- This is the 4th song by Zez Confrey that I have played. He composed over one hundred pieces and is considered the inventor of the "novelty rag." He arranged and performed a lot for the player piano and his harmonies were influenced by French Impressionist composers, which he combined with the syncopations of ragtime.
My favorite section of this piece is the last one. You can tell me what your favorite part is if you want to.

1:02 Deedle-eet-bup-buh-bup-buuh deedle-eet-bup-buh-bup-buuh deedle-e-deedle-e-deedle-e-eet!! Or something along that line. Hahaha! This old drummer can’t keep up with what the rhythm os or what the notes are through all of those trills and runs! You did a fabulous job on this piece, Leander! All of the ragtime pieces are busy with a lot of notes in fast succession, and you have played them all incredibly well. I am most impressed, and I love to listen as you hit all of those fast notes, and I love to watch your smile spread across your face!!!
I listened a few times to try to pick a favorite part and decided I just like the whole thing. Very unique sound to this one. I do like the trills, as well. Thank you, Leander!
This was Confreys first novelty composition but it wasn’t the first overall. The very first was Felix Andts “Nola”, a beautiful pieces Imm sure you would enjoy. I do love this piece too. Wonderful performance. I did struggle with the introduction to this one
@@dylan-kerry I will listen to Nola
@ It’s a great piece. Very fun to play once one gets the hang of it too
That sure was fun to listen to! 👏
Leander is well set to become a TH-cam legend.
That would really be something!
always make my day.....always cheery tunes...thanks
Hey, Leander! I absolutely LOVE this! What a great little melody ... and how well you play it! I hope you can have a career in music, young man. You really deserve it! I shall pray this happens for you.
he is sooo good - DON'T STOP....
Este menino aprende uma peça por dia, e ainda decora. Toca de memória.
That's neat. Thank you for broadening my musical horizon.
You did a great job at capturing the piece’s frolicky energy! Bravo!
Fantastic description!!
@ Lol thanks XD
Amazing.
Delightful playing Leander!

@@r2x262 I like to read your comments
I am all in for rags. I liked it as a whole and had to think of some cat and dog puppies I've had, playing together, chase each other and having fun..
Thanks Leander.
Mr.LEANDER.....My favorite part is??? The entire piece 😂
Way to go!!!
Well played Leander!
Loved it all. At times your hands looked like a kitten 🐈⬛ dancing on the keys😄.
I was wondering just what kind of pet Zez Confrey was thinking of when he composed this, and perhaps you have identified it - a kitten! Either that or perhaps a monkey scampering around.
I found a record of Confrey playing this piece aided by a drummer tapping a crash cymbal -- It's intriguing to hear a accomp. shaping a piano score -- But you don't need any help ! -- You Keep Playing And We'll Keep Enjoying, Sweetheart ❤
@@jaygee999 I will try to listen to that version
He makes those long stride patterns while smiling into the camera! I am filled with envy.
Dear Learnder, this masterpiece is delightful each and every upload delivers a smorgasbord to delight the ears 👂 an 👀 eyes but my mind sometimes does not believe what im hearing and seeing, You are not A,I. Generated are you ?Only kidding ! Even A.I could not equal Learnder Continued success and more power to you master Learnder 💙👍
Mr. Leander, you always hit the right note. Thanks for this musical visit! What’s interesting according to some biographical notes, Confrey enlisted in the navy during the First World War. He performed musical reviews for the sailors along with a struggling violinist, Ben K. Benny, who would later become comedian Jack Benny.
That’s even more interesting! Thanks for sharing that information.
You are very talented.
Leander that was so much fun, you are making so many people very happy. These moments are very special thank you for sharing your talent with the world…enjoy your journey👏👏👏👏👏
Dear Leander, When I listen to you I smile!!!! Thank you for letting us hear and see your incredible videos!!!

