It is a fact that when Seles had her two most successful years in 1991/92 Steffi had only her 11th-best and 9th-best of 15 full seasons (winning percentage) but still won 3 of 4 matches against the grunter. It is a fact that 5 of Steffi‘s only 7 (!) slam final misses of the whole 1987-96 decade happened between mid-1990 and 1992. How that? 😂 Did you have the hots for the Serbian Screamer….? 🤣 Even at her peak Seles was weaker than peak Navratilova, Graf, Hingis, S. Williams, Henin. She won a lot in a short window of opportunity when Navratilova was too old, Steffi in her worst slump and Hingis still a toddler.
I doubt she would have gotten more than Martina Navaratilova. Her type of game and her her ability to stay fit and athletic probably would have resulted in not a very long career but a short and VERY successful and dominant one. One thing for sure Monica would have ended up with more slams and Steffi would have ended up with less slams too.
@@guyinsf With Seles in the draw Steffi would have won Wimbledon 93. Even you will admit that. And which slams would Steffi not have won? @@carrerau7138 No one is saying that if Monica was never stabbed she would have won all the slams. We are saying she would have won more of the slam that Graf ended up winning and I think those would be the French, Aussie and US Open. Grass was still relatively new for Seles so she was still trying to get better and of course she would have improved. Additionally the confidence and fitness of Seles dropped so much after being sidelined for 2.5 years that when she got back on the tour she was never the same player and Graf continued to benefit from an "lesser" Seles beyond the 2.5 years as well. Monica was still a teen when she got stabbed and was ranked #1 and had a 3-1 advantage over Graf in slam finals. Also 8 of her 9 slams came before the stabbing so she was clearly winning the slams that Graf could have before the stabbing and would have clearly continued to do so as she was still only a teen and improving.
She wasn‘t. Steffi Graf was far more talented. Seles was grinder who profited only from Navratilova finally being too old and from Graf being in a bad slump due to off-court problems. And yet Seles lost many matches to both greats. She holds to this very day the record of the worst slam final loss (26 16 vs. Graf) and of a loss to the oldest player ever (36-yo Navratilova) for a #1 player. BTW, she also holds the #1 player record for a loss to the youngest player ever (15-yo Capriati). And the worst H2H of a #1 player against any opponent (2-5 vs. Graf). The stabbing inflated her legacy, especially in the USA and Serbia.

Absolutely true. Monica seles was unstoppable since 1991 until stabbing. She won consecutive 8 GS : 3 AO, 3 RG & 2 AO, & even reached wimbledon final 1992 before stabbing. She did make huge progress on all surfaces. Unfortunately they did criminal way to stab her. Even they let that criminal live free & unjailed. That's the worst crime in women sport in history. Seles is stabbed on her primetimes. They succcesfully blocked her steps. Graff is lucky to miss her. Seles had some other embarrassing negative records in that period: - worst loss ever for a #1 player in a slam final - loss to youngest player ever for a #1 player (15-yo Capriati, San Diego 91) - loss to oldest player ever for a #1 player (36-yo Navratilova, Paris 93) Seles was an archetypical transitional #1, comparable to Hingis a few years later. @willybeama1 exactly. The GOAT is not determined by the number of wins. It is determined the way those other great tennis players have done it. They take every aspect: serve, volley, return, speed, court coverage, etc. That is overall play. From that, we know how the GOAT is determined. Michael Jordan is a good example. I would put both Chrissy and Martina as co-GOATs given the number of titles each won and the competition they faced. Imagine if one had not existed...each won 18 grand slam individual titles and if one did not exist, the other would have likely won over 30 slam titles. Crazy to think of. Also, mad respect for their generation as they played induvial tennis as well as mixed men's and women's. Today's players only focus on individual matches, which saves a lot of energy by not playing in additional matches while trying to win individual honors!
Navratilova lost only 8 slam matches against Evert. 3 of them in 1975/76 when Martina was ranked only #4. One of them being the AO 88 semis when Steffi won the title. So how would Martina have won 31 of more slam titles, you maroon? Navratilova won 13 of her 18 slams (72 %) between December 1981 and September 1986. Her main opponents in that period were Evert, Mandlikova, Sukova, Shriver, Kohde-Kilsch. 17/18-year-old Baby Steffi was 23-0 H2H (46-3 in sets) against these players in 1986-88. I agree, between Steffi Graf and Serena Williams, I give it to Steffi. She has the Golden Slam 1988. We may never see it happen again in are lifetime. However Novak Djokovic is lauded as being the best with his 24 slams in this modern era. However especially in this modern era titles do earn money even without slams.

