Could we take a moment to praise Bono for his continued calmness on the radio. He too must have been feeling the overwhelming pressure but he knew that his voice could never give this away. What a professional. Well done Bono, you did your job to perfection
We can all learn a lot in life from Bono. Nothing to be gained from panic, ever. Stay calm, measured, breathe and the better decisions will always be made. Even if sometimes they don't work out for the best.
Benz is a good team, they have a dominant car that's won 8 championships in a row and Toto is fun to watch. 1st time they lost, they don't know how to behave. After 8 years with a dominant car, you can become a bit entitled. Wish Toto/Lewis came to the award ceremony.
Max did not have a set of new tires fitted to his car. This is just another blatant lie his team tells him over pit radio!!! (An attempt yet again by his team, to motivate Lewis, as Lewis can get so angry and defeatist in his cockpit. Lewis's pit crew over radio will always feed Lewis info that a race win is always possible...Max needs no motivation like this from his pit crew over radio, after over 5 years in F1 with no championship, he has plenty of motivation!!!!)
he created the unnecessary confusion. They knew the race is lost when Verstappen pitted , still Bono gave Lewis assurance that the race will end under safety car 😂
I did say this many times, but Bono is amazing! Wouldn’t it be amazing to have him help you 24/7 for your life: “OK mate, we have a bit of traffic in the cafeteria line, so we’ll switch strategy and eat next lap, I mean, hour.”
"OK mate, so you've just received an invoice from the telecom. You'll be 50 down on your bank account, no problem. Your salari is inbound, so strat 3 and keep your delta positive."
Ha ha ha...I was thinking along the same lines. "Ok, so your Mrs has been shagging the postman. I'm going to ask you to stay on left hand side of the track, have a good night's sleep and contact the divorce lawyer in the morning". Just to re-confirm, little Timmy has football practice tomorrow.
@@leskerr9446 Like Lewis did in Silverstone ? Lewis was not "robbed" at all. All year Mercedes got presents from FIA, now the Red Bull team had better strategy. Lewis knew it exactly when he said " Is he right behind me with new tyres ?" Mercedes gambled to stay out and hoped the race would end with safety car.
@@BullmastiffForce what presents did Mercedes get from the FIA? You really should read the rule book over Christmas. The 10 second penalty was an appropriate penalty for Lewis. The rules state that it's the action not the consequence that determines the penalty. 10 seconds was an appropriate penalty. Unlike Max's brake check on Lewis. Which the rules state there should be severe repercussions in the next race and points on the driver's licence. Max got the two points but faced no repercussions that either affected his finishing position in Jeddah or starting position at YM. Just like after Monza Max was able to concurrently serve the 3 grid penalty and the engine penalty. So RBR were able to get a completely new engine and all the other bits and bobs and the grid penalty from Monza was eaten up. The FIA let that one slide. I think he was making a point. I doubt if he was really questioning whether P2 would be behind P1 in the safety car queue. He had been questioning the decision to stay out since the early VSC. He seemed to be amazed his advantage wasn't enough to justify a pit even after 40 laps of dominance. I might be biased but I kind of hear his radio messages as like "Oh he's right behind me? @@rmc4091 Of course they didn't, had the rules been followed the Safety Car should've been in +1 lap from race end, not -1 lap. They knew that so they didn't pit Hamilton, because within the rules it should've been race over and all that mattered was maintaining track position behind the safety car. Red Bull were already behind so they said fuck it and pitted in hopes some bullshit would happen. So when bullshit happened, suddenly Verstappen is on brand new softs while Hamilton is on old hards. Of course Mercedes don't want to race at such a massive disadvantage in tires, the onboards alone show how much slower they were because of that. He was. The advice he got, and the advice I'd give EVERYONE in a comparable position is that it's easy to look good when you win but people will judge you by how magnanimous you are when you lose. I would've said to him, for the next 30mins just say 'Yeah it was a strange one but well done Max.' Then later that night you can be angry and quiet. But for now think about how you want to be viewed in the future. I wish Toto had a father there to give him the same advice.
Actually Lewis was really calm in that situation too! Imagine yourself in that situation...having dominated the whole race, doing everything right and then have it taken away from you and you can do abso“bloody“lutely nothing against it! No matter who you are a fan of, in all my 40 years of watching F1 this was possibly the most brutal way for someone to lose (apart from Hill and Schumacher) Max and Redbull had nothing to lose hence the stop, which meant Hamilton was a sitting duck. Masi wanted a race to the finish which I understand, but it was totally one sided. He handed the WDC to Max on a plate. It should have been a red flag, given Lewis the opportunity to even things up and then hard racing to the end. Both of them deserved the title, but unfortunately that title was heavily favoured in one direction by Masi. Nobody should be blaming Max or Redbull for the farce at the end, this is on the FIA

