Rahul Sar yea sure Bethesda is great with gameplay. I love and am completely satisfied with 76. And 4 isn’t just a shitty copy paste with minor upgrades. Nah they’re on a roll.
After having recently played both Fallout 1 & 2 for the first time I gotta say they didn't age nearly as well as Baldur's Gate did for example which I did play on release. Even for people that only recently got hooked on more modern "c"rpgs like Pillars of Eternity or Pathfinder the old BG titles are pretty easy to grasp mechanically whereas Fallout's controls almost appear arcane in comparison. Of course their recent remastering didn't hurt in that regard either. All that said I personally regard New Vegas as my favorite Fallout game by far with Fallout 2 & 3 vying over a distant second place. Sure, the original games and Fallout 2 especially were really good games for the late 90s but if you haven't had the chance to enjoy them back then they simply don't invoke the same feelings. At any rate, after the colossal train wreck that was Fallout 76 and the recent resurgence of crpgs maybe Bethesda will license the franchise back out to Obsidian again for a new isometric Fallout. One can hope? At this point that might be the only way for them to save their sacred Brahmin.
Thanks for being mostly neutral (if not completly) and not starting to bash Bethesda or the older games and just stating facts. Overall it was nice to watch
Not excited for fallout 76. I don't care about online, I don't like NPC's absence, I don't like the "mobile" settlement system, I don't like the idea to launch a freakin warhead during nuclear apocalypse, like why would you do that?? So silly. But at the same time, you can't just do another regular fallout 5, it would be just the same thing as fallout 4. Anyway, great video. I love these so much!
76 is more like a spin-off like shelter. 5 will be offline single player along with separate multiplayer if they are planning to implement 76 into 5. So 76 is like a test model in my opinion.
Jacob Douglas what? The nukes in 76 are actual war heads, mini nukes cause a small explosion. Also just because they don't like the idea of mobile settlements doesn't make them a hypocrite. If anything your the reason the community is toxic
I hate how everyone is always trying to pick favorites and divide the community. I love all the Fallout games for different reasons. Some do some stuff better than others, original fallouts had great role playing. Fallout tactics had great combat. 3 and NV were great open world next gen RPGs with great combat. 4 had great visuals, characters, gameplay, and 76 even had a few great moments. Pros and cons for each game. But as a whole, they make up the great fallout franchise we all know and love
Jus going back through your documentaries and wow brother, your work is amazing , thank you for this and the rest , and I haven't/won't play 80% of the games you've covered but love watching... Definitely subbed 💯❤️
You've done it again dude! Wish list of series that I think would make great History-Of videos: Mass Effect, Call of Duty, Resident Evil, Sonic The Hedgehog, Grand Theft Auto, and the history of Point & Click adventure games in general (please please please, I realize this may not have the view count of other series, but there's no end-all video on this and the recent release of bitmap books' The Art of Point and Click Adventure Games would be a great resource) ❤️
Excellent suggestions! But I do have a few already planned, specifically to align with upcoming game releases. So there's a few in your list that while I'd love to do them, will have to wait until my schedule clears up. As for the point-and-click video, that sounds like a cool idea, but I'd need to do a lot of prep work ahead of time, like actually having access to the full history of point and click games... and there's a TON of them. Great suggestions though!
Bethesda: "How do we take an already amazing franchise and make it better" EA: "How do we take an already amazing game studio and make it worse" Anyway, the thing about Fallout is you cant make multiple within a few years, it just wouldnt work the same way. To make a good Fallout game there has to be time in between a release. Even if Fallout 76 was the best Fallout game objectively, people would've still hated it. What makes Fallout S.P.E.C.I.A.L is that like you said, it's an event when a new release comes out (not saying they arent good, they are some of the best games of all time). After NV and 3 Fallout became this almost sacred icon. Whenever Bethesda even hinted at another Fallout people stopped to listen. But now, when they released 76, it didnt have the same excitement to it as other games in the series. The bugs arent the only reason its bad, it just isnt Fallout anymore. Even NV, like you said, was able to overcome all the glitches and bugs to become a fan favorite game, but even after Bethesda has patched the glitches, and the bugs are long gone people will still look back on it with a sour taste in their mouth. I know this is a long comment, but it's coming from a saddened fan, sad to see Bethesda fall so far from grace and one of my favorite game franchises' names pulled through the mud. I find myself watching the e3 reveals for 76 and 4 because it makes me happy reminiscing that, at one point, Bethesda was still a very well respected and prestigious game studio. To be a true Fallout game you need a few core essentials. Heavy emphasis on exploration, great story, fun gameplay, and, most importantly, a true love and understanding of the series. Bethesda has shown that they do have a true love, a true love for money. Thank you.
What a great comment The Karp King. I'm really sad at the way Fallout 4 and 76 turned out. I know Fallout 4 has alot of fans but the game felt so shallow with the role playing. The map was great, the shooting was improved, but it didn't feel like Fallout to me. I love and replay the first 4 Fallout rpg's but haven't touched Fallout 4 for years.
0:36 I think that is a reference to a hitchhikers guide to the galaxy , where a whale and a flowerpot appear out of thin air above Magrathea [a planet where the people build other planets] and there is a funny scene then it ends with the whale cratering.
Bravo! Showing that most Fallout Games are Basically the same! A combination of side quests and a main quest was a refreshing reminder that game really hasn't changed and companions really only served as Pack Mules and an extra (inaccurate) shot during combat.
@@manlymantis101 ah. Yeah but it's best to wait. I hope not tho. Lol 3 was ok. Nv was decent. 4 was.... well more shooter with rpg elements. Anyway I agree the lore and freestyle narrative in fo 1 and 2 were great. 3 tried but it felt empty in some ways. Wow I'm rambling. Sorry lol. But those are my thoughts on it.
Fallout 76 has already killed the series. The moment the devs turn their eyes to multiplayer, it's over. Just look at Call of Duty, Battlefield, GTA, Mass Effect, the list goes on.
New Vegas is my favorite by far, but there are things I like about each main series Fallout game. Fallout 1 is just an utter classic and atmospheric masterpiece, Fallout 2 had great RPG elements, Fallout 3 was good for freeroaming and atmosphere, 4 had some pretty nice ideas when it came to gameplay innovations. I just hope that Bethesda manages to get back on track with the series and combines the greatest strengths of each games for future titles, rather than going with what's most popular. If they don't I hope that Obsidian and maybe some other developers can pick up the torch and create a good spiritual successor.
I haven't played it yet, but maybe The Outer Worlds is that spiritual successor. I also agree about New Vegas; an all time classic. But emulating old games through sequels will never present us with something truly revolutionary.
As a gen z gamer, I downloaded fallout 1 for free on Epic Games and tried it, and damn it's quite brutal and hard to strategize, but I'm still captivated by the gameplay and how people play such games that time.

