    You mind giving us a breakdown of your whole chain there? Where the sounds recorded from something you did in ableton or did you have a synth that you ran into the norns and recorded to the norns library? Thanks man!

      All the loops were made with OP-1, and toy percussion (the ones at the top of the screen). I'm using TouchOSC to control the pitch, and volume of the loops. I also have faders to control the pan of the loops, but I accidentally recorded the performance in mono, so you can't tell.

    Awesome vid. Great info. The TouchOSC template isn’t mapped to anything unless I did something wrong. Was is left unmapped intentionally?

    • @peterbarkmusic
      @peterbarkmusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Afaik there's no way to include the mappings with the template. You'll have to manually map all the faders yourself. If you have any problems with that lmk, and I'll try to help out!

      @@peterbarkmusic Can TouchOSC work directly with the norns or is the bridge needed? From what I understand it seems that OSC needs to be built in to the lua script if the bridge is not used, correct? Thanks!

    • @peterbarkmusic
      @peterbarkmusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adam_aronson I'm not super familiar with using OSC messages, but I think you're right. To use touchOSC as a midi controller you'll need the bridge, but for the couple of instances where I used OSC messages I didn't need it.

    Hi Peter, another great video! :) ... When I tried your OSC on my iPad it didn't load, and I noticed the file name on your layout is '.tosc' whereas the other layouts on my iPad are '.touchosc' ... I tried to change the file name but it still doesn't load. Any ideas? Thanks!

    • @peterbarkmusic

      Thanks! That’s really odd, I think I might have made that template on the desktop version of TouchOSC. Maybe try opening in there and see if that works? There might be a specific way to export from there to iPad.

    thanks for the tutorial, how do I set tempo in MLRE? I tried to change parameters->clock but it did not work

    • @peterbarkmusic
      @peterbarkmusic  หลายเดือนก่อน

      You need to make sure that tempo mapping is active for any tracks that you want synced. There have been some pretty big updates to this script since my video released last year, so I suggest checking out the updated documentation. You can find a link to the lines page in the video description.

      @@peterbarkmusic thanks, very helpful, got it working with tempo map! Also do you know when I hit playback button, how can I make it always start from
      first beat?

      @peterbarkmusic  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lihenow I think this is another thing that has changed since this video was made. I'd recommend checking out the manual.

    Would it be possible to use an Ipad as a midi keyboard as well as controller? any resources that helped you figure it out? struggling to get it working at the moment :/

    • @peterbarkmusic
      @peterbarkmusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe TouchOSC comes with a keyboard template. It would show up in the load menu.

    Can you record your own sounds into mlr and other scripts or are they presets ?

    • @peterbarkmusic
      @peterbarkmusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      The majority of scripts don't come with presets. In most cases you are recording your own sounds directly into a buffer, or loading an audio file from Norns' tape folder. The tape folder is made up of sounds that you recorded to the internal recorder. MLR by default has its buffers blank, all the sounds you hear in the demo performance I recorded myself into the 6 different voices.

      @@peterbarkmusic I was hoping the sounds had to be created, thanks for the informative reply. Great vidz

    Is there any particular reason why you’re the only one that has done in depth norns and grids tutorials? No one else is doing them, and searching the lines forum feels esoteric. I was trying to find a diagram or explanation on there of what the grid pads do within MLR or any given script and I can’t for the life of me find any info on the grid functions only short explanations of scripts. It’s almost like everyone already knows how to use the grid in any given script even though the functions vary? 😅 This community is not user friendly at all haha.

    • @peterbarkmusic
      @peterbarkmusic  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The lack of video tutorials for Norns was a major motivating factor in me reviving this channel. @tworoundrobins is another good channel to check out. I'm going to have to disagree about the lines forum being difficult to navigate / the community not being user friendly. As far as MLR goes, if you follow the link in the video description to the lines page you'll find a link to the documentation, including an explanation of the grid. Most scripts will have some level of documentation, and if you ever have any questions the creators are (from my experience) more than happy to clear them up either in the dedicated thread, or through dm.
