    Hi, I'm Chris! Welcome to my channel. I react to movies & tv shows hoping to represent what it's really like to experience them for the first time. If you enjoy, you can support me by liking the video, subscribing to the channel, and letting me know your thoughts in the comments.
    If I made a list of 1000 possibilities last week's ending could have meant this would not have been on there. I was taught totally off guard and I didn't expect to see The Doctor dealing with the issues this week brought to the surface. It also should be noted Donna is the absolute best.

    0:22 Apart from this one off, in classic Who the Time Lords had the power to intecept the Tardis / summon the Doctor. They used it from time to time to send him on dangerous missions - sometimes by effectively blackmailing him. Of course, since they were wiped out at the end of the Time War, it's no longer a problem.

    • @Bartlebycs
      @Bartlebycs 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Several beings did intercept the Tardis, but mostly because the Doctor really didn't know how to steer it properly in the old days. The Great Intelligence was one. The Celestial Toymaker (played by the late great Michael Gough, aka Batman's butler in the Burtonverse) was another. Marco Polo's group actually took the Tardis "hostage" in a sense, carrying it with them on their caravan. Of course, we don't get to see that because it's one of the stories the BBC erased back in the great purge.
      The Daleks like to pretend they can intercept it, but that's only if the Doctor lets them to lower their guard. Don't tell them, though, we don't want to ruin their self-esteem.
      The Master.... eehh, he *could*, but chooses not to. Too easy. He's the kind of bad guy that likes to overcomplicate his evil plan.

    Because you complimented the performance by the actor who played Cobb, I want to plug two of his movies. Although Nigel Terry spent most of his career on stage, he made his film debut in one of the greatest acting master classes ever made: _The Lion in Winter_ (1968). It was also the film debut of future Hannibal Lecter Anthony Hopkins and future James Bond Timothy Dalton. The headliners were fierce Peter O'Toole (gaining his 3rd of eight unsuccessful Oscar nominations for Best Actor) and luminous Katherine Hepburn (her second consecutive and 3rd of 4 Best Actress Oscar wins). William Goldman won the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar, working from his own stage play; it's among the best screenplays ever written, up there with _All About Eve_ , _Sunset Boulevard_ , _Casablanca_ , _Citizen Kane_ and _Network_ . The film was nominated for Best Picture and deserved to win, but lost to _Oliver_ , an average movie adaptation of a better stage musical. A great movie to watch in December; I won't say more.
    Terry's other great movie was _Excalibur_ (1981), one of if not the best retellings of the Arthurian legends. Terry played Arthur, Nicol Williamson played Merlin, Cherie Lunghi played Guinevere, Helen Mirren played Morgana, and Patrick Stewart and Liam Neeson appear in early roles as two of the Knights of the Round Table. Along with the performances, the direction, set design, costumes and cinematography are visually stunning.

    Okay, it's like this. There's a tribe living down by a river, and in the river there are crocodiles. The tribe has one particular piece of wisdom passed down through the generations. It goes like this: if you happen to meet a crocodile, don't stick your head in its mouth. Every now and then, and who knows the reason, people ignore this advice, which is sad, because they die. But very stupid because they were warned. They had a choice. The moral of this story is this: You can't afford to be stupid. There are crocodiles.
    Now what I've just written has nothing to do with this episode, but it is written by the genius that is Steven Moffat for the lead character of his first show 'Press Gang', a 17 year old very smart girl named Lynda. I was enthousiastic to write about the fun fact of Jenny being you-know-who but as that seat was already claimed I had to find at least a wise one... and a itsy-pitsy Doctor Who related. * bows *

    Lots of pwople are goong to mention that Georgia is David's wife now, and thw Fifth Doctor's actual duaghter.
    What they probably wont mention is that the Fifth Doctor was in a tv show with his wife - Sandra Dickinson - called "the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", and that the main theme of that show is almost identical to the Doctor's theme motif that you mentioned in this reaction.

    In the very first episode of Doctor Who, all the way back in 1963, it is established that Susan Foreman is the Doctor's granddaughter. However, the show has never addressed the missing link in over 60 years. Jenny is, I think, the only person the Doctor recognizes as his child to appears on screen. It has never been confirmed that Jenny is Susan's mother, but there aren't a lot of other options.