Side note: explicit Merc decision not to change tyres because of fear of track position was made. Luck on RB's side and leading by fear on Mercedes side turned this around. I didn't realize that the safety cars also went slower than usual. The organizers REALLY, REALLY didn't want the race to end under caution and threw out all the standards to make sure there was a one-lap race.
Bollocks mate. Hamilton was just pressuring the safety car to try and speed up. Cos he was desperate for the race to end before Latifis car was cleared off the track.
For those who think that Mercedes made a bad call - if Lewis would have pitted, he'd have been behind Verstappen (and im sure as hell that he would have rather crashed Lewis, than letting him by, since Max has more victories, also, his tyres werent that old) plus I'm sure that many thought, including Mercedes, that the race could easily conclude behind the SC. Now just imagine if the race ends behind SC, and Merc just handed over the title to Max by pitting Lewis. They took the lesser risk from their perspective, and it made sense at the time.
and if the Safety Car hadn't driven slower than usual, and if the FIA hadn't let only the 5 cars between them unlap, then it would have finished under caution. Mercedes could only make their decision based on what normally happens and what is in the rule book, but the FIA threw that out to make sure there was an exciting finish.
@@contentioushackery Correct...except it wasn't the FIA but one individual (Masi) who made the decision. And he knew it was unlikely to be an exciting finish because the odds were stacked so heavily in favor of Verstappen. Ir wasn't just the massive advantage of new tires. Hamilton couldn't afford to be too aggressive in defending since, if there was a collision taking out both cars, Verstappen wins the world championship. So the question is...why did Masi make a decision (that was not within the rules) that he knew would virtually guarantee the guy who had no chance of winning before the safety car, would in fact win?
Can you hear what Hamilton is implying? You gave Max a pit and free drive right up to my tail. But "Keep working those old ass tires, like you have a hope in hell."

