    Thanks for dropping by everyone! Despite its shorter length - this documentary took me a ton of time to put together. I kept finding more interesting things like old demos, discarded concepts, and tweaks that could be made in the hammer editor to help explain what I was talking about more clearly.

    Memories of watching my dad play Half Life when i was a kid are memories i won't forget. After he beat it,i would sit in his lap and play with him in a way. Basically i would just press the jump button and he would do the shooting. I remember being terrified of the Nihilanth,so much so i cried when it said "Freeeeeman". Years later i started playing on my own and eventually the rest of the series. It's a special franchise to millions across the world. While i won't be able to play Alyx anytime soon since i can't afford a vr headset or a good pc for that matter,i still look forward to seeing Half Life alive once again.

I got Half life because it looked awesome in 1998, but I KEPT playing it for years because of CS. When i went to college in 1999, I met other CS players, but I'd say over half of them had never even played the Half Life campaign, the only reason they even got the game was for CS. Id say a free mod was the reason for half of Half Life's sales.

    When I got my first ever copy of Half-Life on CDROM it blew my mind, I thought "it can't get better than this" then something happened with the discs, what I don't remember, but I had to contact Sierra Studios and a few days later I got a letter and a hand written CD-R with all the patches too that been relased to that point and a brand new copy of Half-Life. Sadly I had to leave that behind me when I had to move from one end of the UK to another.

    "Barely any code intact" - ah yes, needing minimal code change when you move mods from one game to another including models, packages, code, sprites, textures, you name it

    Yes, Alyx is the first killer VR game, however, it's still a niche gaming genre. Gamers aren't sold on VR yet and there aren't many quality games out there to warrant buying the gear to play it
    I only played the game fairly recently because my cousin kept pestering me and actually loaned me the VR gear
    It was an amazing experience. Valve just seemed to be showing off - "Yeah, we make games at a glacial pace, but here's another masterpiece to hold you over for the time being"

      He was only made "Kleiner" in HL2. The character did not exist until then. Therefore the quote can not be applied retroactively to him.

    In IT history, years are precious and short. This is an amazing example how a supremely excellent game company turned into an fatcat online platform mogul. And, perhaps surprisingly, I'm very glad they did that! Steam will preserve 'our' PC gaming legacy in a way that was not possible before. Thanks for keeping the memories alive. This is history in the making. And Half-Life was great, BTW... :-)

    And if u could Mario would be good

    • @Nick930
      @Nick930  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Due to Konami's stranglehold on video content of Metal Gear Solid and the massive undertaking of a "Mario" documentary, I'm saving those for when I reach specific fundraising goals in Patreon. Simply too much time and effort would be required to have to rely solely on ad revenue. But it's certainly something I'd like to do.

    Why Valve never made Half-Life 3:
    It became something too overwhelming and large for them to handle due to the pressure of it from the community, every single other Half-Life game revolutionized the industry and they didn't know how or if it would, Marc Laidlaw who wrote the original story of Half-Life released Epistle 3 which was going to be the plot for Half-Life 3 and the community has decided it would make it themselves with Boreal-Alyph and Project Borealis, plus based on the ending of Half-Life: Alyx, Valve intends on making Half-Life 3 based on the new timeline made by Erik Wolpaw who wrote Half-Life: Alyx's story which I believe he did that so that there would be somewhat of a clean slate when writing the story of Half-Life 3 by using Marc's story and adding in his own touch.
