    Really enjoyed your Taiwan videos. The riding looks really good and varied, with challenging climbs. I had never considered Taiwan for a cycling trip, but now it is on my to-do list.
    Thanks for sharing your advice too. 😊

      I’ve had the privilege of traveling quite a lot with my bike recently and I can say Taiwan is one of the best places in the world for cycling. The only wild card is the weather so just keep that in mind when you’re planning your trip.

    I live in Taipei and ride regularly. Thanks for reminding me how fortunate I am to live here. Rode up to Buyan Pavilion just a couple weeks ago.

    I would also strongly suggest the reverse of the ShuanXi to Jiufen route: traveling North-South up the North 34 (北34) from this point 25°07'21.0"N 121°51'50.0"E to the top of Jiufen then work back on 102 to the pavilion on the top (不厭亭). You get to see the two-color ocean and a small waterfall wtih gold/copper bottom rock, and the view backwards feels different but still amazing.

    I'm going to Taiwan in 2 weeks, and have been watching quite a lot of videos about cycling in Taiwan.
    Your cinematography and drone footage is the best I've found.. might try one of your strata routes during my visit. thanks bro
    Also, do you know of any places to rent carbon or aluminum drop bar bikes? I've only seen flat bar road bikes from Giant, do they rent drop bars? I know Rapha rents carbon bikes as well, but I'm not a member,

    Awesome series of vids! Question: What drone did you use and where you pack it on the ride? Love the high overhead shots.

    • @JohnnyZeeLee
      @JohnnyZeeLee  ปีที่แล้ว

      The drone is a Mavic 3 Classic. I pack it in my Tailfin AP20 bag. I actually just did a video about my bike setup. This bag is what allows me to bring gear for making these videos.

      Really glad to hear that, thank you. I use a Sony ZV E1 most of the time whenever I’m speaking to the camera. The shots of the scenery is done with an iPhone 14 Pro.

    Is it a good idea to go to Taiwan from November-January? and to Japan in the summer (July-Sep)? Those are the bad times of the year climate-wise where I live so that's when I want to go somewhere else. And do you have any advice on what part of Japan to go to? Basically I want to go somewhere relatively cheap, and to ride a lot. I don't care about social life while there, or big city stuff. Just want great riding, great roads, good weather, and an easy/inesxpensive/convinient area to live. I wouldn't have a car or motorbike so getting around easily would be important.

    • @JohnnyZeeLee
      @JohnnyZeeLee  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have never been to either of those places at the specified times. But from what I’ve heard, I would avoid both those places at those times. I personally don’t like riding in the rain and it is rainy season in Taiwan during those months and rainy season in Japan in those months. Also I personally found Japan to be super expensive.
      For November to January, I recommend Chiang Mai, Thailand. It honestly fits the description of what you asked for. Like exactly what you asked for. Really good roads, great weather at that time and very cheap (relative to both Taiwan and Japan)
      I would rather go to Taiwan in the summer months. Still might get some rain but not as much as in winter. Also it will be super humid but I didn’t mind that too much. If you’re super keen to go to Japan, spring and autumn are the best times to go.

      Do you have a question?

  • @MFQuinnCyclist
    @MFQuinnCyclist 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Another question please. Even if you start at 6am and do a long ride you will still be riding past 8am. You also mention the drivers were aggressive. So I’m confused as to the safety of riding there as your other videos show basically no cars in the road. Can you expand on these comments so I have a better understanding of what I need to do? I will definitely try to catch some of those group rides you show but I’d also like to head out into the hills alone. Thanks

    • @JohnnyZeeLee
      @JohnnyZeeLee  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Riding in Taipei is generally pretty safe. There are many mountain roads that are very quiet regardless of what time you start. Just try to stay close to the river bike path. The worst part is getting out/back in to the city. Not even for safety but there’s lots of lights.

    What you talk about is my barrier. I’m 90% I’m buying a road bike. My only hesitation is that I’m a night person. They all wake up at 4 ish and meet at 5 ish to ride.
    It’s cooler, the roads are empty except for the occasional drunk driver that will run you over 👀😅🥹
    I will need to get disciplined if I really want it.

    • @JohnnyZeeLee

      There are evening group rides as well. Rapha and I’m sure many other groups as well have evening rides in Singapore and Taipei.

    City road No. 102 is more beautiful in autumn. And you can try city road No. 106 right after 102 decent to Ruifang. 106 will lead you to the 五分山雷達站 which is the highest mountain top of the northern-east coast of Taiwan. The view is breath-taking: th-cam.com/video/_9GTteP69ws/w-d-xo.htmlsi=YOBqLw4VxyyiIgto&t=1471

    Hey, I have almost watched all your videos. Because I am going to Japan for a ride in spring next year. You don't seem to wear cycling gloves. Why?

    • @JohnnyZeeLee
      @JohnnyZeeLee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hope you have a great time in Japan! I didn’t have the best time cycling there but I do believe there are some great roads to be found. I just don’t like the feeling of gloves. Most times, I don’t find it necessary. Just when it’s super humid and my hands get all sweaty.

    • @jasonloke2219
      @jasonloke2219 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnnyZeeLee Can be helped. Even $1.00 cotton gloves can save your palms. Especially when you need to brush your teeth and wash your face in the morning. We can't predict when we might fall. Especially when it's someone else's mistake. Especially bad when you are going downhill fast. I am also a motorcyclist. Safety is important. BTW, I am going up to Chiang Mae by Mbike soon.

    What about your accommodation did you have a hotel or Airbnb.

    • @JohnnyZeeLee
      @JohnnyZeeLee  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      On this trip I was staying in a hotel. On my upcoming trip, I’ll be staying at an Airbnb. You can find hotels for $80-$100 CAD per night and in my experience, I found them to be very kind to cyclists. If you are capable of visiting for one month or more, I recommend Airbnb just because it would be the better value.
