A lose lose situation for Mercedes. Had they lost track position the race would have more than likely finished under the safety car. So either way the FIA would have had the race to go Max.

there is a sound clip of alonso and all other drivers on youtube. Alonso was indeed laughing after the first call came in where they couldnt unlap. He said verstappen should be infront of him, not behind him.
It was either they let everyone unlap themselves which meant there would probably be no laps left or just race with those laps left with the cars in between Max and Lewis, not half and half. Max is a deserved champion but Lewis should have won the race. Mercedes calculations were logically right not to pit but they weren't expecting human intervention to interpret rules and give the race win to Max. That last lap wasn't racing, it was merely a show. @@prometheus8073 "Mercedes calculations were logically right not to pit" no they were not, Masi was supposed to let them unlap themselves a lap earlier than he did. Also merc decided at the beggining of SC. Lewis is the driver that won but redbull is the team that won this race.

RB gambled with pitstop and hoped for at least a race lap to end , Mercedes opted not to pit and hoped for a finish under SC

What i dont like is fans etc claiming Max didnt deserve this and was gifted the title ...Max didnt do anything wrong , and deserved this title as much as lewis ..lets not forget Max had most wins , most poles and most laps lead this season .. and with 3 DNF it could have been decided a long time ago ..
RB gambled with pitstop and hoped for at least a race lap to end , Mercedes opted not to pit and hoped for a finish under SC
As a Lewis fan I completely agree with you except for the last sentence. Merc does not have the option to pit with only five laps to go because the chance of ending a race behind the SC is real. Had that happened it would be the biggest blunder in F1 history.
only lewis fanboys will try to question a title where max was the better driver all season long
@@PoYenTseng what would have bin a bigger blunder if the fia sticked with: we wil not let any lap cars go. (1.5 laps later) they luckily set things right.
@@PoYenTseng but they knew it wouldn't end behind the saftycar. That was 99.9 % certain. They all decided that after the spa debacle. So sorry Merc responded like cowards. And Lewis knew it. So did Bottas btw. Even Bottas said before the race ended Lewis needs new tires . Don't get me wrong I feel for Lewis. And this year is the best Lewis I've seen in years. Probably the best.
@@PoYenTseng Yeah, it was a tough call, but I'd say it wasn't as clear-cut. The teams had this agreement that they want to finish under green flag conditions, whenever possible. By lap 56, Latifi's car was out of the way. I never expected it to end under a safety car for a single second. It was the season finale after all, and that changes things.
Whether the FIA truly bent the rules or not; whether you were rooting for Lewis Hamilton or Max verstappen, one thing is for certain... That last lap was the most intense moment in probably most of F1's History.
How is safety car bending the rules. It was pure considence. Latifi crashed and left his car on the track and they had to use crane. Sry but do lulu fans really believe this was all done on purpose. Latifi was working for red bull.

Read what I wrote.👍
@@martinpospisil3747 Hamilton was more than just unlucky, he was the victim of a wrongheaded decision which put the show above the sport. He didn’t deserve to lose the title that way - nor would Verstappen had the roles been reversed.
@MonRoe x Not really, if you know Racing, the conclusion was written the moment the Safety Car left the track. Lewis on 38 lap old Hards and Max on fresh Softs.... there was no way Lewis could keep Max behind him.
@@tonespeaks Sergio disagrees ;)
the netflix version of this WILL. BE. EXTRA. SPICY.
Considering the amount of bad luck and unfair treatment Max had in 2021, this is more deserved than it might seem
Except that it was against the regulations to let them ”race”.
@@oggiwa like they forgot to black flag Lewis Hamilton at Silverstone
Lewis had the racing line i dont know what you are on about, lewis had no way to move and yet max took the turn into him after previously giving him space.@@stefanmirani
@@oggiwa Then why did lewis get the penalty?
