Hello from Cali thanks grwat video Regular service is important. The 5r55s in my 2006 Exlorer was not srrviced until 100K mi. Now at 140 the low/reverse gas gone out. A 10mm ratchet wrench saves time on solenoid connector. I wish ford provided a dip stick.
Have you ever added a dipstick/filler tube kit to a 5r55s? If not do you think it is do able ( i have seen kits online ) I would love to have one on my fg,
i, just make sure you know the true fluid level when you mark reference point on the dipstick. you will also need to check at recommended temperature. on these trans you tap aftermarket filler tube to side of the pan. cheers
Thanks for this mate, was more than helpful! Had the exact same faults and fixed it. However the trans is now slipping.. going to try the band adjustment tomorrow and see how that goes? Any other suggestions?
hi, check all basics too, like battery strength ( not just charged ) good earths and electrical connections. if fault was there for a while, the clutch and band lining might have become glazed. you can try a good brand fluid property enhancer like lubegard. definitely adjust bands ( hopefully the servo rod ports through case arent worn ) in which you need to resleeve the case. cheers
i'm thinking about buying a 2001 Ford Ranger 4x4 6cyl from a private owner, the vehicle has the typical wear for the age, which is fine. The scanner says transmission solenoids a, b, and c are bad. I'm an amateur when it comes to trannys, but after watching your video, I'm confident I could complete this repair. Does replacing the pack you did in this video solve the problem I referenced above? thanks, love the detail you provide in your video, well done!!!
hi, yes will fix problem provided hasn`t burnt something else out in transmission. not a hard job to do, just make sure air is purged out as much as you can before fitting. have fun cheers
Thats really awesome and super informative. Thanks a lot. My ranger has no2 and no5 incorrect ratio fault AND pressure control solenoid B fault. From the chart, 2 and 5 are common to OD band as well as pressure solenoid B variable line pressure. Means I will need to adjust the OD band and I will replace solenoid B. Am I resonably right for first look? Can you please show me which one is Sol B and part number as well. Thankssssss.
Hi great video I learned a lot .I have that same transmission but when i start the vehicle and place it on drive have to wait until the vehicle warms up more then it will move.once hot it works good can you give me an idea as to what is going on with it
hi, if its better when warms up, usually is a sticky valve or solenoid problem as when things warm up metals expand and fluid thins out. also good idea to check filter isn't partially blocked. this is why I always do trans filter services and not just fluid change. always is best to do any adjustments, clean trans pan & magnets and replace filter. cheers
@@YepThatsIt hay thanks for the reply I did change the filter and add new fluid will know in the morning when I start but the filter was pretty dirty cheers
Hi mate greetings from Perth. I did a service on my 5r55s (xr6) recently. Cleaned out the shift solenoid and did the bands. My question is, when I put the solenoid back on the gasket/ filter screen was dodgy and had the white rubber seal lines missing in some places. I was borrowing a hoist and by that time all parts shops had closed so I had to get the car back on road. The car shifts smooth and there seems to be no problem. What do you recon? Should I take it all apart and replace that screen or just leave it if its working? BTW love your videos too :)
Hi, not sure how you mean white rubber seal pieces missing? That seal should all be in pretty much one piece. But, having said that and no having seen what you mean....you say it is running ok, so it must be sealing ok. Good stuff you had a crack at it ! Cheers
Hey mate I have a pj ranger auto, when cold it's driving ok. When it warms up it holding gears harsh shifting. Used a scan tool and have p0745 PCS A open circuit code. On the data logger all the PCS ABC pressures are low (is a cheap scanner) Oil is a little brown not too bad. Do you think an oil filter change is worth doing or just a waste of money is the problem somewhere else. Cheers
Thanks for the reply mate Do you guys sell the solenoid block or know of any who sells them? I've seen a lot of ebay and etsy solenoid blocks for sale not that keen on them but. If so can I get an email or phone number to contact you?
