    Thank you soo much for this video. I am new and only sold 2 so far to my mom and only have 1 lusting I did as I followed your tutorial and I realized since my mom bought sizes 3x that I actually would loose money plus I was offering free shipping . I saw all the click bait prices and thought I was pricing to high. I have been watching all your videos and have a notebook full of your tips I have been writing down. I didn’t think I could do this at first because I’m not good with computers and didn’t feel like I was creative enough. Thank you so much for all your videos I’m very new and still learning 😊

    Thanks so much for this video! I needed this. Can you do a video on the sales part of things? Like how the money flow works from the time someone orders to where you get your profit and factor in taxes, fees, etc.

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'll make a video on this real soon for sure! Here's some info though for you for right now
      When you first start on Etsy, they put your account "on reserves" to make sure you are a legit seller for the first 90 days. So they keep a portion of your sales until the item ships. They also will only pay you once per week at this point. After 90 days, they will let you take daily payments instead.
      When you get an order, Etsy takes out the etsy fees and then gives you the difference. Printify then charges YOUR CARD for the cost of the item and shipping, and you get to keep the difference.
      So you either need a credit card, that way you have time to get the payments from Etsy before having to pay the bill, or you need to start with a few hundred dollars. Because there are a few different things to buy to start like a few nice mockups and design software to make the designs.
      Then at the end of the year, you just pay taxes on the profit that you made after all expenses. I would set aside about 30% of your profit per month for taxes!

    Can you do a video about managing your listings? When should we renew them or get rid of it? How many listings per design should I do? How many listings should I have in my shop?

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I let my items renew 2-3 times without selling before I change them to manual renewal so they will just expire at the end of that 4 months. As for how many listings per design, I normally do 2-3 for sweatshirts, 2-3 for t-shirts and then if it makes sense, a mug and a tote bag.
      As for how many listings in your shop, this is kind of a never ending quest to find as many best sellers as you can. The most I've had in my shop is 4k listings! So I'd say just as many as you can lol You constantly have to be finding new trends, new niches and new design styles to stay up to date on what's selling right now.

    I love your videos! ❤ Thank you for sharing all your amazing tips and helpful advice! You've really helped me a lot so far, but I'm still having difficulty with pricing some of my items. I'm in Canada, so please bear with me as I try to explain my dilemma. As an example, I'll use the Gilden sweatshirt. They are currently approx. $16 US each. Convert that to Canada and they are $20. Add to that the tax (I'm purchasing from a Canadian provider - Duplium so they charge 13%), and that comes to $22.60. Add to that their shipping charge $13.06 (again, convertered to Canadian - as all of Printify's currency, no matter where the location of the printer is in US $. Add to that Canadian government sales tax 13% = $40.22. Add to that Etsy's fees = (6.5% + 3.5%) = $46.33. Plus - we can't forget my markup - - I'd LIKE to make $25 per shirt, but that would put my sweatshirt at approximately $71.00. Oh, and I still need to add another 13% to the customer to pay for my own taxes. So that sweatshirt is now $80. Of course, I could lower my profit to a measley $10.00 and sell my shirt for $65. But the price for the Gilden sweatshirt is still awfully high. So, I just don't understand how so many shops out there are able to sell their sweatshirts for so little. Maybe they didn't factor in all the hidden costs and are essentially "losing their shirt" over it!! LOL! (I couldn't resist)! But...do you see where I'm coming from?? It's a big struggle to come up with a price, and as much as I would like to think that my designs are worth me asking for $25 profit for me, I don't know...who in their right mind would pay $80 for a sweatshirt?? Do you have any advice - am I missing something here? 🤔

      Hey Charlene, I’m in a similar boat to you except I’m in Australia and using Duplium coz Aussie printers don’t rate so well. From my calculations I have to price coffee mugs at $40 or cad$36.00. The average price here in Oz is up to $28. Somethings gotta be wrong somewhere.

      @@ForTheGreys Yep, you can. Not sure where you're selling from (Etsy)? But ya, as a Canadian, you can use the American Printers. But it's not going to be profitable if you're selling to Canadians. Because a Canadian would then have to pay the difference of the dollar (exchange rate), plus the shipping/duty. But if you're a Canadian Seller, and you want to target American buyers, by all means, use the American Printers.

      if you're going to work on your etsy listing right after publishing it's fine to publish without hiding - but if you won't get to it for 3+ hours or until the next day, hide from store so it goes to your drafts instead of automatically publishing - "You want to click “Hide in Store to make sure your new product won’t automatically publish to your Etsy storefront - instead, it will be waiting for you to finesse the Etsy listing a bit in your Listing Drafts folder"

      I do the title, description and price on Printify and then just publish to visible on Etsy. Then I just right then go change the mockups and add the tags. If you can't get to this point until later, then you could change it to not visible if you wanted. Best of luck!

