    Dear Sanjay, I am from Argentina. I love your videos, this recipe is awesome. I used yogurt and egg, the naan was so soft! I think it was better than the one I tried in indian restaurants. Thank you very much for sharing!

    Unless you have a Tandoor, if you put it in a normal oven the Naan comes out like Pita Bread. BIG MISTAKE. I learnt my lesson. I cook Naan on the stovetop comes out much better.

    • @MaZEEZaM
      @MaZEEZaM 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      simmick1 It does work if you use a pizza stone or tile and preheat the stone in the oven before placing the Naan directly onto the hot stone. Also placing a piece of baking paper under your Naan not only reduces your chances of the Naan sticking (won't stick to stone) it also makes it easier to transfer your Naan onto the stone and removing it from the hot oven after cooking.😊

    I used this recipe, added an egg and eyeballed the milk to get that sticky dough. First tried to bake it in the top rack of the oven, it didn't work out for me. It didn't cook fast enough to retain that moisture before it became crisp. I don't have that sieve to make it on the stove, but what worked out was heating the Nana on a tava until both sides formed a white layer, and then holding the naan over a naked flame till it puffed and developed beautiful brown spots. This works really well, it's crispy on the outside and pull apart soft.
    Made this for lunch today with your butter chicken recipe, it was pretty good! First attempt at naan, and this was absolutely successful, thanks to you.

    Fantastic tutorial! I love watching your cooking videos because you are so good at explaining things so even a basic cook could understand the need for the recipe items (such as using yeast, what it is for, how it works, etc.) and you provide options or alternative ways to the recipe (like cooking the naan bread in the oven or stove top). My 22 year old son LOVES naan bread so much and wants to learn to make it at home. I will pass on your video and he will love it too. I wish you lived in our city and taught cooking classes so my family could come learn from you in person. Many thanks!

    I just made this naan. I only cooked 2 at a time, b/c I knew I would probably mess up the first couple- and that I did! I had my oven set to 550, but it was cooking them too slowly. So I set the broiler on hi and I burnt the next 2. I only had them in there for 1 1/2 minutes. So the next time i kept the oven open with my eyes on them and it took about a minute. But they turned out perfectly! I did have really sticky dough, I just kept adding flour and it turned out great! They are yummy!!

    For those who have flat top glass electric stoves, I have messed with a few alternatives if the wire mesh method doesn't suit the stove.
    The most successful mode of preparing naan I have tried is in a cast iron pan, either seasoned black and nice or just adding some oil. Make the dough like Sanjay, but when it comes time to cook, heat up your cast iron for a few minutes super hot, add some oil if needed, and lay it down nicely in the pan. Flip once. Should take about 1-2 minutes.

    You could also place the naan dough on unglazed quarry tiles or a pizza stone in a 500 degree F/260 degree C oven for 4-5 minutes. No need to flip the naan; it will puff up in the oven and settle down once you take it out.

    I have a tandoor at home but the best Naan I've made is in the Oven (go figure... ).
    Preheat a pizza stone for at least 30 mins (45 minutes is better) @ the highest oven setting. (the 30 mins is important - you can't just let the oven come up to temp and start cooking the naan - it won't work)
    Turn on the broiler, Slide out the rack, slap on the naan and cook. If the stone is heated properly, you won't have to flip the naan.
    Hot pizza stone below, broiler above - pretty close to a Tandoor.

    another alternative for electric stoves...take naan dough in hand wet both sides under the faucet and place on tava(girdle) flip the tava on the filament . The naan will stick to the tava due to the water and when it gets done, it will start peeling from the tava....dry roast the other side on a wire frame....

    Then it might be fried roti or naan; it's common in indian households to fry the roti bread which is left over from previous day/night and then garnish with spices or herbs. Alternatively you can make a fried roti from scratch as well, that would explain how the spices & onion seeds binded in it!

    its chaat masala. its sour and spicy, and just plain awesome. You can get it at any indian/pakistani grocery store for cheap, or you can order it from amazon if you're in the US.
