Being originally from Buffalo, I watched that game intensely . The biggest thing about the game was not JUST the foot in the crease but the no review call. It was the finals and the game went into the next morning due to it being a tie and they had review after review, and added period after period. (No penalty shots at that time.) Hours later came the foot in the crease shot and, what upset every Sabre fan really was--NOW they don’t do a review!??!? It was a total “we gotta finish this game somehow” thing and they rushed out the big red carpet and Stanley Cup so fast it just shocked everyone-even the arena fans. No review after all the other “questionable “ calls (on both sides) were done. The officials missed THE most important review just to finish the game. I really blame the hockey commissioner for rushing the ceremony just to be done with the very long game and season. Still don’t like Dallas or commissioner Gary. What a jerk.
For the Rocket, you loved him if you were a Canadiens fan, or you hated him if you weren't. There was actually an attempt by the Toronto Maple Leafs to acquire him, but that was unsuccessful. As for this incident, it cost Rocket the chance he had at winning an NHL scoring championship, which he was leading at the time of his suspension. Fellow Canadiens teammate Bernie "Boom Boom" would edge him out by one point on the last game of the regular season to become the league scoring champion.
I think they should put cameras on the ice, so plays can be reviewed, and at the VERY LEAST, they should HIGHLIGHT the puck so it's easier to see. (It's VERY EASY to lose track of the puck during the game.)
I remember watching that Hull goal in ‘99 and it being a very big deal when it happened. The ‘player in the crease’ rule was such a strict rule in those years, yet the call was missed in such an important game. The NHL changed the ‘player in the crease’ rule starting the next season because of the controversy.
99 is by far the worst call in a cup final. The blatantly changed the rule the following off season to retroactively prevent it from happening again and to justify the position of the league.
2004 game 7 Tampa bay vs calgary Flames. Game tied 3/3. Last minutes flames scored but refs called it back saying the puck didn’t cross the line. It did. Took years before the nhl admitted that it did cross the line. Cost the Flames the Cup that year. Bad, very, very bad call.
Hey, just watched all your hockey videos and I’m disappointed you don’t have more. Your quality and content is great. Even checked out your gaming page and enjoyed that too. I think it was SB Nation that turned me to you and I can’t complain. Was really surprised to notice you don’t have many subs. Keep it up, I really enjoy it. Your history of forward passing was pretty great and stuff I didn’t know or had seen anywhere else. I’d love to see a follow up to your stuff thrown on ice video only because I’m a detroit fan and Nashville throwing the catfish was apparently to make fun of us, so I hear, and was hoping you were going to mention it. And as a detroit fan I believe my team has contributed more to hockey and the nhl than any other team in the league so you should totally do a video on that. Quick example. The players association wouldn’t exist without Ted Lindsay of your Detroit Red Wings. #7 Anyways. Keep it up and I’m looking forward to your next one.
I'd Love to make a video about Ted Lindsay as he had a huge impact on the game, Thanks for your comment it means a lot! share my channel and keep on watching man it means so much!
You don’t have many subs but I LOVE your channel and honestly how great the videos are you seem like you should be one of the the hockey channels that have 25K+ subs like great vids man you’ll get there soon 100%
I think you forgot one big controversial call. During the 1987 fifth game of the Adam's Division final, opposing the Montreal Canadien and the Quebec Nordiques, Alain Côté scored a goal that will be refused by Kerry Fraser.
Now too be quite real, The Richard Riot will forever be a contraversial part of hockey's history... Did you forget about when Richard struck the linesman?! Look, I'm twenty three years old... and... I even know the name of the linesman who was hit by Richard... Cliff Thompson. Never miss all points just like those refs not missing the play😂
How about this controversial call: I think it’s 2000 or 2001 Stanley cup finals and Scott Steven’s tries to end Paul kariya’s career on the ducks home ice. Kariya passes the puck to his left wing and turns his head towards the same winger. About 4 seconds after the pass Scott Steven’s lays a massive hit on kariya as kariya was looking the other way. It was one of the dirtiest plays in the history of the Stanley cup finals and hockey itself. He clearly hit him while he didn’t have the puck and was looking the opposite direction and he did not even get a penalty. The ducks should have been playing the devils minus Scott Steven’s for at the minimum two games, the maximum five games in my opinion. If Steven’s is gone the ducks win their first championship the way the team and especially giguere was playing. But that play will forever go down in history because Steven’s thought he knocked him out for good, but kariya comes back and actually plays. The best part is he shoots a slap shot and beats Martin Brodeur a few minutes after the hit, classic moment. Check it out
I'm a knights fan myself but there is no reason to let in those 4 goals during the penalty. I mean, it was only five minutes and you let in 4 goals, that's just not good.
Look up linesman Leon Stickle and the 1980 Stanley Cup finals, game six. His bonehead non-offsides call cost the Flyers a legit shot at winning the cup.
You missed one of the major missed calls of NHL history: Mike Bossy's missed offside call in the 1980 finals against the Flyers. Bossy received a pass while offside and scores the game winning goal. NHL and referees admitted years after that they had missed that call.
Personally I feel the 1st one wasn’t really an issue I get how it might be controversial but all I’m saying is that the dude didn’t cup his hand over the puck (so that’s is not considered a hand pass) and it wasn’t directly to him more the player just swatted it away from his face and the defence could have picked up the puck
Ummm, you do realize that Kings-Leafs series was just the Conference Finals, right? No supposedly bad call “cost the Leafs the Cup”. They still would’ve had to beat the Habs next.
Adjusting for inflation as of this comment, Richards fine would be roughly $962 in today’s money. Way less than suspensions nowadays (if there is any lol)
2:26 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Pav-e-leski? Clam-bell? *facepalm*
Frank Bama in other vids he says Yvan coroner (cournoyer) and Bill Massersson (Masterton) just to name a few
Even if Gretzky got called in 1993 and ejected, and Toronto won the series, Montreal would have been too much for them
Great vid