I have learned so much from you, but I am a little confused about the profit margin when people give discounts on t-shirts. I noticed the majority of sellers add a sale in their listings. Your videos I watched didn't mention what to do if a sale is added on and how we fill out the calculator when that is done? Do we up the profit margin or up the price. Hi Cassiy - your videos are amazing! One question: what is your profit margin, in general? For example, you say you made $500,000 in gross sales in one video - but how much of that is profit? I need to know this to decide if I can do this full time or not. Thank you!

    • @SWEETUMS101
      @SWEETUMS101 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, not sure if you got your answer already, but I’ve been watching several videos (the interviews) and I believe the profit you get is 1/3 the gross, with the other money going to Etsy, the printing partner and the cost of maintaining all the software. So if someone made $100,000 in “sales”, their actual take home pay is $30k. Hope this helps. 💕

    Cassidy, again great video, and I love that you mentioned state sales tax, but you keep failing to mention federal taxes, which start out around 12%. A sweatshirt starting at $32.99, and after calculating federal taxes of 12%, your profit decreases by another $4 more dollars before any type of product sale. Let's be more transparent as an additional $4 is almost a 50% decrease from what your reporting as profit.

      In one of her videos she mentioned she adds the shipping to the product cost & list it as free shipping. This method boosts her listings further up the page & helps it get found when customers select free shipping in the filters.

I know this video was from 2022 so things may have changed. but WHY does etsy charge 6.5% of the item price, then an additional 6.5% of the shipping label, then a 3% processing fee plus $0.25. It seems like it's better to just purchase shipping directly from USPS (the rates are exactly the same even though etsy makes it sound like you get a special price through them). Crazy?

      Yes they do a great print but they are more expensive and have less colors to choose from. I have had great experiences with Monster Digital and Swift Pod and the price difference is really drastic when you multiply it by 1000's of orders. But they are great quality for sure!

    If Printify
    prices are around $15 for a t-shirt and around $5 for shipping, how are other sellers pricing their t-shirt for XL $14? They are not making any profit, right? I'm confused.

    • @pat4005
      @pat4005 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you read about many of these other sellers on their Etsy page info about their shop, sometimes you can figure out if they are also actually printing their own shirts, etc.
      I have come across this when I looked deeper into some very successful Etsy shops.
      A few have YT channels, and don't make it very clear that they print their own shirts.
      They may say something just once in a video (when talking about how much they have sold in dollars or made in profit), and they may slip and say something about their "team", or their "facility" or even "warehouse".
      Sometimes if you can find their Etsy shop, you can read the info about how they started their shop and they may mention later in the info that their "team" uses a particular way of printing (such a Direct-To-Garment), or some other printing method and they mean that THEY DO THE SHIRT PRINTING IN THEIR OWN SHOP.
      THEY NOT USE A POD.
      So they will be able to sell at a lower price on Etsy because they control the whole process and buy their shirts, printing supplies and shipping supplies wholesale and can be then much more competitive on Etsy compared to sellers using POD to fulfill their orders.

    Thank you. I have purchased the spreadsheet. A very valuable tool! Well worth the investment and a "software" tax write off. Just one thing that needs clarification please. You mentioned that you like to test your pricing based on size XL, but when demonstrating the spreadsheet, you mentioned that you price all shirt options based "on the most expensive of the variants that I choose" which suggest that you calculate based on 5XL instead? Can you clarify this?

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I meant the most expensive of the three variants in size XL. I price Small - XL the same and then raise my prices by $1-$2 more per size above that.

      I mainly just use them for the search function within the chrome extension to see how many searches different search terms get per month.
      I actually just ordered samples for a YT video to show the difference between white, a doubled up design and the three recommend off whites. So I'll post a video about that once I get the samples in. Here are the three off-whites that Printify recommended using #FCFCFC; #FEFEFB and #F5F5F5

    Hi Cassie! Thanks so much for the amazing video. I was just wondering how shipping costs on individual etsy items works? For example, if you set the shipping cost as $8, does Etsy provide you with this money on top of the item's cost (minus etsy fees), and therefore the total profit increases by $8? Thanks so much!

    You mention doing Esty full-time. I would love to know how many hours a week you work. And what if you want to take a month off, what happens then or is that even possible? What if you travel somewhere where there is no internet connection?

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So in the beginning I probably worked 20-25 hours per week on my business, now 2 years in I spend anywhere from 20 minutes - 1.5 hours per day handling customer service or custom orders. I have done almost no new listings this year because I already have a catalog of products available for the whole year. If you wanted to take time off, you would just need to hire someone to do your customer service for you! I know people who have outsourced this to people from the Philippines and had a great experience. But I believe they did it where the person would remote into a computer at their house.
      Whenever I go on vacay, I just do the 20 minutes of work per day in the morning or night. While not ideal, it's really not so bad but I've also never gone anywhere without wifi for vacation.
