Well that was crazy! 😳 Definitely still got some work to do grading the yard, which you’ll see in the next video!
Make sure you’re subscribed to the channel and hit the thumbs up button to show some love! ❤️
I am so happy that all your planning saved your house during the spring thaw. All that planning and work is serving you well. Excellent video! 💜
The YardGeek looks so definitely to continue a strong growth planted and trees during summer. I am glad to see everything good start them. 😊🙌👏❤
I love that dad made an appearance! Turns out you’re not alone all the time
Haha he was happy to have his lawn cut 😄
He's always got Mike around😅😅
@@TheYardGeekI would had gvn Father the lil mower advertised as he has the well groomed yard.
Geekster ,U need a Rider lawn mower and a snowblower get n2 where Bobby and 😮Johnny can't.
(Suggested by Canadian,Dr.Janine Bowring)
Pool salt 2 kill out the weeds and might help the snow melt faster.
I probably pump all that water n2 the sewers.😂
Mitch your work ethic is unmatched and very inspirational. Thank you!
I appreciate that!
Yard Geek and Post10: the crossover collaboration no one saw coming! (One can dream, right?)
Didn’t see this until after I posted damn near the same thing!
Dude, we have to make this happen. Two of my favorite channels.
Hey Mitch,
The yard and the house are coming along. Love the updates. Keep them coming!!!❤😍💯
Thank you! Will do!
Thanks for sharing this, I look forward to seeing what you are going to do about your drainage this summer…so cool, we learn so much from you.
Make a dry dich where the most water collected with dry moats connecting. So that in the future the melt can drain the yard without making the yard a muddy swamp. Maybe even make the complete yard surrounded by a mini berm to protect the smaller plants from erosion. Anyway, great video, can't wait for the next one.
Wow! That scares me to see almost the flood in your yard. It is not ok. I hope all the trees and shrubs are planted to make it stronger to grow when the snow finishes melting. 🙏 Your parents’ dog is excited to see you and is charming. Thank you for the great tip for the Nav Robotic lawnmower. Have a beautiful day and a weekend. 🙌👏👍😊🤟
Thanks Cynthia! I’m confident everything will be ok and that I can alleviate the water a bit going forward! Have a great weekend!
On a positive note now you know what to prepare for, for the future 🪴🌿🌲
Can’t wait to see your yard bloom into a beautiful masterpiece that I know it’s going to be❤
Oh definitely! I’ve got such an epic plan for this yard and I can’t wait to show it to you guys!!
@@TheYardGeek super excited and it’s not even mine! Lol
We had a winter like that in New Brunswick when we lived there, we had three +40 cm blizzards in one week and it went on from there. Then boom, summer overnight and the melt started. We lived in military housing so a lot of the water ran through the basement. At least you are able to fix your water flow problem yourself. The acreage is looking great, fingers crossed for your trees coming back ok.
Crazy! Yes, I should be ok water wise as this has showed me what to prepare for in the future! I’m hopeful all the trees will be ok 🤞🏼
Loved seeing your Dad
You have amazing property!
Thank you!
Not gonna lie, this is making me glad I live in the tropics lol. I've always wanted to experience snow but not like this 🥲
The drone really comes in handy for this channel. I laughed when you said spring melt and then of course more snow. This is a good test to see how much water the eco buffer can take. It really got a lot there. So that was a good test. The neighbors yard is well done, but he could use some elevation. I am SO glad you didn't suffer any damage to your house from all this water. Ok, so back to Dad's house for a minute, am I the only one that noticed the off kilter bird house in the back ground? You would need a small army of those mowers to do your whole acreage. 🤣That cracks me up. Anyway, at least this was a good test run of your work on leveling the yard. Now you know where some grading might help. You look so cool leaning on Jonny at the end, he is definitely one of my favorite purchases of yours. Thanks for doing this Mitch, can't wait to see the next one. Have a great weekend, you deserve some rest. 💜
Yes the drone footage is great! Gives really good perspective for things like this. This was definitely a worst case scenario, and one I would hope doesn’t happen again. But, so long as the water isn’t coming in the house it won’t be a problem since it all drains out and the evaporates away in a week or two. Trees should be ok too I hope! As for my neighbour, his house was built below grade so he has to really be careful during any spring melt, but he’s taking action on improving the drainage in his yard too.
Haha, yeah my mom loves the birds. Wouldn’t that be cool to have like 10 of the navimows working in sequence on my grass?! Hahaha
Anyways, glad you enjoyed this one Joel! See you in the next one!
Hopefully it’s the most water you will ever see as it does get close to the house. It is beautiful seeing it up high. I guess it’s a good reference for you for when you get round to adding more drainage.
I hope so too! It sure was helpful to know though for future!
I'm looking forward to seeing the evolution of your plans.
Glad to hear your house or your neighbor's house didn't flood. With the hundred degree temps Arizona been getting, snow will melt very quickly. Love this video and can't wait to see the next one.
Mitch: Good luck with your yard and water protection, of your house, this Summer.
Look into natural rainwater harvesting and bioswales - good way to make a ground sponge to keep the spring melt watering your plants for a while longer!