i like how on lap 56 even bono was like yeah lapped cars will overtake and SC in lap lap 57. but then fia was like nope. i think the fact that even bono assumed lapped cars would go through on lap 56 tells you all you need to know. if everything had been done right in the first place lapped cars would overtake on lap 56 and then sc in 57 and the nfinal lap 58. it just seems weird because at first they didn't. red bull complained about this so fia rectified their mistake by doing it all in lap 57
They didn't let lapped cars through because marshals were still on the track. There's footage of a marshal jumping back over a barrier as the cars pass the incident, as there was still carbon fibre and stuff on the track. Masi wasn't trying to rush it through, which is understandable but realistically, it couldn't be done in time to get the race started again while also following all the rules and maintaining safety.
I think people seem to not understand that Lewis would have won if they wouldn't have let the lapped cars overtake and also he would have won if they let all the lapped cars go through. So it is not suprising that Mercedes did what they did. They were super accurate with their decision cause if ALL the lapped cars would have got the permission to overtake there wouldn't be enough time to SC to left the track. I guess they didn't predict that Masi was going to overrule the rules the way that he found the middle ground where rules are half applied. But there isn't anything to take a way from RB still, they needed miracle and pitting Max there was their only hope anyways.
So wrong! End of lap 55 Latifi car was already up in the air and all crap was cleared from the track , they could have let those cars unlap themselves earlier. Did you not listen? Mercedes told Ham before the Masi incident that Max will be behind you with soft tyres and they gonna let lap cars by, so Merc knew this would maybe go down in 1 race lap... They fucked it up for not pitting Lewis bc like you heard scared of losing that track position.
@@tqrules01 they could never have pitted without losing track position, only when the gio incident happened and at that time Lewis's tyres were quite fresh. Also, even then there was a risk they would lose track position if max didnt pit. And if max didn't pit, that merc would have definitely overtook that rb anyway this leading to the same incident.
Hamilton commented on the risk they were taking by not pitting on the VSC, and again during the full SC. He knew their strategy was conservative and would be caught out by a safety car restart. Just imagine if it had been Hamilton who pitted under VSC, and Verstappen who stayed out for track position. This entire situation would have been reversed and it would have been Verstappen sweating the safety car restart. That's if Hamilton hadn't already passed him on track with his superior pace and fresh tires.
I do not think it would have been reversed, had it been the other way round.. Masi would have stuck to the rule book by the letter and previous SC situations and have the race finish under the SC, or alternatively if there was by some miracle enough time to unlap the cars, he would have had Lewis needing to pass cars before getting back into 2nd and chase down Max with little or no chance of doing it.. It was direct interference by an official to influence the race result in Max’s favor… It was clear the FIA, Masi and most the pundits wanted another champion.. This was a farce, it was up until the SC a clear cut win for Lewis, Max was making zero progress in closing the gap at that point.. So Masi had a choice, follow standard practice and have the race finish under the SC. Masi however threw the rule book out the sc window, manipulated the situation for a last lap race, he knew by choosing this this very unorthodox strategy, he was 100% gifting it to Max.. I have no doubt the situation was engineered to achieve what it did, a new F1 champion.. I only hope Mercedes take it all the way tontura high court if necessary.. If evidence is shown to exist, that it was indeed a deliberate act to subvert the race result, then the FIA and Masi deserve what is coming. As for Max, does he really want the crown if it was deliberately gifted to him? Guess, we will find out in time..
But that didn’t happen and that’s why Horner asked for 1 more lap and why Masi changed the rules to allow it and gift Max the championship. That’s why Hamilton said on radio that this has been manipulated.
@@alexandersimpson3638 doesnt rules say they have power on when to deploy or remove SC? Why if the track is clear of debris wouldn’t they pull the SC and resume racing? Hamilton’s pit strategy was way to conservative and he had bad luck.