I love Fallout 3, New Vegas, and even 4. The only problem that I really have with 4 is how easily it crashes in places like Boston. I've had to restart my game a few times to keep playing it. I've never been able to finish it.
FO 3 and NV were my jam! Only games besides STALKER which I immediately started again after I'd finished them. It was all about the mods. At the time of FO4 I didn't have a viable PC for it, but I do now so I can finally catch up.
I know i'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but Fallout 4 was the best imo. I just love the whole atmosphere the game creates - the visuals and especially the soundtrack. Amazing :)
I had hopes. That someone would find a way, be the one......too merge google maps, with a fallout filter. And leave it open source for development. fallout infinity :)
right on 1 is the best but doesn't translate well to newer modern gamers. We can forgive graphics and ect. and turn based grid combat is a fav of mine but is not received to well now adays. 2 was awesome still, tactics was fun but calling it fallout is a bit of a slap to the face, fallout brotherhood of steal was fun but i felt it didn't quite hit the mark in the fallout universe. fallout 3 was actually really good but the story was def lack luster fallout NV was amazing especially considering it was made so quickly and by the original fallout team that was not a part of fallout 3 i forgive its bugginess but is definitely much better played now then on release. fallout 4 is fun but dumbed down yet ran allot smoother.... fallout 76.... i refuse to play it lol.
To this day, even with the release of FO4 & the touch up of FO76.. I still gravitate towards the 3 & NV but then again I play old games in general, Hitman Blood Money, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Saints Row 2 & so on
People just want something to bitch about when they talk down on Fallout 4. Your description was spot on though. Yes it suffered from a less engaging story line, but the advancements in all other aspects of the game dwarf that complaint, as it is a remarkably good game that does stay true to the originals. People just need to mellow out and be happy with the amazing advancements in the engine, and be happy that much of it is going to benefit not only future Fallout games, but future Elder Scrolls games as well. I think we can all just agree though they need to hire the Obsidian guys to write the next installment, since Fallout 76 is basically going to be F4 with people.
or just maybe it was boring cause there are no consequences of your actions in fallout 4 its literally a fps has next to no rpg elements we bought fallout 4 for a rpg with fps involved not a fps with a side of rpg
I respect your opinion but I hate Fallout 4. But it does have alot of good things. The map is great for exploring. The shooting and being able to recycle stuff is great. But for me the role playing is what's most important and unfortunately F4 fails in that regard. Great game just not for me.
Barth Slung I agree with despite all of their bugs. You don’t understand how many games I had to restart in FO4 bc of the fucking bug on the Molecular Level Quest.
I haven't played the first two, got into the series from Fallout 3 (not a PC gamer) I would love for a HD collection of the first two games for Xbox Series.
Fallout has come far, I've always had fun with their games. They might have been falling game by game, but new vagas and 3 will always have special place.
Fallout: New Vegas, 3, 2 and 1 are some of my favorite games of all time. I love the console Dark Alliance games, so I might pick up Brotherhood for cheap one day.
Fallout 2 and Fallout New Vegas are definitely in my top five of all time. Fallout 1 and fallout 3 are definitely in my top my top 20. Fallout 4 is definitely in my top 50
Fallout 1: where's the water chip? Fallout 2: where's the enclave? Fallout 3: where's my dad? Fallout NV: where's the platinum chip? Fallout 4: where's my son? Fallout 76: where's my refund?
The amount of hate Fallout 4 gets is insane. Like nobody appreciates what Bethesda has done with that game. The gameplay mechanics are the best they ever have been for a Fallout game. Yeah there’s some RPG elements and narrative lacking but overall superb game. The only gripe I had about the story was it like Fallout 3 was too close ended unlike Fallout NV. Also, the DLC was cool but I wanted more and there was a total missed opportunity with the memory den using the SS’s memories of his time in the army. But overall Fallout 4 was a solid 9/10.
Would have loved to play a tactical Fallout 3. I love the new style of games, they're definitely appealing but an updated graphics system with that style of gameplay is an idea that always facinates me for Fallout. Like there's an alternate reality where that released instead of the Fallout 3 we have, and I'd love to play it.
@@realism8796 It's still kind of sad they sold it at full price for so long given how buggy it was. Plus the buying loot boxes with real money was awful. As soon as I heard that 76 was an MMO I knew it was going to be bad. It may have gotten better, but it will never be as good or even close to 3, New Vegas, or 4 (well some parts of 4). I honestly think Bethesda is a sinking ship at this point and has run out of ideas since they use the same engines over and over with all their games. Plus the Bethesda games have always bugs. Mostly amusing, sometimes actually useful (the horses in Skyrim bieng able to climb down straight drops for one). But the 76 bugs made it almost unplayable, and removing NPC's was a killer. I know they've added them back, but it just doesn't have the soul of the original titles.

