    Normal color profile is great enough❤

  • @EbbFlowe
    @EbbFlowe 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

    Thank you for all of your testing Ahn!
    I feel like based on these test runs, it sort of boils down to:
    -Normal Color is for when you just don't want to bother with grading at all. I think it's most useful for when you intend to upload your footage to social media as soon as you take it.
    -D-Log M with the DJI LUT is basically attempting to get you to a more or less "normal" color profile. But the difference is that you have more flexibility to apply other LUTs or grade it to your own tastes
    -HLG is EXTREMELY saturated and dramatic looking, which if used selectively could be pretty cool. The HLG footage gives a more "cyberpunk" look to the footage. But you have to know that's the look you're going for in advance.
    I think the second batch of footage is all very good, but heavily dependent on what you want from your footage. You can use Low-Light if you basically want to have everything fully lit and visible as if it's daytime, Manual settings for if you want to still preserve the feeling of actually being nighttime, and Auto is somewhere in between. I did find Auto and Low-Light to be a little too bright though, especially with the snow mist filter making every light glow that much more. But in the end I think the biggest point is that all of this footage is GOOD! Very little noise, even in Full Auto or Low-Light. Whatever you want your footage to look like, it seems like you can achieve it with the Pocket 3.
    In regards to 10 Bit/Normal Colors, YES! You can get 10 Bit with Normal Color, but it's all about the "Video Compression" Setting. As long as it's set to HEVC instead of of H.264, Normal Color will result in 10 Bit footage. I believe as of firmware update 01.02.06.04, you'll notice that Normal Color also has the yellow "10bit" tag on it too in the selection menu as long as you're in HEVC mode to clear up the confusion. You'll also notice that if you're already in D-Log M and try to change the Video Compression setting, you actually cannot select H.264.

    I used the Freewell Snow Mist filter on the Osmo Pocket 3 on the Low Light setting to film a wedding reception on Saturday and I'm fairly pleased with how it turned out. The blooming of the bright lights gave it a dreamy effect and the image was quality was fine. The clients will be happy and I'm very glad to have this tool in my arsenal. And yes, learn DaVinci Resolve. I've been using it ever since I got my first Blackmagic Pocket 4K and never looked back. Using the "Color Space Transform" tool on it changed everything for me

    • @TravelingAhn
      @TravelingAhn  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, thank you for the little push to get over FCP! The "Nodes" in DaVinci seem to scare me a bit :P

    • @smalltowncritic1
      @smalltowncritic1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TravelingAhn Yeah I don't love the nodes but there are plenty of tutorials out there on the TH-cams that can give you some basic tips for getting started with them. I don't get fancy with them at all. Just mainly use them as separate adjustments so if I have to delete one, I'm not beginning again from scratch. The experts who use big trees of them to do crazy detail color grading, masking and SFX still mystifies me but if you need to learn how to do something very specific, you can always find a quick tutorial

    • @TravelingAhn
      @TravelingAhn  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's true, the sheer amount of cool things you can do on DaVinci seems much better than FCP. But yeah, I just have to sit down and make time to learn it!

    • @smalltowncritic1
      @smalltowncritic1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TravelingAhn I learned FCP first many years ago. The transition wasn't that difficult. I forced myself to do it though because I wanted the benefit of the Blackmagic RAW which was well worth the effort

      Good motivation!!

  • @timbrowntown
    @timbrowntown 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hi Adam! I have the K&F Concept Black Diffusion 1/4 Filter, which was the only one I could get fairly quickly and it was also only $20. I think it looks good (some videos to drop soon once they are edited), but the only thing is that it is so thin that every once in a while (maybe 1 out of 10 times), the filter doesn't catch and the gimbal closes completely and you have to push it out with your fingernail and shimmy it out from behind the lens. I think I could probably put a small amount of glue or something on the edge to give it a little more thickness to avoid this or I could return it. So, out of these tests, I think I liked the one where you set the EV to -.7 and ISO to 50-1600 with D-Log M but I'm wondering what it would have looked like in Normal color with that setting in lowlight because the normal colors almost looked better than the D-Log M (in lowlight--in good lighting it's D-Log M all the way). I think I'll reservere the low-light setting for only when it's almost pitch black and my normal settings won't work.

    • @TravelingAhn
      @TravelingAhn  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Tim, looking forward to your video drop and how the black diffusion looks. Yeah, I like the same one with the iso 50-1600. I concur with you the normal color in manual mode looks pretty impressive. If we do have to use the "low-light" mode we can go into the manual settings and tweak it a little.

    • @timbrowntown
      @timbrowntown 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TravelingAhn the issue I have with lowlight is that the contrast is super high, which isn't good for skin tones. Every pore, freckle and wrinkle is accentuated.

    • @TravelingAhn
      @TravelingAhn  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, I do not recall, but I usually keep the EV at -0.3 to -0.7 in most cases if I have "Auto ISO" enabled. Regarding the sharpening and noise reduction, I've just followed the suggestions of more experienced out there that keep the sharpness at -2 and noise reduction at -1. I'm still working on gaining an experienced "Eye" on seeing the differences.

    just looking at the background HLG seems sharper than D-Log-M, but then if you watch the lantern on the left in HLG 5:13 it's really bright red and oversaturated and your face is orange. ... i think D-Log-M with color calibration is much easier to manage. also the mist filter is nice it's just that the diffusion (dreamy look) is a bit strong. I'm waiting for someone to release a 1/8 strength version. What i would to see being tested is a 'walk and talk'' ... ( during the day with lots of light.) with tracking and without. -- i've noticed that auto tracking seems to be excellent when stationary with a tripod but when used in selfie mode the background is super smooth but what's being tracked (the vloggers face) tends to jump around in a lot of videos I've seen on youtube. ... maybe it's the settings? maybe it's the speed mode of the gimble? ... what I've also noticed on other videos is a disappointing amount of stutter when panning. .... but then other peoples videos are buttery smooth. so i don't know what they're doing to get it all stuttery. ... your videos seem to be very good in that regard.

    • @TravelingAhn
      @TravelingAhn  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I agree on the HLG issue for sure. D-Log seems to be the way to go. I also agree with the Snow Mist Filter being a bit too strong. I'm not too sure about the walk and talk with the face tracking situation. I did slow down my Gimbal speed when controlling it myself, however, I believe that when it auto-tracks your face the speed is a default speed that cannot be controlled unless they come out with a new firmware update.

    • @adz-ql6kv
      @adz-ql6kv 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      ok interesting about there being a default tracking speed. ... it must be why the function is unavailable in slomo mode. ... well, i just did a quick search and already i'm seeing black and white mist filters for the pocket 3 in 1/8 strength popping up on websites... but so far only from some obscure 3rd party manufacturers that i've never heard of before@@TravelingAhn