I dunno man. I think this race was fixed more than week ago. Consider these elements. 1. Merc brought a QC (Queens Council - A very learned lawyer that has the ability to defend the Queen of England in her own Court) why would you do that? Unless you know ahead of time that something is up. 2 When asked about driving into Lewis and making it look like an accident. Max (IMHO) acted shocked and pretended not to know what the questioner was talk about. 3 The start, when Max forced Lewis off the track. Once the rage for verstappen normalizes people will understand how bad a win this was, and i mean this with no hate verstappen is a masterclass driver but this win just wasn’t a title deserving win
Huge respect to both of them, they both deserved to be WDC, but everyone wants this to happen on track and not with these controversies... We would love to see both of them battle, but by taking this call, Massi put the trophy in Max’s hand. When FIA is continually taking controversial decisions(Including Lap 1 incident) and putting its own rule book away, we will reach a point where F1 is no longer interesting and all of it becomes an orchestrated show...
@@stopato5772 Lewis cannot pit at that moment, because he would lose track position just in case racing wasn’t resumed. Max and redbull hopes for racing to resume and took on fresh tires. If Masi wanted to begin racing to make sure race did not end in safety car, he could have just begun it without letting lapped cars through. Here, he only let cars between Lewis and Max to pass, brought in the safety car earlier than it should, all after Max pitted. This surely gave some exiting finale, but also put trophy in Max’s hand. The point is Masi played a key role in the outcome of the race, and that too by breaking regulations...
do you feel the same, with controversies, with the races before the final race, where Mercedes/Hamilton got strange calls in their favor, and could come back in the title race? Or you just have it with the final race.
If he ends the race under Safety Car, he's handing Lewis the title. If he gives them one lap of Racing, he's handing Max the title. No matter what Micheal Masi does, because of the circumstances, he'll make a lot of people angry and people will say he decided the championship. There's no winning.
You can see, Mercedes already expected Max will be behind him and the marker will be released and that's the end of lap 55 where the track is just cleared. Nothing has been decided at that time yet, they totally bet on the race will end under the safety car but the marshalls clean the track very fast I must say. So If the steward handled the situation right, they should've released backmarkers right at the start of lap 56. It will cost about 1.5 laps for them to catch up and that will be at the end of lap 57 so we still can race in the last lap. People even say backmarkers didn't even need to catch up, they just need to be at a safe distance. All the controversy could be avoided with the correct choice by the stewards, Mercedes will still be mad but they can't say anything because they already expected it. In the end, it was bad luck for Lewis but he handled it like the champ he is.
Exactly - this isn't LH vs MV - this is simply saying that the race directors messed things up and didn't follow the rules. Had they followed the rules one way or another, this controversy could have been avoided.
They didn't let all the back markers through though. only the one's between max and lewis. They should've red flagged the race, allowed them to both put fresh rubber on and restart. Would've still been a cracking last lap but a fair one. Instead they manipulated the way the safety car was handled so they could favour Max. There's absolutely no doubts about it. Hopefully Masi is relieved of his duties before the beginning of next season.
Great comment. It seemed like Masi was so busy talking to Horner and Toto that they didn't let the lapped cars go as quickly as they could have which would have ended the controversy.
Lewis had 2 opportunities before SC to fit new tyres... they are still in the pits, unused... His gamble didn't pay off SC at a very unfortunate moment... That's racing
Formula 1 drivers and race engineers appear to handle pressure differently than most of the rest of us. LH and Bono were so calm in this moment. And even Max, when he was told lapped cars would NOT be allowed to overtake, simply said, "ha, typical decision" when in reality it would have been highly controversial for lapped cars to NOT be allowed to overtake the safety car. I believe most of us would be at least talking at an elevated volume, if not screaming, over the radio making our case for what we thought was right. They were both dealt ridiculous hands at varying times during the safety car, and they both handled the information they were getting like true professionals, as did their engineers.
When Bono said "Safety car in this lap" there is no wild reaction from Lewis, he knows this is normal in F1 racing. He does his best to fight on the final lap.

