Amy Beach was an amazing American composer. She was able to sing forty songs accurately when she was only one year old, capable of improvising counter-melody by age two, and she taught herself to read at age three. At age four, she composed three waltzes for piano during one summer at her grandfather's farm in West Henniker, New Hampshire, despite the absence of a piano. Instead, she composed the pieces mentally and played them when she returned home. "Fireflies" is the fourth part of her "Four Sketches." For each section she used a line from a work of literature to describe the emotions of the piece. For Fireflies, she used a line from Lamartine: "To be born with spring, to die with roses."
Leander, I know you won't let this comment go to your head, but we mere mortals are in awe of your talent and your knowledge of great musicians before you. May your smile always keep you grounded. Thank you for sharing Amy Beach with us and this great performance of her composition.

Thank you, that is a really nice thing to say to me. I think i have to learn a lot before I can play in a concert hall but I am happy that you are encouraging me
That sounds like a very complex piece, Leander, but you did an amazing job with it. I also noticed that the D a couple of octaves below middle C on your piano is no longer stuck in the depressed position, and your piano sounds great in the last couple of videos, so I’m guessing you’ve had a visit from a piano technician?
This appeared in my recommended as Amy Beach is my favorite composer. Her compositions are extremely rewarding to listen to and learn, and I'm thrilled to see someone so young playing one of her most difficult pieces!
Leander, wonderful job on this song. I'm so glad that you friend came to fix the piano. You're improving and I can't wait for your next one. I think you should have a contest to guess what state you call home! You know I'm in oregon and you came through it once. I hope I live long enough to see you at a concert.
Can you please get a close-up camera that shows your hands on the keyboard? I want to see if there really is smoke coming off your fingers when you're playing the fast bits. You're amazing and incredible ‼ The way you learn new pieces so quickly is astonishing 🤷♂🤯
Definitely one of your best! Awesome job, Leander! Btw, for your Holiday series (if you plan on doing one,) here are a couple suggestions: 1.) Silver Sleigh Bells by E T Paull (1906) 2.) Goodbye Summer, So Long Fall, Hello Wintertime, by Jack Mahoney and Percy Wenrich (1913)
This is amazing! Sounds like Amy Beach was amazing too. Thanks for the history facts about songs! Thanks for your music. This piece does not sound easy to play and you play it so well!
