So many people complain about newer updates feeling empty and pointless... But I feel that is a huge disservice to all the builders out there who use Minecraft as a canvas for their stunning works of art. People undervalue just how impactful the blocks and textures of this game are. People need to stop undervaluing art. Its AMAZING all the things builders like Gem and the other Hermits are able to accomplish in this game, and with each new update Mojang adds so much more potential to work with!
i absolutely agree about the insane builds people could make!! but i would say its hard not to complain as a more casual player. sure, more block are always fun and really useful for builders, but i dont really make giant elaborate builds. most of the updates just dont really add much to the game that adds to the experience 🤷♀️
legit!! i was suprised when people didn't like the cherry blossom update because not only were there updates for blocks, there was a new biome, new flowers, archaeologist stuff like what?!, sniffers, etc. i love minecraft so much 🩷
@@zxoe Yeah despite getting popular fan requests such as cherry trees and armor customization, for some reason people were underwhelmed by it. Archaeology could have been executed better but it wasn't _that_ bad. :/

7:23 That’s also how i got into Minecraft!!! I was playing pocket edition on my old iPad in like 2015 in creative mode just building away, even though the builds on that world were pretty horrific, that is what got me hooked on Minecraft too!
Same, I got the PC version a few days before 1.8
I started on pocket edition and based on version histories it must have been early 2012. I still remember my first death being to a zombie attacking me from behind while i tried to make a dirt hut, and i assumed it was a sheep. (It was my very first Minecraft experience so i had no idea what a "mob" was in the game's description, and sheep looked kinda suspicious)
My first big upgrade was to xbox360 version, and that was so much better at the time.
It wasn't until college that i had a laptop good enough to run the game, and even then it would get really hot. So i preferred the console version and playing with my brother on that.
Unfortunately my builds have not gotten better since then. Well they are less horrible but still not good and take a lot of work. I'm a redstoner so i use that as an excuse, technically farms are just easier than making pretty art.
I started on Pocket Edition, too! I still use that version to this day, and my builds have significantly improved ever since.
Yess that’s the same with me only I diddent get a computer my dad bought us an Xbox in Covid instead and now I have a computer but we can’t pay for both

Yes!! i can't imagine all the adventures the characters would get up to in a world filled with so much magic; the dragons, castles, sea monsters, fortresses, villages, forests, mountains, oceans!! so cool how gem connected them into one

why am I crying at the end , it's just a minecraft world , but the history and the details remind me of my own minecraft journey , I also started on pocket edition and continued to pc after , i still remember my first cobblestone box house in my first survival world , my first rustic house following grian's tutorials , first time seeing a mumbo jumbo tutorial , watching my first hermitcraft season 4 episode through mumbo , i even remember recreating the hermitron go, i remember senior bumbo cactoni . my friends i met through this game , thank you gem for being an amazing creator , happy 15th anniversary

I love the cohesiveness of this world in the end - even though the individual areas were so different to start out, you can really tell that they come from the same artist as there are design choices and proportions that carry over from world to world, tying everything together in a really satisfying way.
Can’t believe Minecraft is 15 years old…it feels like just yesterday when it was released, but it also feels like so long ago. I think Minecraft has changed the lives of a lot of people, and it totally deserves all the attention it’s gotten over these 15 years. Plus, seeing some of your older builds is so cool! It seems like your building style changed a lot over the years, and it’s so cool to see some of your builds side by side!
Kinda sad we couldn't see some other really iconic builds from iconic series like Empires S1/S2 or Hermitcraft S8

It´s really funny to think about how I´m 17 now, but have been playing the game the same amount of time as gem. Never would of thought I would play it till now back than. It´s so lovely to hear other people talk about this game that has molded such a huge part of my and other peoples childhoods, Minecraft truly is a game with the most loving and united community. Thank you Gem for this amazing video and some throwbacks into the past!!!!
I started crying during the end when you showed the whole world. Minecraft has helped me get through so many things. It might sound stupid but as someone with disabilities it’s just a happy way to escape the real world for a while. I love every thing that you do gem. Thank you.

Can't believe Minecraft is already 15 years old! Sadly my oldest worlds from 2012 are lost in time on a corrupted laptop, but my oldest living world is from 2013 and its full of pixel art, a hotel, a swimming hall, a hunger games arena and even some old tutorial houses from your fellow hermit, Keralis! Thank you Gem for this trip down memory lane!

It's interesting how seeing someone else go down their own personal memory lane can make you go down one of your own, too. Going through this video got me thinking about a bunch of stuff I've done in the game throughout the years.

This was so nostalgic! You were the first mc channel I discovered and stayed with all these years- I used to just run around in mc, not really sure what to do but knowing the game had potential. Your videos helped me realise what can be achieved in this game!
So long, so many updates, sometimes it's just fun to remember the old versions, playing in them, remembering how limited our resources were.
I remember when they added Andesite, Granite, Diorite, and Red Sand; and the joy it brought to me knowing my stone builds were gunna be affected greatly.
Then came striped logs and I felt that Joy again for my wood based builds.
See more updates adding more stuff always brings joy, especially when we get new stones and woods and features revolving them.

It's honestly so fine to see how far you grew - seeing the progress, hearing your stories and thoughts plus getting to see you you mix your older work with newer ones. Honestly obsessed with the fantasy look!

I'm almost as old as minecraft at 14, I do have 1 build that is almost 8 years old now. It's my oldest build. It was a floating island about 20 blocks long held down by a ton of vines. (Glowberries unfortunately didn't exist).

honestly the little Dredge boat is PERFECT, it doesn't feel out of place at all and watching you play Dredge on stream helped solidify that for me!
My world/build comes from Aug 13th 2013, I still have my first world back from when you could only have 5 on your computer. Once in a while I hop in and place a block but not often.
That world came from a friend that we have since drifted apart and was introduced to me by her kid brother in elementary school at the time who is now all grown up.

This is the 'Bush Gardens' of Minecraft. I can't believe you were able to connect so many worlds together in such a way that it feels like one massive world, similar to how real life theme parts flow from one area to the next. Great work Gem, and happy MC 15th anniversary!!!

My brother introduced me to Minecraft when it was very new. It's amazing how far it has come! Gem, thank you for being an artistic inspiration for so many people.
All the builds blended together is epic. Funny how your Dwarven neighbor is now really hiding under your mega base, but I think you forgot all the beacons LOL. Really love reseeing some of your journey and getting to see things I haven't seen. Might have to squeeze in time to go look at things at the bottom of the play list.
This really is a great idea. Would love to see more Minecrafters doing something like this. Just imagine a world of nearly all creations of someone connected together telling a story. Could be so awesome

All the individual builds you picked were already really cool, and the finished product was wild with all the colors and styles mixed together- great job!
I also started with pocket edition, then wiiU, then got java a few years ago. I think my very first memory of Minecraft was way back when pocket edition first came out in 2011, so either in beta or 1.0, which I didn't even realize until just now! Wow, I guess I'm kind of a veteran.
It's so cool seeing how much you and all the other Minecraft creators I watch have improved over the years, and how much this silly block game means to so many people. Here's to another 15 years of GeminiSlay