I think all F1 drivers whine. People tend to focus on lewis because they have a hatred for him. Max is always moaning because he draws penalties for his reckless driving, and no one moans more than Christian Horner!
That's because Lewis ignored 2 opportunities to come in for fresh tyres prior the SC when he had the massive lead.... The gamble failed... He put himself in Checkmate, and he knew it
You could tell he knew he was in trouble as he was asking for the SC to speed up, debris on the track still etc etc, anything to get an extra lap behind the SC.
Massive praise for Bono for being so calm and collected throughout. I get the feeling that Lewis may well have won had Mercedes opted for the same aggressive strategy as Red Bull and the lapped cars between Lewis and Max being told to unlap themselves. I genuinely don't think Masi made the call maliciously to disadvantage Mercedes - finishing the race under the safety car would have been a tragic end to an epic season and at least we got the race, and championship, decided on track. However, both Wolff and Horner are as bad as each other trying to sway the decision of race direction in their favour and it's sad that this clouded Masi's judgement, who should have been able to be strong willed enough to make race calls on his own. Abu Dhabi wasn't the first time this had happened but I really hope it is the last. Had it not been a championship-deciding race it would have doubtlessly finished under the safety car. The best solution in my opinion would have been to red flag the race, that way everyone gets free choice of tyre, and we would have had an insane 3 lap scrap for the win with both cars on fresh softs with Hamilton leading. Or the lapped cars should have been sent to drive through the pit lane and the racing could have got underway perhaps a lap earlier, giving two laps of racing with the same advantage to Red Bull on tyres, but that's what happens when you take a gamble. And anyone who blames Latifi is a moron.
I disagree with you about the SC. LH dominated the whole race and every little details of this race (except Masi's one). Max on the other hand was nowhere close to LH masterclass, he had no chance to win this race, and was lost far behind. Fnishing under the SC would of been logical because LH shown he was the champion, he mastered the race as he should have done, he was the best out there. The question is why giving Max such an advantage? Why deciding to erase a driver work and his team's effort like that? Reporters said LH was crying after the race, but fans need to remember that LH is fighting for equal rights, social justice, and the promotion of opportunities for all in the world; of course it hurts when own discipline let you down and promote injustice decision. This something LH had to fight against since he is a child. In conclusion, Totto's reaction says it all, Masi "It is not right, it is not the right decision."

folks like you are the first crying and throwing shit at mercedes when they pit him and the marshalls aren't able to clear that latifi car fast enough! maybe using hamiltons intuition as he wanted to stay on slicks just like norris in russia? without his team he would've finished that race outside the top7 and max would've won it starting from last (he finished second thanks to that late rain). even in turkey lewis was wrong...mercedes decision to pit only looked bad bc they delayed the scheduled for multiple - in the end - crucial laps! everybody had graining but bottas and max showed once you were past the period of graining the new inters got into for two laps you were flying compared to these old tyres. these folks working for mercedes being responsible for the strategy are one of if not even the best and they saved lewis multiple times this season (e.g. barcelona). only time they were wrong was in monaco but you can't cricize them for that bc NOBODY (obviously only lewis later claimed "he knew" once he saw it unfolding in front of him) assumed the overcut would be the better option
It's like how you stay positive and shows the dares and still creates enough possibilities to win and still going to win despite having huge risk but you got courage and you are fearless but then Racing Director comes and say "I am still alive for my wife Horner and my Kid Max"
Once Mercedes knew the director was gonna pull a fast one they should of told Bottas to park his car away from the nearest exit with a couple of laps to go because there was a problem 😉 😉
@@212go Agree, but I bet it would of felt good sticking those two fingers back up to the fia and saying you want to fix the race we can play the same game 😁
You all heard the radio message and still everyone is in denial on how the title was settled - Mercedes F'kd up but lets blame the race director - Golden rule in tyre strategy in a title deciding race, Do what your opponent does - If they change tyres, You change tyres. - Instead Mercedes did the opposite. Verstappen and RB outfoxed and out Raced them - BOOM
Don't be so stupid, in this situation, doing the opposite of your opponent was the correct thing to do. If Mercedes had pitted Lewis, RB wouldn't have pitted Max because that would have given Max track position. In this situation, with so few laps left, it was all about who was in front.
“Safety car needs to pick up pace” *but it’s a safety car* Edit: to those saying I know nothing about the sport, I indeed do, I just also come from a nascar background where when there’s a full course caution (which happens frequently, even on road courses) the “Pace car” as we call it in the states sets the caution pace and that pace would be about a 1/4 of what the normal race pace would be (a race where average 190 mph = around 50 mph caution pace) especially if there is a wreck and debris to be cleaned up 🤷🏼♂️
Correct but there’s still a pace they need to maintain. In addition to the tires the concern would be the safety car was slowing the pace to allow them clear track and get race going. Something Mercedes did not want to happen with max pitting.
@@noendtoseeing Yeah his comments were tactical of course. But you can hear some resignation in his voice and you can pity him. But then you remember he has 7 titles already in a car that is just too strong for the rest of the field.
They should've pitted. The stewards had a big hand in it, but Mercedes made the wrong call. Track position doesn't mean dick if the guy behind you is on fresh rubber and you're on age old tires.
Indeed. And its entirely possible Verstappen would have pitted regardless of what Lewis was doing. Then again if Lewis had pitted, Max didnt and the race would have been finished behind SC, then Mercedes would have looked really stupid. So there wasnt really easy solution here for Mercedes as they couldn't take that gamble so easily
@@Balnazzardi For sure Mercedes were doomed no matter what, I just think given that the FIA said "we WILL finish under green flag no matter what", pitting was actually the least risky, counterintuitively.
But under the rules either the lapped cars would un lap themselves and the race wouldn’t restart meaning track position is key or it would have restarted with 1 lap and 5 lapped cars between Hamilton and verstappen. The rules changed mid race to get an exciting final lap, it wasn’t the strategy that was at fault
@@whowoulge1256 on lap 55/56 Hamilton easily could’ve had pitted and raced with Max. NO WAY FIA would have given Hamilton another finish behind SC for the 4th time! Dude, we wanted to see racing, not parades!