“If you were into Fallout 4’s end game content, then Fallout 76 should be a no brainer.” Well I enjoyed that endgame so I’m in. This is a spin-off after all so I’m going in with set expectations. Plus we’re getting Starfield after this.
The detail about the vaults actually being made for experiments on humans was something that was retconned into the lore with 2 or 3, not something that was established in 1, if memory serves me correctly.
Jeeee, I already lost track after Fallout Tactics, after watching Interplay's future plans for this game they totally didn't know what they want to do. And Fallout 3 was the best thing that happened to the series.
@@douglasweiss5583 no, I mean F3, because F1 & 2 are the best hands down (I like better the first one I felt rushed the 2nd not very polished, and have many bugs) BUT after there was a HUGE gap and it looked like Fallout games such a layer games not popular anymore. But F3 save the day and Fallout got the respect it deserved. Fallout Survived because times maybe changes but war... war never changes.
Fallout 2 and tactics were my favourite. Fallout 2 for its story and slightly more immersive gameplay but tactics for straight up guerilla warfare. The ability to have spotted an enemy from stealth and then set your squad up for an ambush was great fun
I would be quite fine with fallout 76's existence if Bethesda simply said it was not cannon, but since they are so intent on trying to justify their "completely reasonable" lore changes it is clear what F76's place is in cannon
Shawn Taylor Ghouls not needing food or water, X-01 being in pre war locations, jet being pre war, the children of atom being all the way up in far harbor ( And the hubologists being in Nuka world is pretty ridiculous too). Those are just the ones off the top of my head i’ve read lists and watched videos that point out all of them, and it really shows how bad of a job the writers did.
Been playing the beta for 76. I cannot wait for the release. Its a lot better than I would have ever guessed. I still wish they would add some npc's. But the game so far is great.
I want Fallout 1 and 2 rebuilt in the new style. Fallout 1 and 2 are basically unplayable nowadays due to being so far removed from modern video game design concepts. They're from the experimental era of the late 90's, and a lot of design concepts from that era just did not work well.
Not gonna lie. I was a Baldurs Gate baby but after I played Fallout 3 I became fascinated with the premise and lore. I need to play Fallout 1 and 2 asap.
I'm genuinely so confused at how many videos say they're going to discuss the history of Fallout and instead spend most of their time talking about the Production of the games.
fallout: I need to get the water chip, so i can save my vault! fallout 2: I need to get the G.E.C.K. to save my village! fallout 3: OKAY WHERE THE HECK IS MY DAD fallout New vegas: IM THE FRIKKIN MAILMAN AND WHO THE HECK SHOT ME Fallout 4: Yay i’m gonna find my son! fallout 76: WE WANTED A BETTER GAME AND YET YOU GIVE US THIS TODD. WHY?
This was a great retrospective video on the franchise. I started with Fallout 3 and have enjoyed every entry so far, even Fallout Shelter. But sadly not interested in Fallout 76 because of the online focus. I only want single player content. Hard to pick a favorite Fallout, but i'd probably go with New Vegas. It took the foundation of Fallout 3 and added more to it. Also had a more interesting story.
Fallout 1, 2 and New Vegas>Fallout 3, 4 and 76. Such an awesome Franchise under the Obsidian Crew (AKA all involved under Obsidian and its og names Interplay and Black Isle). So many great things under the Obsidian Crew, Offline and Singleplayer gameplay, Great writing, Real NPCs like the memorable and great Dogmeat and Rex, strong RPG mechanics and Meaningfull dialogue choices among others. Cant wait till Wasteland 3 to keep my Genuine Fallout fix going.