  • @ghostsurfer23
    @ghostsurfer23 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

    This is a great episode, but there's a lot of silly things about it if you start to look at it objectively. Like why wasn't Donna or Martha 'processed' the way the Doctor was? And why does every single soldier produced like Jenny was get a full jumpsuit, but Jenny just gets a thin t-shirt? Well it's because she's the guest star and a pretty girl, so we need to show off...yeah >.>
    Those are more problems with modern television writing, though. One other interesting thing is how this episode contributes to the evolution of what 'Time Lord' means. Because in Classic Who, Time Lord isn't a race, it's a rank. Their race is Gallifreyan, or 'Shobogan' if you want to get technical, name for the native race of Gallifrey. But New Who largely treats Time Lord as the Doctor's race.
    Jenny is a great character, though, and one of the most highly-requested characters to return in the series. The Hath are also really neat both visually and conceptually. I wish we could see them again.

Love the stories Peter Davidson tells about Georgia telling him when David first asked her out to a play, but she wasn't sure if he really liked her or if he just wanted to improve her knowledge of Shakespeare. Okay, since no one said the whole meme, here it is. (Apologies if it was here in the comments and I didn't see it.)
    David Tennant (the 10th doctor) met the daughter (Georgia Moffat) of Peter Davidson (the 5th doctor) on the Doctor Who episode "The Doctor's Daughter", where she played the doctor's daughter. David Tennant and Georgia Moffat got married, and then she gave birth to a daughter. So essentially the Doctor married the doctor's daughter, upon which she gave birth to the Doctor's daughter, who is also the Doctor's granddaughter.
    There's more. Georgia Moffat said in an interview that she went to school with the daughter of Colin Baker (the sixth doctor.) She added that she was sort of under the impression everyone's dad was the Doctor.
    And one more thing. Someone once asked Peter Davidson in front of an audience what was the weirdest thing that a fan ever gave him. He mumbled "Oh, I don't know..." and then someone in the audience said "a granddaughter". Get it? Because David Tennant was a huge Doctor Who fan as a kid.

    There was a story going around at the time (I'm not sure how accurate it was ) that the original ending left Jenny dead, but Steven Moffat (writer of episodes like The Empty Child, The Girl in The Fireplace, and Blink and the next show runner of the show) asked them to bring her back at the end of the episode. This led to lots of theories that Moffat intended to bring her back during his run (which would be announced was coming fairly soon after this).

    I recommend that, if you can find it, watch the first doctor who episode, an unearthly child. BBC took it down due to a legal issue but it should still be findable in blue ray or dvd. And probably somewhere on the net you shouldn’t access, especially without a really good virus checker😂. But the episode introduces us to the mysterious doctor and his granddaughter who fled their home world and are exiled in time and space.

    Georgia Moffett ('Jenny') is the real life daughter of Peter Davison, who played the Fifth Doctor ("Timecrash"), and so is indeed the Doctor's daughter in real life. After this episode, she and David Tennant fell in love and she is now Georgia Tennant. And Peter Davison is David Tennant's father-in-law. All very wibbly wobbly, eh?

    The crossover special we could have used: Jenny and Captain Jack having an adventure. Part of his hostility is because The Doctor was the one who ended The Time War. And then, the Daleks. There is more for our host to learn, but Jenny is the mirror, and she is everything he dislikes about himself. That's fear, not contempt. And yes, the TARDIS knows.
    And in the six hours since this went live, I'm sure there have been 60+ comments that Georgia is the IRL Companion.

    It has always been the case that the Doctor does not have full control over where the Tardis goes.* It's eventually revealed (and it's pretty much what was expected) in what I say is my favorite episode (It might not be but I like it so much it's my default).
    * Go back to the early episode where he brings Rose home and it's been months and not minutes since she left. At least he got the planet right.
    And going back to the Classic Who episode where he brings Sarah Jane home - as the Tardis vanishes she realized it isn't her home (let's assume it's in Ealing as I really don't remember) - she's in Croydon. At least she was somewhere in London.

    • @loraleitourtillottwiehr2473
      @loraleitourtillottwiehr2473 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Sarah Jane's home was in Croydon, the Doctor left her in Aberdeen.
      But yes, it's an ongoing plot device that the TARDIS goes where it thinks the Doctor needs to be even if it's not where the Doctor was trying to go.

      Oh thanks so much! I recommend Patreon. The only advantage TH-cam has is it is you don't have two go anywhere else. Patreon is a little bit cheaper because TH-cam takes a much larger percentage. The 6.99 TH-cam tier gives the same as the $5.00 Patreon tier. Patreon also sometimes has slightly longer reactions as well due to TH-cam copyright issues. On Patreon you can also add full lengths at the $8.00 tier if you'd like, although you need your own copy of the episode to watch along.

Just when you thought the Doctor's family life was confusing enough - the 10th Doctor (Tennant) married Jenny (Georgia) who just happens to be the daughter of the 5th Doctor (Peter Davison - the Doctor in that short extra episode before Voyage of the Damned). They now have quite a few kids.