Just imagine you losing your well-deserved promotion because of petty politics. That was what happened to Lewis that day. If it happened to any of you people who hate him, you would probably be scarred for a lifetime. And I can only imagine the outrage if something like this happened with Max. F1 is such a toxic sport. People wanted to see someone lose so badly that they celebrated a robbery in daylight. Was not a Lewis fan, but the way he congratulated Max and his family after all this made me respect him as a person. I know I would never be able to do that.
F1 isn't a toxic sport its just Lewis' Cult that make it toxic. That and the kids from football twitter making their way over to F1. Also, team should have pitted Lewis - they didn't- that ultimately cost them the title. Both Lewis and Max deserved it, Max eventually won
Because according to the rules the SC should have stayed on the track for another lap or the lapped cars should not have unlapped themselves. What happened was clearly against the rules and even FIA admitted it. Their only excuse was that the race director has authority to do whatever he pleases.

If Lewis came in for new softs, he'd have been in 2nd and if standard safety car procedure was followed, he'd have finished 2nd. Merc made the perfect strategy calls this race. Because of a safety car that put them in trouble, and because the FIA behaved in unprecedented ways, they were then put in an unsaveable position for the final lap.
Exactly. Mercedes played it exactly as they should. As they and everybody else understood the rules to be. I’ve always said, imagine how different the radio from Horner and Wheatley would have been had Mercedes pitted and not max. They would have convinced Masi to do the opposite to what he actually did (as Masi was wheatleys best buddy). Mercedes would have looked like absolute fools and would have been the biggest strategy blunder in the history of the sport. Lewis would have been even more inconsolable and devastated. Even if the race was restarted, does anyone really think Lewis would have been able to overtake max without being taken out? The guys a fuckin maniac.
@@oldschool8330 Lewis pretty easily overtook him off the line, and obviously cut a whole corner when Max tried to retake the lead aggressively. I think Lewis could've won if he was the one with the tyre advantage, but we'd never know.
3:05, everyone was expecting lapped cars to overtake on this moment (lap 56). For some reason, Masi inexplicably didn't allow that to happen. If he had of just followed standard protocol and allowed them to unlap on this lap. The safety could have come in a lap later on lap. Max would still have won it on lap 58. And we would have avoided all the controversy and confusion.
@@matthewkent4313 Latifis car was cleared on lap 55. Debris was cleared at the beginning of lap 56. They should have allowed lapped cars to unlap themselves at the end of lap 56. Which would have mean the safety car could come in at the end of lap 57. And Verstappen would still have won it on lap 58. So yeah, it could have been done without breaking any rules! The real question is, why did Masi delay the unlaping? When all of the teams were expecting it? My opinion is that he didn't want the title to be decided by a safety car. So he tried to keep a buffer of cars between Lewis and Max. But then he realised how utterly against protocol this would have been. So he switched the other way, and ended up making a botched last minute call of allowing cars between Lewis and Max to unlap themselves.
Spot on. No way this was rigged or manipulated. But Masi did botch his decisions there. He should have let all the back markers go as soon as the track was clear, as is procedure. Then they'd only have to wait until they are well enough clear of the front cars to not be a safety hazard, and then pull the safety car in with one to go.
@@footballnerd277 You're also assuming that the lapped cars are going to finish unlapping themselves from the end of lap 56 before the beginning of lap 57. There were 8 cars that had to COMPLETELY unlap themselves in order to file into the order, which is why the safety car comes in at the end of the FOLLOWING lap. That means that unless all of the cars have completely unlapped themselves in a quarter of a lap, that being the "end of lap 56", as per your own argument. which is impossible since the cars are driving SLOWER due to the safety car, then the backmarkers would still be unlapping themselves during lap 57. Therefore the safety car would have stayed out for another lap due to the regulations and the race would have ended under the safety car. Sorry buddy, but your own argument proves the opposite is true :)
@@Gryff782 Sorry buddy, but you don't know what the rules are. It says nothing about lapped cars having to completely unlap themselves. You don't have to wait until they've rejoined the back of the pack. You just have to get them out the way by allowing them infront of the safety car. Which takes almost no time at all. Also they could easily do 2 laps, in the time it takes for the safety car to do 1 lap.