Great in depth video, you did your research sir.
Thanks for being mostly neutral (if not completly) and not starting to bash Bethesda or the older games and just stating facts. Overall it was nice to watch
You always preduce quality videos. Keep up the great work m8.
@@mrjaked420 you're a fucking idiot

I hate how everyone is always trying to pick favorites and divide the community. I love all the Fallout games for different reasons. Some do some stuff better than others, original fallouts had great role playing. Fallout tactics had great combat. 3 and NV were great open world next gen RPGs with great combat. 4 had great visuals, characters, gameplay, and 76 even had a few great moments. Pros and cons for each game. But as a whole, they make up the great fallout franchise we all know and love
3 and NV had "great combat"?

History of The Elder Scrolls!!
Bethesda: "How do we take an already amazing franchise and make it better"
EA: "How do we take an already amazing game studio and make it worse"
Anyway, the thing about Fallout is you cant make multiple within a few years, it just wouldnt work the same way.
Really enjoying this history series you do. Great work!
Bravo! Showing that most Fallout Games are Basically the same! A combination of side quests and a main quest was a refreshing reminder that game really hasn't changed and companions really only served as Pack Mules and an extra (inaccurate) shot during combat.
Just in time to celebrate the end of the series.

Lots of people think that fallout 76 will kill the series.
@@manlymantis101 ah. Yeah but it's best to wait. I hope not tho. Lol 3 was ok. Nv was decent. 4 was.... well more shooter with rpg elements. And Im personally not a fan of the top down isometric style. But I do see their appeal. Wait is Diablo isometric cause I enjoy those.
@@tudythegangster ...battlefield has always been multiplayer focused...

Great game just not for me.

they have improved the fallout shelter gameplay a lot, I find it a lot more interesting and now you can actually go on quests and meet other survivors
The majority of the DLCs were workshop add ons and there are WAY too many lore contradictions
You right fallout 4 prolly the best tbh I like it alot more then 76 and fallout 3

Would have loved to play a tactical Fallout 3. I love the new style of games, they're definitely appealing but an updated graphics system with that style of gameplay is an idea that always facinates me for Fallout. You mean New Vegas ?
Fallout Tactics was great. I really liked that game but it's not a rpg.
You mean Fallout 2 of course. Hit the ground running with the first 2 games.

I want Fallout 1 and 2 rebuilt in the new style. Fallout 1 and 2 are basically unplayable nowadays due to being so far removed from modern video game design concepts. They're from the experimental era of the late 90's, and a lot of design concepts from that era just did not work well.