It's really great watching you build all of this from scratch. Not sure it feels great doing all the work lol, but seeing someone go from a patch of land to what you've got so far is amazing!!! What a life ♥️
Thank you very much!
First winter melt went pretty well.
Cute mower!!!
Oh wow, I would be so worried with all that snow melt. I love that you grabbed the pump to try and help you clear it out a little bit quicker.
You need to get @post10 to figure out your drainage issues!
I was in Lethbridge last week at my Step Son's acreage. I went from 45*C (113* F) here in Las Vegas to 10*C (50*F) in Lethbridge. I froze LOL. I also got eaten by mosquitos 🥴
Oh I so need that robotic mower. Mowing isn't something I enjoy doing. Thanks for this info Yard Geek! Glad you got the water cleared out. The house is coming along nicely!
You got it! The Navimow is super slick, definitely give it a look!
Please upload more this channel is so good need more content
Every time I've seen subdivisions pop up in what was once farm ground, there are significant drainage issues.
Yup. Developers don’t care about drainage
Wow! That's some serious waterfront property you have. Looking forward to how you solve the problem.
Wow Mitch you have your own island 🏝
So appreciate your hard work with your content! It's awesome! - I watch all the way from Australia. Keep up the good work! :)
Thank you!
This is awesome 👌
It's not a fault of mother nature it's only reason to correct mistakes next spring. Now you have got a valuable experience and this is a big plus.
Hello Mitch, I have been a subscriber since you announced its arrival. Great to see the land coming along. Sure, it's a lot of work now. Think of all the work future you will not have to do. Love the quality of your videos, keep doing what you do!
PS, looking forward to next weeks Detail Geek video. Love the "Mystery Machine" name. That was the first thing I thought of too. Great minds think alike.
Thank you!! ♥️
new subscriber here to your new channel and l have to say it is awesome. Love seeing you transform cars but this is on another level. Greetings from Alison in Northern Ireland
Awesome thank you!
Ao easy mate, just set a pond there… some people wait years to fill theirs, you can make it in a few weeks for the sounds of it
Beautiful cinematography! I love the drone shots! You definitely have a vision like your father 😊
Thank you!
You need marsh plants. That will help with snow melt, but also when you get big rains the rest of the year.
My yard is on a much smaller scale, but I have water-loving plants in areas known to collect water. It helps keep the water away from the foundation and gets rid of it faster.
That was craz from all that snou
Very!
A lot of water I dont understand yet 🤔🤔🤔🤪good lock good video
Did anyone else just find out his name was Mitch this whole time? lol
Keep up the great work Mitch :)
It seems no one thought of drainage before deveoping the sub. French drains work great, but in your case there is no where to drain it to. If one neighbor does something drastic, you all pay. I live in a suburb of Detroit, not far from Lake St Clair, so water flows eastward toward the lake, often in the back yards. I was getting major water from two sides of my yard, so we had a French drain installed 2 years ago, and after two winters and many severe downpours, I am happy to say we no longer get flooding. The pop-up emitter was brought out front and drains down my driveway, oftem peeing for a day after a big downpour. No puddles and I can cut my lawn with the tractor as soon as it al melts. Amazing.
Wow
Thank awesome
Your parents dog is cute 🥰
A suggestion: I would like to see a date range of the videos and projects you do. Its hard to understand and appreciate how long some of these things take.
I wonder if there is a way to create perhaps a reservoir that collects the run off while also providing a place to use if the area starts getting hurt by a dry spell. A man made lake?
We have rain gardens in PNW so I’m wondering if there can be a snow garden of sorts. Plants that wake up super thirsty or evergreens of some variety
Love the new channel!
Awesome, thanks!
This killed me lol 101°F here today and he's talking about spring
Seeing all this snow definitely makes me more tolerant of the summer heat we’re now dealing with.
From Australia 🇦🇺 why not install some rainwater tanks? You can capture rain water as well as the snow melt, too. That way, you can self-contained self-assured environmentally sustainable responsibility framing from Australia 🇦🇺 love program too 🇨🇦❤
You had said you expected some of this, but not this much! The farmland near my home has been sold to developers. I'm worried what will happen with roads and such. There was significant flooding years ago with several feet of water in houses across the highway from me. Good luck. ❤
Honestly I would think that a subdivision with roads would improve drainage as they would have adequate drainage around houses to the street, where they’d likely have storm sewers not? Of course situations can vary so maybe not!
Looks like building on flood plains
No way I’d want to live there with all that snow, glad I moved to Florida 😊
Your Father has a smaller more manageable yard, love that Robot Mower! You shoulda built your house on a higher mound! Is their anything you can do for future spring melts? 🥰
Yes! The Navimow is really cool and great for a yard like his!
Definitely should have set the house higher and brought in more fill dirt, but holy heck would that have cost me a small fortune 😄
Lucky you’ve got the right tools for the job with Johnny & the kitty Cat. Personally I’d build a nice big berm and plant it out to give you privacy & hold out the water when it melts. Lucky you’ve got the footage of the whole flow to see how you can mitigate on your property. Those developers need a good uppercut & you can see where the road towards the end has been affected in the past with the cracks patched with tar, definitely not enough culvert pipes under the driveways to help the water move more efficiently.