He also makes it look easy
Leander, your 'slide-stride' work is astounding! Bravo!
I heard that song a few times at events but never knew the name. Thanks pal!
Bravo! Thank you, Leander! My favorite part is seeing you enjoying yourself as you play (and the trills!)
Yay. I loved it. Sounded like a track from Tom and Jerry 😊
Well, there you go again making everybody's day! Nice job buddy.😂❤
This brought the perfect start to my day! Greetings from Ireland you absolute legend!
@@equinoxstudio8205 Someday I want to go to Ireland.
I am glad you can listen to this song in Ireland.
Wow ! I was born in 1918.
Really ?
Leander, you bring to ragtime something that wasn't there before. your fingering is wicked, your tempo exhilarating and your understanding of the structure of the piece impressive and on point. It wouldn't surprise me you will be writing your own rag in the very near future. Meanwhile thank you for making my day.
@@danieloreilly881 Someday I will try to compose songs
You never cease to amaze me with your fantastic memory! You rank among very few who can pick up and play pieces so quickly. Of those I have seen and heard in my almost 80 years, none outwardly exhibit the enthusiasm or the radiant smile like yours. I pray that you lose either one as you grow. I hope I’m here long enough to follow your progress. ❤❤❤❤
I think you meant
I don’t know how you do it - but I’m sure glad that you do!
You light up any day with your happy music and smiles.
Thank you!
@@richardthacker You're welcome
Thank you for encouraging me and telling me that you liked it.
That was so much fun! I mean for me to listen and watch, and for you to play! Was that a cat or a dog jumping on the keys? Wasn't a turtle, that's for sure! Thanks, Leander, for making all of us smile and tap our toes! 🤗 Jerry
You are showing me so my great pieces I've never heard! This one is so entertaining! 👍🎶
@@KenFranklin-yz3yy I am happy that you are hearing new songs because of my videos
Awesome job!! I love how you don’t even miss a beat or hit a wrong key when you smile up at the camera! Your fingers are so limber, you must practice a lot! Keep up the good work! 🎹 😊
@@ChristinewithaC I will keep working hard to try to get even better.
@Leander-piano Don't forget to have fun as a kid too!
No way, someone fixed the D key! Hallelujah!
That was a fun 'listen' Leander. I do hope you got as much enjoyment out if it as us here in YoubeeToobeeLand do too.
Leander, I want to ask you a question, and if you don't answer, its ok. But how many times do you listen to a song to play it? About how long do you practice? You're ability to fly through piece after piece absolutely amazes me!
Such fun! Hmm. My cat never sounded THAT good walking on the keyboard🤔
You should listen to Kitten on the Keys and see if that reminds you of your cat.
very funny! thanks
Another fine performance! Keep it up, young man!! And, first thing I noticed was your lower D. Hurray!! 🙂
Leander you would have been brilliant playing for Silent movies lol 😅😅😅
Leander, I see your piano key is fixed finally! :)
I just wonder how you are able to memorize all those songs.. you are really doing an amazing job
*#LeanderMyLoveBoy!🎉😅
I ALWAYS feel better watching YOU! (Who fixed your piano - - - - one key was down earlier)
Timing and rhythm Lea.
It seems you want to get it over with.
I will keep practicing and work on that
Hi Leander!
I think many viewers (including me) would be interested to hear about your teacher(s) and how they teach you to play the piano. Do you practice music theory, like learning to read sheet music? How long have you been training?
That would be very kind of you to share!
Check your spelling.
@@rogerg4916 Thanks a lot!!! Excuse my French....how convenient, I'm French!I didn't read my words again , oops! Thank you!
That is the craziest piece I've ever heard! You were brave to tackle that one!
Hey ... did you get the broken piano key repaired?
Yes one of my subscribers named Jeremy Borum came and fixed it for me
@@Leander-piano Great! Thank you Jeremy Borum!
Have you gone to your local cabletv channel to put him on the tv
Did you get your piano fixed?
One of my subscribers named Jeremy Borum fixed it for me and showed me how a piano works inside
@@Leander-piano I'm learning to tune and repair pianos and it very interesting. Did Jeremy tell you that you have what is called a spinet piano? They were very popular in the mid 20th century.
I post ragtime too for any interested!
I will look at your channel
@@Leander-pianoAwesome thanks keep up the great work Leander!
well done another great piece and hooray the key is fixed keep it up
Do you ever play stuff by Queen?
Dude, what about Erik Satie - Gymnopédie No.1?
