    Congratulation! I've realized in last time period the I'm quite not interested about how loud the sound is, rather than sound ingenering that is awesome! Once again congratulations! (I've realized that those kind of stuffs aren't quite easy but they are super! I think it's hard to manage but it gives you a positive energy when you see that all people are going happy from the event where you've bring a professional sound system! Good-luck!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍🙂

    Crushed it! Since my son is becoming my assistant on events, I show him the troubleshooting you do in real time and its an invaluable training aid, so thank you for always showing what issues you come across! And... even though the beta 52 isn't my main kick mic, if I have an issue I always use that as a back up and it always works great! Stay safe and happy new year!

      Thanks John - we want to keep it real and mistakes and problems are a part of every gig. My saying is that nothing is a problem until it's a problem and there will always be problems... so it's about how your resolve them is where experience comes in and always keeping your cool.

    I don't know much about Presonus also because in Italy as a brand it is not very widespread but I really like how you have organized yourself in terms of wiring and connections, also because when you find yourself having to manage a stage by yourself and also having to take care of assembling and disassembling everything in time reasonably fast, if you are not organized well, you are in for big problems. I really appreciate your way of working.

    Was fun watching. After doing sound/lighting/backline/pyro-technics for 40+ years. I don't miss the long hours. While guests are eating steak and lobster. Promoters will inevitably end up giving us hideous box meals. Always pack protein bars, granola and plenty of H2O. ✌️❤️ and 👍 keep doing what you love.

    I really love seeing those soft cases and bags instead of hard or flight case. They are lightweight, protect the gear pretty well, and scratch free. For some equipment it really helps more in the case of small transport and small crew member.

    Appreciate the content, I enjoyed every bit of it.
    For those unaware, any event like this should, would likely have an event coordinator/manager that's a single point of contact for everything... regardless how big or little.
    Also, an event document should've been generated and distributed ... detailing each relevant element of importance.
    Load in/load out accommodations, parking details, security, room setup, pipe and drape, electrical needs, internet needs, trash cans and housekeeping, food/beverage, etc.
    Also, typically there's house phones whereby one can contact a central dispatch operation to facilitate getting one what they need.
    Regarding the parking of your van, the event document would state, "after load in, Pro Audio contractor will park adjacent to loading dock B" ... for example.
    Or "at the conclusion of X the lecturn is to be struck from downstage right".
    It's worth noting, just as they mentioned in the vid, indoor loading docks are wonderful, for a variety of reasons!
    One standout impression of mine, after just now discovering your channel and viewing this one... I saw nobody around the back of house area. My only guess a slow night with a modestly attended event...
    Much appreciated

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Details and a plan are so subjective and how much work people elect to put into them....we still occasionally irritate event planners on what would be the most basic of questions. We are lucky (by design) that we are pretty self sufficient.....we should have just left the lectern on stage!

    Not quite what I was looking for, but very informative. I know lifting that subwoofer was not as easy as you made it look, those woofers are very heavy. I was looking at how to set up several speakers at once and found this. I did learn something though. Thank you.

    Nice job. I do a LOT of events like this with similar bands (I think I have a video or two of my setup). I’d combine your rack gear into a single 12sp on wheels, that’s another thing you don’t have to lift. Load subs first, stacked, any racks behind, fill in with speakers. Use a magline for a cart. I’d even use a single 15/2” to cut down on main speakers (less to carry). Efficiency is everything

    • @thesoundcouple

    Hi Bart, I agree with you about the Shure Beta 52A, I have used just about every "kick" mic available including old vintage AKG D12, EV RE20, AKG D12E, Audix D6, Sennheiser 902 and all of them work and do the job, BUT,,,, to me, the Beta 52A is the only mic that can be used without any EQ and it always sounds really nice. Always enjoyable to watch you guys! Here's to a PROSPEROUS New Year!!!!!!!!!for all of us :)

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks...in the end they are just tools and it's more about how you use them..but the 52 is a tool that makes me get the sound I want more than any other mic I have used...your list is a bit longer than mine :)

    *He didn't.* lol that one is so classic. Let that be a lesson to everyone watching, if you're a sound person just be prepared to take care of everything yourself, and if you're a musician, if you say you're going to do something, please DO it.

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What's really funny is that at the previous gig, he was taking ours off the stand to put his on....so we can't win. We are always prepared and that is sort of the way we fly....but I have worked for others, more in the A/V world, if it ain't on the sheet, they ain't getting it.

      @@thesoundcouple Yeah sometimes ya can’t win for losin’. I am a musician/bandleader first and sound guy second. We always supply our own PA for band gigs, and I’ve done PA for bands other than my own too, I just wish musicians had more of a grasp on the sound side and in some cases I wish the sound guys had more of a grasp on the playing side. Couple of takeaways for me:
    * encore is international, they are here in Australia too in a large way!
    * make a cart for your line array and ramp for van already 😂

      Yup... we've got those jokers in Canada too... I did a gig recently where they provided PA, and it was a shit show.... barely found enough XLR, PA was wired up wrong, 1 of the cabs had a blown tweeter, wasn't a decent mic stand in sight... all that and I was stuck mixing on their shitty soundcraft SI impact.

      Appreciate the comment and for you taking the time to watch! Our pricing really varies from the type of gig and clients and are mostly offered and negotiated from there. Sometimes it turns out well, and sometimes we can feel pretty beat up. We would like to be charging a premium for every gig, but the reality states that's never going to happen.