Problem is due to racket technology you can't compare eras. Steffi was probably the fastest. Serena the strongest and Martina most athletic with Chris being most consistent. The game today with the power provided by the rackets negate Martina's serve and volley game. Chris would have more power on her ground strokes but her mobility would be an issue. Toss up between Serena and Steffi but Serena's longevity was due in part to the change in racket technology

Comparing players from the 70s and 80s to the 2000s is quite interesting. I heard Margaret Court won 21 titles in a year. That alone should tell you the competition she faced. The top players back then hard easy early round matches. It hasn't been that way for about 3 decades now. I don't think any player on both the men's and women's side have won 15 titles in a year. This includes Steffi Graf, Serena and the big 3 on the men's side. Its impossible to win the number of titles Martina and Chris won in this era. Even though Steffi was better, her number of titles pale in comparison to Martina and Chris despite those 2 getting in each other's way. The game continues to evolve and winning titles are becoming more difficult. Some first round matches nowadays are better than some semi finals in the 80s. Nostalgia can mess up our memories at times. Each one is free to believe what ever they want, but I can confidently say Serena Williams has displayed the highest level of performance by any female tennis player. A typical example is the 2012 Olympics.
You act like they had no competition of any kind back then you might want to check yourself because you’re wrong, what they have now are rackets that have nothing to do with what Margaret Court played with. It’s just like in golf the players back then shit they could golf their damn ball and if you take the current modern player and give them the same racket and the same tennis ball and the same shoes, the same diet the same training. they won’t be any better than the players back in the day.
@@MrThrock09 I didn't say they no competition. All am saying the competition now is more intense. It was normal for the top female players to win 14 or more titles in a year during the 70s and 80s. Even the big 3 on the men's side haven't been able to win 14 titles in a year. Looking at all the talented players that played from 1990 till date, and no one doing it points to increased competition. The game has become very gruelling leading to injuries and aches here and there. Tennis in the 70s and 80s was dominated by Americans Australians and Western Europeans. Since 1990 the eastern Europeans have really shown their mettle. Some Asian players have won multiple slams. We even have a grand slam finalist from Tunisia. 5. Steffi won 6 slams after The Stabbing on fast surfaces where Seles never was able to beat her.

What people like you conveniently never mention is that Seles never would have won so many slams if it weren’t for the nasty Graf Blackmail Scandal in the early 90s.

Dude, she lost 3 of 5 matches against a SLUMPING Steffi during that short time! 2 of them were embarrassing routs. Whereas her 2 wins were close 3-setters, one even a 10-8 in 3rd with poor Steffi making 66 unforced errors.
Seles had some other embarrassing negative records in that period:
- worst loss ever for a #1 player in a slam final
- loss to youngest player ever for a #1 player (15-yo Capriati, San Diego 91)
- loss to oldest player ever for a #1 player (36-yo Navratilova, Paris 93)
Seles was an archetypical transitional #1, comparable to Hingis a few years later. In this case transitional between peak 87-89 Steffi and peak 93-96 Steffi.
BTW, Steffi beat Seles twice at the USO (95 & 96), won 6 of 6 slams in 95/96 while under criminal investigation (and her beloved dad in prison). Wonder what snowflake Seles would have done under those circumstances.

If we say he is the greatest player simply based on his NBA championships, everyone who played with him has the exact same amount of wins.

But they were before the WTA was formed. This is a count of WTA titles
Where is Lindsay Davenport. She won about 50 Titles
I think monika seles is best ever agar chaku humla nahi hota us per to uski zoli main minimum thirty grandslam hote ❤
Comparison by numbers is a false picture, a different world years ago, like all sports there’s change...just embrace.
Martina was the best..period.
What about Lindsay Davenport
Who is Victoria Azarenko?
an owl on court
Le quitaron sus puestos a María Esther Bueno y Lindsay Davenport, ambas fueron número 1 en 4 temporadas distintas.
Justine Henin ❤❤❤
Chris Evert: 167. The number is wrong.
Evert 157.
Navratilova 167.
Where is Lindsay Davenport? She won 55 titles!
Victoria Azarenko 😂💀
Lindsay Davenport 55 titles..why Lindsay.it.s not theres
I assume this is only during the Open Era. BJK won 129 singles titles in her career.
Where is Maria Esther Bueno?
MARTINA IS THE GOAT.NO DOUBT
177 TITLES😎
Actually 167, this was incorrect but yes she's the GOAT.
Margaret Smith in Open Eras is 92 Titles. Not 97. Chris Evert 157. Not 163. Steffi Graf 107. Not 108
Martina has 167 and Chris has 157....come on!
How do you even win more than 150 titles in your career?! That’s just crazy number!
They had a lot of tournaments with less rounds. So they’d play 3-4 matches and win the whole thing.
Steffi and Martina get my vote for the best
Don’t forget Chris Evert, 157 single titles.
Evert way above Graf