4:13 how did he say Joe Pavelski
The Cool Kidz 67 😂😂
lol
Pavalevski is how he pronounced it.
And don't forget Clarence Clambell!
He mispronounces so, so many names in each video it's ridiculous lol "pavelevski"???

what about the 2004 calgary flames v tampa lightning
It wasn’t in. It was camera angle (parallax) second. It was a kick. Although I could see how you would think it was in

Not a controversy if its a legit call.

Joe Pavelevski 😂
Appreciate your channel and look forward to many more vids!
thanks i put alot of work into these videos so i appreciate that !
Love the videos! I am so surprised that someone as small as you makes such amazing content. You deserve 1,000 if not 50,000
thanks alot! these are the comments that keep me making content!
"this was Vegas chance to win the series" yeah...because Vegas totally didn't have a 3-1 series lead before that point. 😂😂😂
ye they decided to suck after game 4
The next year, they killed off a 5 minute power play against Vancouver
@@leafsfanforever2896 and still choked
against Dallas (more like the Stars catching fire than the Golden Knights collapsing, as Vegas outshot Dallas in the series)

Bro, you could make 1000 of these. Refs make these almost daily.

What about the flames and lightning no goal call or the bruins blues missed call in game 5 last year?
2004 game 6 non call in the third period. That was a controversial stanley cup finals.. this should of been mentioned
ah yes the great sharks player Joe Paveleski actual prnounciation is PAV-EL-SKI
99 is by far the worst call in a cup final. The blatantly changed the rule the following off season to retroactively prevent it from happening again and to justify the position of the league.
No Game 6 of the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals when a Gelinas no goal possibly cost the Flames a title?

number 5 was a goal because the play that put it in the use a stick
You deserve more subs. Amazing video.
What about the Accari tripping no call that lead to the Blues taking a 3-2 series lead?

Leafs wouldn't of got past the Habs in 93 for the cup. Lightning/ flames no goal in 04 is definitely a top one.
I'm a knights fan myself but there is no reason to let in those 4 goals during the penalty. I mean, it was only five minutes and you let in 4 goals, that's just not good.
Hey!!! The biggest travesty of truth and justice of all time.....2004 Tampa /Calgary . Game 6.....
I thought Richard got suspended for punching a ref and that's why the riots happened
That actually happened before this incident, but punching the ref was also a factor in his suspension
All I have to say is No Goal
If you let in 4 goals in 5 minutes then you should probably not be in the western conference final
Can’t blame that major on Refs. Vegas let in 3+ goals after dont blame teh refs and blame their shit penalty kill
the rocket punched a linesman that led to the riot not richard not the beat down that he laid on the player
Got something agains the Sharks??
Buffalo got robbed. No goal!
Look up linesman Leon Stickle and the 1980 Stanley Cup finals, game six. His bonehead non-offsides call cost the Flyers a legit shot at winning the cup.
to be fair for the vegas call.... vegas let in those goals.... lots of teams get 5 minute majors and dont let in that many goals
Where’s the oilers ducks series
Clarence Campbell is pronounced, "Cambull." Now, if you're from Youngstown, Ohio, it's pronounced, "Camel'! Go 'Guins!!!!

There you have it, #1 was the start of the Bruins/Canadiens rivalry; assault and battery committed by Richard.
What about Calgary vs Tampa in 2004 silly
I can't believe you only picked five.
Great video but I thought Richard got suspended because he beat up a ref. Still great video!
that is part of the story! he did that before he beat up Hal Laycoe in a different game. the fight with Hal Laycoe was the final straw for the league.
In the Slot lol thanks. Never knew that and I did a whole project on him lol.