Yep exactly. I will absolutely be taking steps to mitigate the water risk. If only the culverts were larger, and placed at the correct depth…
Wow,what a awesome place you have, best wishes for you and your property, you do great work, if I was younger, I would have a crush. Best always to you.
Thank you!
Post 10 collab would be awesome.
Pond or french drains to get rid of the water faster. Especially around the house.
That sure was a lot of water!
My grandfather would stick to a John Deere ride-on lawnmower, just how he likes it.
5:37 this is the perfect place for a Pond
❤❤❤
Might I say that must have been an incredibly high end/expensive hot tub to warrant a crane to remove it. I deal with water all the time I pump water all the time we use 2” centrifugal pumps with Honda engines. Run off is destructive that’s for sure. Culverts should always be as placed as low as possible, it’s the best practice. Interesting and personal view of your land. Perhaps you could use a culvert or perhaps a nyloplast structure with honeycomb steel cover in the low point from the studio side to the open side yourself. A lot of this water looks equalized. We have certain areas that are near sea level in Maine that this issue occurs. Ultimately while it may not have been deemed necessary at first, but catch basins and underground 15-18” underground drain pipes should have probably been installed in places.
They need some kind of retention pond to drain all that water into
I wonder if “unlikely weather event” is the new normal. Also it might be the time to see if the developer had an adequate flood mitigation plan.
Loved this ❤❤ Typical.......it doesn't make a difference, which country your from.....
we'll just subdivide this parcel of land.... and not plan drainage properly 😒 then home-owners are left trying to rectify the problem 🙄
Sooooo looking forward to the next Yard Geek🤓 ❤ from melbourne....Australia 🇦🇺
Lol ain’t that the truth!
Oh jeeez, that was a close call man! 😅
Sure was 😬
Please upload more on this channel
Trying to!
Retention pond or you need to tile your property
Dig a trout pond
Just wondering! Did you put deep the big drain pipes somewhere in the soil from the yard when the snow melted away? Successful job?🤔😊👍👏🙌
I’ve been thinking about what all my options are…whether it’s a retention pond, a more sophisticated spot to pump the water out, or just letting nature do its thing as it doesn’t last long anyways!
Drainage 1/10. Battle to send water to other neighbors lots. LOL
PLUS 22 ?!?!?!?
Stay safe
Much more of the Wiener please!
Is Sasky very rural??
This land kind of seems like a bad area to build because it’s prone to flooding and water sitting there
7:48 omg, where are the tree's? Canadians also cuts everything on their way ? :(
Trees can be scarce on the Canadian prairies. That’s why so many are planted by hand.
Too bad that water can’t be scooped up for future use with forest fires.🇨🇦❤️
Wouldn’t a lake front increase the property value?
Just trying to think of the positives 🤷🏽♀️
Built in pool!
@@TheYardGeek that’s why you get paid the big bucks
From someone with absolutely NO experience in this subject . . . why not create a 'water feature' {aka: pond} on a section of your property and divert all the run-off water there as it appears that sending it away from your property is not all that efficient
That would definitely be an option, however the soil is so well drained out here that once the ground isn’t frozen it slurps it all away very quickly. It’s really only an issue for the couple weeks of spring melt!
💣🔥💥💦👟✔🤓 livin n a potential flood zone myself I 4got 2 mention another idea the city dug like 4 wells so far deep... so the water runoff n2 those wells.🔥
Pretty shoddy developer who sold you this acreage. Here in Australia, if a developer sold acreage he/she would have to put major drainage in place befroe he/she would get permits to sell.
Instead of worrying about the water in the front yard turn it into a Koi Pond and say you had it planned the whole time. Lol.
I like the way you think 😄
@@TheYardGeekI'm glad someone does. 😊
what is the essence of having huge lands by everyone in ur community but cant create a proper drainage system
sadly this is what happens when farmland gets developed without much thought to drainage. Hopefully you won't have crazy melts like this often
Yup, plus developers like to skimp out so of course all they did was put a road and some culverts in and called it a day…only they did a crap job of that too. There would still need to be quite a bit more water for it to have caused problems, and I’m going to make sure I landscape in such a way that my basement windows are protected. Should be ok!
Pff. This is why I can't live ANYWHERE up north. I'm not dealing with all that
Excited to come here and see some yard work video ended up watching only drone shots of the snow disappointed 😑
It's winter in this episode, I am sure the yard clean up will continue. Good to see the grading work well though.
You know it’s ok to keep your opinion to yourself sometimes. It’s literally just ONE video The “work” will continue in the next one.
@@TheYardGeek 👀.....
It's a process, and this is one step. I like seeing the work, too, but also like the information.
That fake music is horrible.
You want your audience to watch in video promotions and ads. Get outta here with that nonsense. I’m happy to support this type of content but that’s too much.
So what? Do i lokk like i care? Sorry pal, that's the way of life, sometimes it sux, live with it.
Huh?
👍👍👍👍👍🫵🪨 it looks like you good use all that water to build a pool.
Lol I sure could. Polar bear swim anyone? 😄