Hey mate. Great video however i did not see what torque wrench used to adjust the bands as i have tried using my wrench and there is just no space. Can you share what you use? Thanks
Hey mate love the videos, super informative. My pk auto ranger (Recently rebuilt 30k km ago) has just lost 5th gear shifts smooth, and fine for every other gear, but going from 4th to 5th there is nothing, not even an attempt. would that be ore of an solenoid issue + band adjustments, or another rebuild? there is no code coming up on my obd scanner, but the OD light flashes if it attmpts to shift into 5th (goes away when car is restarted) i am scared to drop the fluid as this is my daily at the moment.
hi, take back to rebuilder, check all basics first. codes only come for electrical issues, if a solenoid is leaking its considered a mechanical issue and usually wont throw a fault code. cheers
Hey mate thank for the video it’s taken me a while to find anything like this I have an pj ranger I suspect low trans fluid is low? when warmed up or after a few kms it won’t go over 2000 rpm and it drops revs when I try to go over that, I’ve changed fuel filter, done engine oil, air filter is clean, cleaned the MAP sensor could it just be the trans fluid is low?
hi, check basics first - like fluid level, battery strong and charged, electrical connections, good earth strap connections etc. could also be catalytic blocked? the solenoids in the solenoid block are high & low pressure so if they are worn or contaminated with metallic debris can cause shift issues. on these you need to replace the whole block. just make sure if you replace solenoid block, you dont damage the gasket on valve body and leave block with worm channels facing up in suitable oil to help purge out any air inside the block. hope that deserves a beer - link is in description. cheers
Hello need you help I got code saying PO745 pressure control solenoid A malfunction and gear 3 incorrect ratio that’s why OD light flashing pls help thank you do I need to open the transmission or just buy a solenoid
hi, you need the whole solenoid block. make sure you leave new block in suitable fluid with worm channels facing up and give it a bump every few minutes to try purge any air from inside solenoid block ( best to purge air out as in one of our vids with vacuum pump ) or you will have harsh upshifts until all air is purged out. cheers
Hey. I like your videoa a lot. I have a question. I have the same BT50 3.0CRDI auto but between 3 and 4 gear it shaking or have a Shifts hard is there anything I can do? The oil level is fine
hi, I`d need vehicle and more info....but check basics first - fluid, electrical plugs for good connections and no corrosion. does it do it all time or worse when hot/cold? any fault codes? more than likely is the solenoid block ( solenoid problem ) or can also have air in the solenoid block if it has run low on fluid or filter sucked some air or has loose bolts or flattened out seal on sol block. could also be wrong fluid ( if you use mineral trans fluid, it will make the seal on the solenoid screen go all soft and out of shape ) if all check ok and if that all fails, make sure you do a line pressure check....could be problem in direct clutch, o`drive sprag slipping or intermediate band ( these trans are re-known to flog out the bore in case where the servo piston pin runs , if so you will need to re-sleeve it or change case ). get an atsg trans manual will help. sorry but could be many things cheers
Hi, if you select right through gears a few times, and then check within temp, it should have bleed out any air bubbles and filled all the necessary chambers and torque converter.....so then unnecessary to recheck....but if you do want to, just make sure it cools down to temp and again select through all gears a few times and recheck, making sure the fluid doesn`t go over temp. cheers
Hello sir i need some help from you sorry for my bad english my ford ranger tdci 5 speed auto the problem is when i put gear to R jerk so rough gear shifting also not smooth im aredy change solenoid and band . So the main problem servo or valve body?

Hi how are you?I'm having some problem with my Ford ranger 2010 the rfw light for the 4x4 comes everytime I start the van.do you know what causing that
hi, do your hubs stay lock on all time or off all time? check for leak in your vacuum lines and check the rest of system isn`t leaking. hope that helps cheers
hi, replace solenoid block as in vid and do a relearn, make sure your bands are adjusted properly as well and add magnets to help keep muck away from sensors and solenoids. you can clean the 3 speed sensors as well on left side trans high up. cheers
