Mississippi Brown Eyes - David Thomas Roberts (1989) Terra Verde rag
David Thomas Roberts is an American modern ragtime composer. He coined the term "Terra Verde" to describe this relatively new style of syncopated piano music, which can't be considered as traditional ragtime, but is strongly rooted in it. He is a prolific composer and his songs are very beautiful and complex. I am sure other people have played this song but as far as I can tell, this will be the only video on TH-cam of this song besides a video of David Thomas Roberts himself performing it. He plays it much better than I do. I want to play it as relaxed as he does.

Mocking Bird Rag - Charley Straight (1912)
มุมมอง 4.6K9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
In this rag you can hear themes from the popular mid-19th century song "Listen to the Mockingbird," which tells the story of a singer dreaming of his sweetheart, who is sadly dead and buried, and a mockingbird whose song the couple once enjoyed, now singing over her grave. Charley Straight was sometimes called "The Paderewski of ragtime". He lived his entire life in Chicago, Illinois. My subscr...
The Barn Owl Has Not Flown Away - Leoš Janáček (1900)
มุมมอง 4.4K14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
This interesting piece is from Czech composer Leoš Janáček's cycle of 15 piano pieces, called On an Overgrown Path, composed between 1900-1911. In order to understand the title of the song, we must realize that it is an old European superstition that it is bad luck if a barn owl lands on your house and doesn't leave. In that sense it is a sad song, but the way it feels mysterious makes me smile...

Two Different Hummingbird Songs - Amy Beach and William Gillock

Because I recently saw four hummingbirds drinking out of my hummingbird feeder at the same time because there are four places for them to drink, today I wanted to play these two short songs about hummingbirds. I am so happy that I am at my home so I decided to play this song called The Old Home Rag by Joseph Lamb. He probably wrote it many years earlier than 1959 but during the 1950s he reworked and published many rags that he wrote long before and this is one of them. In the final part of the song you can hear the tune from the 1823 song "Home! Sweet Home!" (Be it ever so humble, there's no place li...

This rare and beautiful rag is the only Scott Joplin song that was not printed while he was alive. It was one of the most popular Russian songs of the Romantic era, composed by the founder of the Russian nationalist school, Mikhail Glinka. Leander and parents, Here is the reply from DTR: Thanks, Rob. Your role as conduit leaves me comfortable, as it spares me the prospect of entanglement in the comment section, which quickly shows itself to be an abrasive and potentially time-eating affair, as is so often the case with TH-cam. Leander is in pressing need of a teacher to get him on a better technical path, not only for aesthetic purposes but to save his wrists and hands from the wrecking habits so evident to serious pianists and pedagogs. Other good friends who started like Leander are Adam Swanson and the master of technique: Frederick Hodges.

Music became their passion, and they went on to have a band. In the 1920s, they played all over Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma,Tennessee and many southern states.
