    If you didn't see a difference, your filament hasn't absorbed moisture. It pops and crackles when wet and is really stringy.

      I know this was 2 years ago, but would it cause it not to stick to the bed? My uncle gave me a shitload of pla bc he only prints petg now, and I tried to use some overture white pla filament he gave me (it has been used a bit) and I could not get it to have good bed adhesion. I opened a fresh spool that he gave me of the same brand, same filament but black and it works fine no issues with adhesion.

    I think the problem with your 3 different drying videos is that the “wet” print is too good. You clearly have a very minimal issue with moisture, so you are not going to see the issues that many others experience.
    Soak some nylon in a bucket of water for a week. Towel dry 10 yards or so and then run your tests. If you still get great prints, all you have proved is that even the water in California is dry!

    • @anonony9081
      @anonony9081 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I wonder about that too. For me damp PLA simply fails. Even if I get a print half done and then swap filamnets it won't adhere to the previous layers and fails

    just got mine, albeit under the Jayo name, but it has a Sunlu sticker on the bottom of the unit. I modded mine with the guide I found here on youtube. I did tweak it though. The video shows running the fan that was installed off the power input (soldering the leads straight to it). However, that means if the unit is plugged in, the fan runs regardless. I soldered the fan leads into the red plug that goes to the heating element. Fan runs when heating, not when plugged in. Much better that way. About to put a roll of Duramic PETG in it and see how it does. Just need to break out my scale that will read small gram increments and see if I can get an accurate run. Seems like a well made unit though

    Looking at the dryer, I am a little confused, there is a heater to get the remove the water from the filament but I do not see a fan to remove the humidity from the box. Once the box is moisture-rich removing more from the filament should be difficult. Once the heating stops the moisture should be reabsorbed by the filament.

    I bake my filaments in a 1000 watt stainless convection food dehydrator for 24 hours, before sealing them in an airtight box. When I am ready to print, I add them to my Sunlu. I don't expect the Sunlu to actually dry my filaments, but it will keep them dry while I am printing. Make sure you turn the Sunlu on and let it warm before adding your filament.

  • @MarcusPocus
    @MarcusPocus 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    because no air flow, you may have at max a 20% humidity less and that explain the little difference.. a solution is to open the drier few times during the process for to change the air (like those who’s use a oven to dry something, they need to open it few times for humidity evacuation).. a tungsten bulb of 60w in a box was my first drying unit!

    Personally I think its over priced for what it is but that's just my opinion. You can make your own dry box for far less money. Grab a plastic container from local hardware store (Lowes, Home Depot, et.,) that has a sealed lid and throw in some dessicant, 3D print a bar/tube to act as a roller and place the filament on it and cut a small hole in container and use a short piece of filament tubing to run the filament out of it and viola! Got a home made dry box for far less money. If they can get this product down to about $25 or less then it would be much more compelling to buy. Again just my opinion.

    • @ipmate9334
      @ipmate9334 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Dessicant is not good. My filament was still wet. If you live in an area where humidity is 70+% then silica gel or dessicant is useless. You need heat and convection

    It's too pricey for what it does. If it could be set to run for lets say 6 hours every other day, yes it would be good. For even less, a maker can get a cheap dehydrator and for extra $20 a tp-link smart plug switch. Now set that knob to the temp (60C for PLA) and set the smart plug to run 6h. In Florida in a garage, PLA gets wet in days.