      @@thesoundcouple Nice gig log, another way to save your back for the future is, to push not pull. Chiropractor explained it to me. Also bend down like a baby, instead of bending over. I started taking the doctors advice and i have had no back issues in five years. I always bend at the knee and squat down to pick anything up and i always push my carts. The injury to the back comes after you done all the bending and pulling. It could be a week after, you might just cough and bring on a back injury or sneeze or bend over to put on a shoe. The damage was done weeks ago from pulling something or bending to pick up a cable. Good luck this year and good health.

    Do you always set up your Audio in front, I try to set up big audio all the way to the back or top front subs on the corner, so you can't see all those boxes.

    Hi, I wanted to share a concern regarding the speaker setup. I'm convinced that the tops are set too low in basically every video you do. The bottom speakers shoot directly at the ear level, meaning that the closest standing people get very high impact while basically shielding the people behind them from the sound source and impacting its characteristics especially in the higher end of the sound spectrum. And the top speakers shoot the majority of their projection at the ceiling. I believe the ideal set up would be to raise the tops altogether by at least one head hight and angle the array downward to achieve more even coverage.

      PreSonus CDL manual:
      WARNING: Maximum pole height from the top of the upper CDL18s to the
      bottom of the CDL12 cannot exceed 17”. PreSonus recommends the K&M 21334.050.55 Distance Rod.
      So this is what we use.
      Understand your concern, but to the best of my knowledge, we have never received a complaint and they perform well for us. At times, it would be nice to get higher when on two subs (regardless of what the manual says), but besides my lack of height now becoming a challenge, we are unaware of any speaker pole that could accomplish this safely. Each cabinet has a vertical throw of 20 degrees, so the looks of the cabinets may be deceiving as well. The CDL 12's have two mounting positions for single or double stacking and those are your options.

    Live sound reinforcement for small venues has come a long way since I did it in the late 70's through the early 90's. But I will say this: I would never rely on a wireless connection for anything except wireless mics in a pro gig, and I was never happy about doing that. The ability to walk around and change the mix is cool though. Never had that back in the day!

    Does presonus not have double 18” subs ? Or did you chose single 18” because it’s easier to lug around? Also any difference in sound quality? 2x single 18” vs double 18”?

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  ปีที่แล้ว

      PreSonus doesn't offer a dual 18" model. We used to own several dual 18's" EAW cabinets. When we scaled down to a more modular system, going with single 18" for us so we had more options. Sonically, I don't think there is a huge difference...it's more about factoring the logistics of a single vs. double.

      I can't recall technically what we did here...and we probably did (perhaps a cut in 50-60Hz). However, an empty room will always sound different. In some cases, the room will change with more bodies and more heat, or these transient frequencies will become lost as the noise floor increases. So it's a balance of knowing how much change to address at this time. I find myself sometimes adding back what I took away during soundcheck!

    Enjoying the channel! Do you have any recommendations on a set of smaller speakers? I do event videos and sometimes get requested to bring PA, so usually end up renting but figured I might as well buy a pair. Mostly speech in smaller venues (50-150 ppl max) so nothing crazy. Nothing too expensive either because I'll probably stick to renting bigger and better if there's live music involved. Keep up the good work!

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching our videos! I am a bit hesitant to offer gear recommendations as there are a lot of good offerings. I would start first with determining your requirements and then research who best can meet those. So some considerations are: Price/weight/powered vs. non-powered, DSP options, built in mixer (how many channels, tone/volume controls), connectivity (e.g. Bluetooth, RCA, 1/4"), speaker size, and these days....Availability!! Another big consideration is whether the speaker will do the mixing or you will use an external mixer. If you are using an external mixer, then buying a speaker with more back panel functionality can become redundant. Also, I would highly recommend buying at least a soft cover for any speaker. It's amazing how much they save the cabinets from scratches and keeps them looking good..if that's something that's important to you.

    Hi there! Love your content! I really learn alot from you guys as a fellow Sound production company. I wanted to know your opinion on the CDL12 speakers you currently use? How many people can you cover with them, indoors and outdoors and obviously at what volume.

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Elisha - The CDL's work really well for us. Part of the reason why we started our channel was to demonstrate gear in the real world and this is lacking for a lot of products, which included the CDL's. We hope that our video series helps people see what is working. It's hard to put numbers on some of the stuff because every application is different. For example, I would say there are different requirements for a street dance vs. a concert, even though the same gear could do both, but perhaps not as effectively. We have done street dances with thousands in attendance and there is no way that would have met the needs of the same number of people attending a concert.

    Could you tell me if you use a decibel meter if so what are your typical levels
    Also how do you like the Presonus PA,

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for subscribing to our channel! I use a simple app on my phone called "Decibel Meter" on my iPhone if I need a reference. I have compared it to a real meter and it appears very accurate. My typical levels run around 95dB. The CDL's are the best sounding speakers we have owned, with the 328ai's right there with them. What I really like about the 328's is they take anything thrown at them and the cabinets are very high quality build and loud for their size. The CDL's you need to watch as they will go to clip or limit sooner but they provide better even coverage. We used to run EAW 325's and they were louder but 3x with weight (much bigger cabinet) and we carried amp racks. We needed a system that Stacy and I can manage and we get by doing the same types of gigs as we have always done with our EAW system, so it's worked out great for us.
