    As a canadian, i moved to Spain 15 yrs ago. What i like is no traffic lights, nivce hills, lots and lots of cafe, lots of restautants, plenty of small village, shoulders on all the roads, respect by the drivers, cycling almost every day except few days of rain, or wind or cold. I usually do between 80-90km with no traffic lights. Coffee latte is very simple but cheap. I live about 200km from Calpe but i have similar views and quiet roads. Like you i have done Japan, south korea, Thailand and few European countries, but Spain is still the best with plenty of roads, more than most countries.

    Hi Johnny, just found your videos, very enjoyable, I live and cycle around this area, agree about the Musette Cafe, it is probably the best coffee in the area.

    Once again, a grat video that will leave a lot of us salivating for a cycling trip away from winter. Amazing scenery and glad you found a good coffee shop, that's essential for a good life:)

      The owner of that coffee shop insisted that Calpe is a perfect destination in the winter! December/January the shop is full of pros 😃

    This is a remarkable video! Thank you so much!!!! Bucket list now !!! Can you talk about accomodation and cost? What about gravel riding in this region?

    • @JohnnyZeeLee
      @JohnnyZeeLee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got an Airbnb for 1 month for about $1700 CAD. I think that was very good value for what I got. It was a 1 br apartment steps away from the beach right in the city center…and I was able to find that even though I booked only 3 weeks in advance. Probably more options available if you plan in advance.
      I didn’t do any gravel riding but I know for sure there are many gravel roads, especially going up the mountains. I get the feeling that the gravel riding out there would be pretty epic!

      @@JohnnyZeeLee Great price for the accommodation. We will plan something in that region.

    Johnny, thanks for another location on my radar for next year. Truly awesome video content and narration. 👌 Btw wait till you see Andorra or Tenerife
    Edit: I had to comment about what youre saying with coffee, damn you echo exactly my feelings. 100% coffee isnt a big deal there, but you can find good coffee in Milan. There are some cool bike cafes. Try L'Eroica cafe in Milan if youre passing through

    • @JohnnyZeeLee
      @JohnnyZeeLee  ปีที่แล้ว

      Both Andorra and Tenerife are on my list 😃
      I did pass through Milan on this trip. I didn’t do any cycling. I was just checking to see how the cycling culture is. Still undecided. Have you cycled extensively in Milan? How are the roads? Is there a good cycling community there?

    Looks brilliant, a little brown like my home state of Colorado but still very nice. I've heard Spain is really affordable and especially for certain items that are more expensive in Thailand. Question is then, is Span a better option for a cyclist than Chiang Mai? Would be interesting to do a brake down and comparison.

    • @JohnnyZeeLee
      @JohnnyZeeLee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I honestly can’t think of anything that is cheaper in Spain than Thailand. While Spain may be more affordable than other countries in Europe, it’s still way more expensive than Thailand.
      If you just wanted the best cycling possible and cost wasn’t a factor, I would say it’s pretty clear, Spain is the better option. But when things like food and the community and of course cost starts to get factored in, it becomes more subjective.

    • @HairyPixels
      @HairyPixels ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnnyZeeLeeinteresting the cycling is so good. That doesn't seem totally apparent from the video. Drivers in Thailand make it worse? The humid weather maybe?

    • @JohnnyZeeLee
      @JohnnyZeeLee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HairyPixels the video was never really meant to be a comparison between Spain and Thailand….but
      Less pollution, roads that have amazing views everywhere, climbs that aren’t ridiculously steep, safer drivers, better weather, roads with minimal lights/intersections…this is why the cycling is better in Spain.
      I’m not hating on Thailand. Quite the opposite. There are still other considerations, at least for me when choosing a place to visit. For me, Thai culture and way of life suits me. It’s why I feel more comfortable here. Plus the cycling is still fantastic in Thailand but if we’re doing a direct comparison between these two countries specifically for cycling only, then yes, I think Spain is better.

      @JohnnyZeeLee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s interesting you say that. You’re from Germany? I think German drivers are the safest I’ve ever seen. I think the cycling is better in Spain but just from a safety perspective, German drivers are the best.
      Spanish drivers are good too but I feel like in Calpe, some of them are getting annoyed with cyclists.

    • @malwoanders
      @malwoanders ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnnyZeeLee Maybe there are too many cyclists in Calpe😉 And there are tourists with rental cars. I think when you go to Mallorca they are the worst. Glad you liked Germany, but I think you have been only in the south and it might be different in other regions. But in General it is nice to Ride a bike here.
      If you like the thrill Go to south Italy. I rode from sicily to switzerland this spring and hardly survived. Crazy, but worth it! (Best Coffee in the world)

    • @JohnnyZeeLee
      @JohnnyZeeLee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@malwoanders I actually do feel like the reason is because there are too many cyclists in Calpe. When I was in Valencia, the drivers were much more cautious.
      It’s true my experience in Germany is very limited but even when I was in the Dolomites, the German cars were always more careful than Italian ones. It was such a night/day difference.

    Did you wne up getting to Giona yet? I haven't been to calpe yet but do love Girona, on paper there is more variety - still very easy to get out of town. And definitely booming for cycling, pros and other wannabe pros /tourists

    What is the cost of living like there? Can you find short term apartments to rent (1-3 months)? How expensive is food?

    • @JohnnyZeeLee
      @JohnnyZeeLee  ปีที่แล้ว

      I found an Airbnb for 1 month for about $1700 CAD. I feel like it was good value because it was right in the city center and steps away from the beach.
      Long term rentals are definitely the way to go…if you have the time. It’s the most cost effective. Also, try to plan in advance as much as possible. Price for food is all over the place but you can certainly find meals for about 5-10 euros especially if you buy food from supermarket. I was really enjoying the paella from the market. Its only 5 euro.

    • @JohnnyZeeLee

      Of course having a lot of cyclists is great but sometimes I felt the frustration from drivers. It’s something I never felt in Valencia.
