    Never seen a valley set put in like this and ive worked as a first fixer/ roofer carpenter for 11 years on site !! I just run the ridge through with 4 by 2 the 4 by 1 on the outside and pull trusses to it

      I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing? 🤣🤣 but cheers for your comment 👌

      I have been doing these types of roof for 35 years and I do the same as you Jamie Webb although 4x1 for temp ridge. There's no doubt it is quicker to have temporary 4x1 on the outside and therefore need no 4x1 down the rafter lengths. Maybe the builder specifies this way.

    Hate diminishing trusses with a passion. I could literally overlay a valley with cut rafters in the same time it takes me to fit them and brace them up. Don’t get me started on setting ply flush either 🤣

      Hahaha I know mate they are horrible! And it’s hard work getting up and down with the trusses and stuff! Just a nightmare haha. Yeah inset ply isn’t fun either 🤣🤣👎. Cheers for your comment 👍

      There's not many times you need to flush fit the ply nowadays with the advent of dry fix valleys. We run 300mm rips of 6mm ply with a run of nogs under the outside edges as a stiffener.

    Little tip for anyone don't tread on the backside of a 4x1 with a strap on it will probably kick through and you'll fall about 8 foot like I did the other day 😂

    I have a question about standards, whilst a good tradesmen should always maintain doing quality work is there the possibility that one could be too much of a perfectionist?, resulting in lower productivity levels by spending longer periods of time perfecting small details that will be more less unseen?, should one develop certain tolerances to work to and understand when good enough really is good enough? Or should this ideal of perfection really be the priority even if it does take more time. I ask this as site work demands a required amount of specific output each day especially when on price work. One can simply be paid close to nothing if you spend too much time on a task, on the flip side if you rush work standards slip leading to poor workmanship. Love to hear your thoughts thank you

      That’s a good question! And it’s a fine line isn’t it! I think over time you learn where you can get away with abit more (joists, roofs and 1st fixing) and maybe concentrate more on neatness on (2nd fixing and finals) but saying that you need to make sure the quality is always pretty high to avoid come backs like squeaky floors and other customer care jobs! Depends on time scale of the build aswell for completion dates sometimes it’s hard to always keep the high standards.

    Hello Ashley love all your vids, I was just wondering how wide the valley boards are and also what material do you use to pick up the edges of the valley,cheers

    • @ashleydavenport3794
      @ashleydavenport3794  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Valley boards are 300mm wide and we use 2x2 nogs to support them 👌
