A piano that even ragtime sounds bad on (Read description)

- This is an unrestored player piano, in a queue
to be restored. To my knowledge it has been in this spot for about 8 years but apparently has gone without a tuning for longer. You can hear the dissonance between the octaves and chords, then you get to hear the Maple Leaf Rag. Enjoy!
Edit: Ive decided to give the owner of this piano some credit. He is a piano teacher, and a restorer of automatic musical intruments. (player pianos, organs ect.) Check out his channel!

Nah the ragtime doesn't sound bad, it's just spooky ragtime now
This is the type of ragtime you'd hear while being chased by a haunted piano through a spooky mansion
why do i want to add that to a game
@@michaelbrickieblockI can see it now:
The ghosts have top hats and fancy coats. They're chasing you in a funeral carriage.
While the gameplay itself is at a reasonable speed, all the animations are sped up to make it look like the way they'd fast-forward footage for quick action sequences. The whole thing is in monochrome, no sfx, with the decorated border and effects like an old reel going on.
Every now and then they'll telegraph an attack by doing a silent talking animation, and a few seconds later it'll cut to a separate screen for the caption, then they spin around a cane and try to wrangle you up, or use the horse whip, or just start going faster to give you less space to work with for awhile.
Meanwhile there are ghastly onlookers in the background, floating in front of the bar drinking their boos and spirits, there's some old lady ghost feeding the crows before getting robbed by the most stereotypical conniving crook ever, some young poltergeist accidentally breaking a cremation urn with their slingshot and getting chased down by their parents, the whole nine.

Despite being out of tune, everything sounds somewhat _right._ A testament to confidence, “the show must go on.”
Very poetic
If everything’s out if tune then nothing’s out of place
And to that piano’s construction to hold up to ragtime after so long
@Bob-bt4vw the piano isn't just out of tune, the different keys are out of tune to varying degrees. You can hear that when he plays octaves, the higher octave is much flatter than the lower one. So everything kind of does sound out of place.
@willmorris8198 Unfortunately I have to agree
I can’t imagine there were many traveling piano repair guys back in the days of the old west. This is probably a glimpse into what saloon player pianos could have sounded like at their worst.
The pianists were probably responsible for a lot of the upkeep themselves.
piano in b flat
brilliant!
surprisingly inventive!
…flatter than a piece of paper!
I hate the idea of a piano in Bb, especially because I'm seeing it right now.
Transposing piano
the neat thing about this is, the longer it goes on the more our ears entrain to the odd tuning and the more natural it sounds
It’s freaky and probably why kids shouldn’t grow up playing out of tune old uprights but I loved it every minute and still do.
Musicians who get sent to hell have to listen to this piano for the rest of eternity. If you listen carefully in the video, you can actually hear some of their agonized screaming.
No, I thought that was the piano screaming. 😬😬
I’d just descend into insanity until I start jamming out to it 😂
i'd enjoy it 🫶 i'm made for hell tbh 😭
It's only "hell" and "screaming" if you're a small minded musician. Usually those who are classically trained, but occasionally conservative minded jazz musicians.
Edit: that wasn’t meant to be an insult to anyone, I’m just saying that microtonal tuning presents a wonderful world of musical possibilities, but you must be open minded enough to embrace it initially
Lots of time in the after life. Would try remap the scale. End up with a kind of shuffled piano

You’re running up a spiral staircase, and every time your toe touches the next stair, it tilts, spins, or drops suddenly, jerking you off balance. As your free leg flails wildly, it finds purchase on another stair that wasn’t there before, and you stumble forward, running up and around. The stairs trip you and catch you like a juggling ball. I think I have PLAYED that piano! 55 YEARS ago in Ft. Lauderdale I had a gig for a week at a dime-a-dance club. Retirees in their 80s and 90s danced to solo piano, play for exactly three minutes. Every time you'd press the sustain pedal, it would remain down, you had to go UNDER the piano to reset it! It's a BIG reason I switched to Hammond Organ...
Maybe! The sustain works fine, but it may have been fixed since then.
those high notes are really great for causing as much pain as possible to whoever's listening
This would be the perfect accompaniment for a chase scene through a night-time circus in some kind of horror movie.
