I still play ESPN NHL 2K5 to this day. IMO it, and it's NFL counterpart are the best sports games ever made. My only knock on the NHL game is that the Hartford Whalers aren't included in throwback uniforms. The Dallas Stars have throwbacks to the North Stars, Seals, & Barons. Avalanche have the Nordiques. Coyotes have the original Jets. Even the Flames have the Atlanta uniforms. You can even create teams and use the aforementioned throwback team logos. But for some reason the Whalers are not in the game in any way even though the Hurricanes recognize the Whalers on a regular basis even wearing their uniforms on special nights.
This was really well done. Clearly loads of research, and lots of time getting old game footage (I forgot those WCW Nitro inspired NHL 97 menus) I've been working on compiling all the features no longer in the EA NHL series, when I came across this gem of a video. Hope to see more from you brother.
Blew my freakin' MIND when I learned that NHL 94 had a Sega CD port. Now that's one game that doesn't need a CD version but it's GODLY anyways. I'm talkin' FMV power baby!
You missed 3 of my favorite hockey games, NHL Hitz, Hit The Ice & Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey (I think that’s what it was called) for N64. Those were more fun than the realistic games.
Great video but the Magnavox Odyssey wasn't a copy of Pong. Pong was a copy of an early Magnavox Odyssey and Atari got into legal trouble for that. We've got Ralph Baer (Odyssee designer) to thank for the video game industry. Pong and every game that came after is a result of what he started.

The nhl21 career mode with the cinematics remind me of either wwe shut your mouth or wwe 2008 with ecw. Its very basic stuff. i agree with what youre saying with ea dripfeeding modes and features and hope nhl 22 does better than skill trees and split dialog options.
the problem is, we complain a lot about non important things, then when ea fixes them, we just dont acknowledge it. we need to let them know the real problems. not just things we want
EA is currently in stagnant mode where their future games are, at their best boring, and at their worst terrible. It sucks really, because competition would mean a lot for them in a long run. I don't want EA to close its shops. I want then to improve constantly. And to do it would require another developer to compete against them.
Before NHL '94, EA was seen as a third rate sports publisher. Madden stunk in comparison to Tecmo Bowl, FIFA paled to Sensible Soccer, and Ken Griffey Jr. MLB blew any other baseball game out of the water. NHL 94 was so fast, so fun and had the viewpoint right that Brett Hull Hockey and even the Nintendo published hockey games looked embarrassing and slow in comparison to NHL 94, and gave EA brand loyalty, simply because NHL '94 was one of the best Genesis games. EA would likely be making endless Road Rash sequels of High Score Productions didn't hit NHL 94 out of the park
Dude...you gotta work on your audio balancing. One segment to the next has wildly different volume levels, and it's kind of obvious that your microphone (or audio environment) is kind of bad.
So I've learnt I need to play Blades of Steel!
I have nhl 21 on my ps5
Mario Lemieux hockey for sega and Wayne Gretzky 3D hockey for N64
I was surprised when neither Blades of Steel nor NHL Hitz were mentioned in the video.
No one ever talks about blades of steel 😔
Really enjoyed the video. Although I think the NHL Faceoff series deserves a mention.
Why did this channel stop. This is the best hockey content on youtube
Definitely has come a long way since I played hockey on Intellivision in the 80’s! Still would be fun!

Finally a longer history video from you. Love it
I love the long form content I'm happy y'all are enjoying it!
NHL Hitz, Wayne Gretzkys 3D hockey revolutionized the game!
This is a fantastically informative video. Great job.
Love the intro bud
thanks! I love it too!

7:11 i like that *_Vancouver Canucks_* jersey: The Pittsburgh & Boston jerseys are pretty decent too.
Love your vids!
Thank you!
I love this TH-cam Channel now
The king has returned 👑
Excellent video with some great research & insight. You should do a video ranking the best hockey game on each console next!
Do the history of ice hockey cards
ooo thats a good idea!
The magnavox odyssey actually came out a year before Pong!
Another great video, keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
Blades of Steel is my all time favorite NES game, the most perfectly balanced sports game where the goalie isnt AI controlled
In nhl 2004 you could also play européen team from shl ,sm liiga and del
Another fire upload 🔥
Another fire comment 🔥

A little fun fact: NHL 2004 on PC has an INSANE modding community, and it's being given roster updates every 2 months. Check it out!
EA give this man a sponsorship!!!
NHL 21 be a pro seems like a training video for current players who play this game
Yooooooooo she’s out!!!!!!
But amazing video man I love it
0 dislikes *as it should be*
Shouldn't Blades of Steel by Konami and Mutant League Hockey By EA, be on here? They were the 2 games I played a lot from that time..
Yeah Blades of Steel was best NES hockey game and best until Genesis/SNES
Ea hockey i played it hours and hours with my brother🥰🥰
Whats the song used in the intro song? Love the channel!
They were able to make chel for pc in 1994 but they cant in 2020.
Preach!
What about Blades of Steel????
Best Blades Of Steel game is on the N64. NHL Blades Of Steel 99.
Blades of Steel on NES was better.
You missed 3 of my favorite hockey games, NHL Hitz, Hit The Ice & Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey (I think that’s what it was called) for N64. Those were more fun than the realistic games.
How can you forget about blades of steal by kanomi

Does Backyard Hockey count?

Go Hartford Whalers 🐳... I miss them so much; even though the Wolf Pack 🐺are great its just not the same 🐳
Please come back
I'm back lol
And 2 Others Game Videos
Do the history of ice skates please
there were 3rd jersey's in nhl 96 snes . and hasek never being on the cover is a joke, literally 1 or2nd best of all time

We’re not gonna be fucking suck next year
the problem is, we complain a lot about non important things, then when ea fixes them, we just dont acknowledge it. we need to let them know the real problems. not just things we want
U forgot telcaster hockey video game from 1972
Who could've won the Stanley cup if the lockout didn't happen?
Man where’s nhl 2 on 2 lol
I want to jump in a play a game. All of the custom stuff is over the top. It’s a distraction to me.

No love for nhl hitz
Odd that you mention every system each game released on, except for titles where you just quietly ignore the existence of SEGA Saturn.