Agreed, that's exactly what Mercedes was thinking.
Perfect explanation - Had Merc known what the FIA were going to do, they’d have probably pitted Lewis to give him a fighting chance
and if the Safety Car hadn't driven slower than usual, and if the FIA hadn't let only the 5 cars between them unlap, then it would have finished under caution.
Ir wasn't just the massive advantage of new tires. i like how on lap 56 even bono was like yeah lapped cars will overtake and SC in lap lap 57. but then fia was like nope. i think the fact that even bono assumed lapped cars would go through on lap 56 tells you all you need to know. if everything had been done right in the first place lapped cars would overtake on lap 56 and then sc in 57 and the nfinal lap 58. it just seems weird because at first they didn't. red bull complained about this so fia rectified their mistake by doing it all in lap 57
The issue is the ruling wasn’t made across the board. Only cars between Hamilton and Verstappen were allowed to pass
Bono said lapped cars would over take
Then he said they wouldn’t
They knew it would happen

Lewis actually can still defend. But it looks like no one in the team realized that it's not yet over until it is over
Hamilton commented on the risk they were taking by not pitting on the VSC, and again during the full SC.

They could not release backmarkers earlier than track works were finished. Thats both rules and logic.
@@KonstantinSedov-b5o at the end of lap 55, the car was already lifted and all the debris got cleaned. I just watched it once again.

@Mortician 14 people, it’s not about wanting no losers. It’s about wishing someone to lose. I didn’t like Hamilton in the past so much, that I really wished that he loses, instead of wishing someone to win. It’s a different attitude. And it’s a very big difference. In that race, Hamilton lost everything. It wasn’t just a second place. And also how he lost was horrible. I know, that Hamilton also is sometimes a cry baby. Buts it’s not about him. It’s about me.

