Martina was playing at Wimbledon in 2023 and will always be a stylish player . Have seen her play tennis in earlier years and was always impressed with her skill and guile .

My favorite Ladie's player in modern era or any era.I maintain, that an unlucky patch, like Capriati.Venus followed by Sarina both on same side of draw, having to play Sarina in 55°c after beating Venus prev,as on both same side of draw. Not forgetting she was just kid.17, with the expectations of a fairly delighted tennis scene. My mum and friends loved her genius etc..hi martina and thanks for the memories ❤

Its cocaine she tested positive for, not PED ... please be clear on that. People use cocaine mainly for getting high, not typically for performance enhancing ...

That's not the only reasons she retired. She said it was nearly impossible for her to win, because the players were so big.
She had a bad attitude, and was very unsportsmanlike.

she was the last representative(apart from Henin Harden) of an era of female tennis players with skill and technique and no brute force. She had to compete against the likes of Mauresmo Davenport and the Williams sisters twice her size stronger than most male athletes of the time. She could beat one or the other and she did but winning a title meant beating all of them one by one and no one could do that. She was a young little girl who became champion at 16 and so much more was expected of her. I wonder how you would handle such pressure!

@@cembarhana750seriously, NOT. Um... No she wasn't. Graf & Seles were both power hitters, the original power hitters.
They all possess skill and technique. You think it doesn't take skill & technique to serve a ball and get several aces per match.
You can hit the ball as hard as you want, without skill & technique, the power is nothing.

@@theire483 >Both Seles and Graf were strong hitters with great skill and technique. Our idea of power differs aparently.

@@cembarhana750 apparently, you think no one since Martina is skilled. I beg to differ.
What difference does style of play have to do with anything as long as you win?
And, a win takes skill and technique. The power never hurt either. When you combine the three, you get a Serena & Venus Williams... And others, like Capriati, Azarenka, and yes Sharapova.

@@theire483 Please don't put words into my mouth. I did not say that and already mentioned Henin who was after Hingis. I did not mention anyone else cause there has not been anyone else consistently performing since the late 90's apart from Henin and Serena. Obviously anyone in top womens tennis has skill and technique and more what I am saying is Hingis' skill was unmatched but she was no match for the power of her opponents in the long run. She was more than a match for anyone 1v1 but in a tournament she was not powerful enough to beat two or three more powerful oppenents one after the other. And can you really tell me that Venus Serena Davenport and Mauresmo were known for more their skill than their power and stamina? (my comma key does not work btw sorry about that)

Speaking as a tennis coach and as someone who’s been in the game also as a player 40+ years Hingis was a talented player unfortunately this was tarnished by her attitude…. She was not popular amongst peers on the tour… and some of the comments she made about her fellow players were RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL (Amelie Mauresmo) ( Williams Sisters) and others she came across as a cocky entitled brat…. I’ve seen the type of coached the type…I my parents always taught me no matter how successful you are or become always show humility and recognize those who helped get you there… when I played tournaments if I behaved badly my rackets would be locked away until I had learned my lesson…as far as I’m concerned her loss at the French Open to Steffi Graf that year was a KARMA smack down….

Her attitude and approach towards other players was so unacceptable by any stds.
    A champion cannot afford this.
One must learn from Steffi Graf.

I find it very hard to believe she had cocaine in her system. It’s too bad we weren’t able to enjoy more or her comeback due to that foolishness.