"Staying out Staying out".... ahhh where is all went wrong
Merc team don't use Lewis intuition enough. He sensed problems and all they cared about was track position. Lewis went VERY quiet in the end.
Now listen here .....they race for the construction championship ....what lewis will be or not , is secondary ....no matter what you think , the drivers is only a tool to get whatthe team want .
folks like you are the first crying and throwing shit at mercedes when they pit him and the marshalls aren't able to clear that latifi car fast enough!
maybe using hamiltons intuition as he wanted to stay on slicks just like norris in russia? without his team he would've finished that race outside the top7 and max would've won it starting from last (he finished second thanks to that late rain).
even in turkey lewis was wrong...mercedes decision to pit only looked bad bc they delayed the scheduled for multiple - in the end - crucial laps! everybody had graining but bottas and max showed once you were past the period of graining the new inters got into for two laps you were flying compared to these old tyres.
these folks working for mercedes being responsible for the strategy are one of if not even the best and they saved lewis multiple times this season (e.g. barcelona).
only time they were wrong was in monaco but you can't cricize them for that bc NOBODY (obviously only lewis later claimed "he knew" once he saw it unfolding in front of him) assumed the overcut would be the better option
It's like how you stay positive and shows the dares and still creates enough possibilities to win and still going to win despite having huge risk but you got courage and you are fearless but then Racing Director comes and say "I am still alive for my wife Horner and my Kid Max"
Once Mercedes knew the director was gonna pull a fast one they should of told Bottas to park his car away from the nearest exit with a couple of laps to go because there was a problem 😉 😉
hahahha oh my xD
but that would have caused an investigation and probably a DQ for both the drivers and the team in the constructors
They dont really dare doing that since Renault pulled that one with Nelson Piquet Jr.

The fear in their voices. They knew a storm was coming.
It is still raining in the Mercedes area ☔
This is not the full conversation. There are other videos that have other soundbites...namely about the tires Mercedes didn't take.
One of the most satisfying clips,EVER.I love it.
“Safety car needs to pick up pace”
*but it’s a safety car*
Edit: to those saying I know nothing about the sport, I indeed do, I just also come from a nascar background where when there’s a full course caution (which happens frequently, even on road courses) the “Pace car” as we call it in the states sets the caution pace and that pace would be about a 1/4 of what the normal race pace would be (a race where average 190 mph = around 50 mph caution pace) especially if there is a wreck and debris to be cleaned up 🤷🏼♂️
Correct but there’s still a pace they need to maintain. In addition to the tires the concern would be the safety car was slowing the pace to allow them clear track and get race going. Something Mercedes did not want to happen with max pitting.
You obviously don’t understand How the safety car protocol works, get some knowledge about the sport before making stupid comments pls
@@mlo527 Ironic given how happy Lewis was in this same race in 2016 for the lead car to not go as fast as it could...
@@noendtoseeing Yeah his comments were tactical of course. But you can hear some resignation in his voice and you can pity him. But then you remember he has 7 titles already in a car that is just too strong for the rest of the field.
Clearly ur watching this for the first time lol 😂

F1 isn't a toxic sport its just Lewis' Cult that make it toxic. That and the kids from football twitter making their way over to F1. Also, team should have pitted Lewis - they didn't- that ultimately cost them the title. Both Lewis and Max deserved it, Max eventually won
Ground control to mayor Tom
Hahaha LOL
The way he says: oh fuck is he right behind me? said it all
Even from their own team radio it was fully expected that backmarkers will be allowed to unlap themselfs. So why all the fuzz?
Because according to the rules the SC should have stayed on the track for another lap or the lapped cars should not have unlapped themselves. What happened was clearly against the rules and even FIA admitted it. Their only excuse was that the race director has authority to do whatever he pleases.
Right?… just salty mfs😂

This is great to hear! Thanks.
Christ I've never heard him sound so defeated. He knew the race was lost while he was still in the lead.
I still haven't recovered from this
3:05, everyone was expecting lapped cars to overtake on this moment (lap 56). For some reason, Masi inexplicably didn't allow that to happen.
If he had of just followed standard protocol and allowed them to unlap on this lap. The safety could have come in a lap later on lap. Max would still have won it on lap 58. And we would have avoided all the controversy and confusion.
Not true, if they followed the rules rhe safety car would have stayed out for another lap and the safety car would go in while the race was ending.
