I traded in my Prius for a Yaris Cross, something I regret. The Prius had park assist, parking sensors front, rear and at the sides, so if reversing blind from say a supermarket car park and unable to see if there is anything coming the sensors would let me know. With the Prius I could slowly drive up to or reverse up to, say a wall and the brakes would apply themselves when I got to within 2/3 inches. I found with the Yaris that putting my left foot on the foot rest as it is not needed with an automatic car, I rested my left knee against the central console, this is very hard, I would hate to take it on a long trip. The main advantage the Yaris Cross has over the Prius is that I can open and close the boot with the key fob.
I rented this car recently for a small road trip. On the highway at 120km/h I found it to be quite unstable, especially when overtaking large trucks. Also there was a lot of wind noise at highway speeds. Driving the car almost felt like pushing a sheet of plywood through the air.

I've driven the MiTo once, when it came out around 2008/9. Probably it was a turbo petrol. I can't remember. I've never even sat in once since then, and I've seen very few on the road. But as far as I can tell the Fiat diesels are pretty reliable, if maintained correctly.
Basically you don’t think anything is really good 😂😂😂 I have a Panda 4x4 which I do remember you enjoyed. Me too. I’ve never kept a car so long in my life and I’m 71
Panda 4x4 is brilliant! This is nothing like the Panda 4x4 (unfortunately), but I understand you may be looking for a bit more comfort and luxury, so an upgrade like this makes sense. I wish VW made electric or hybrid T-Cross. It's so much more car.
To be honest not looking to replace it, as it does everything I need in a second car and the roads in Italy where I live are appalling!! Also the cost of replacing it these days is crazy. I like your channel so watch everything 👍🏻
Hello Marek, your reviews are always helpful! I´m trying to do a shortlist of hybrids B crossovers (max: 30.000€) for my girlfriend. From the ones you tested or know about what are the ones that you would highlight? Thank you.
Thanks for the review. How will you compare this to the Jazz EHev ? Very similar type of car at similar prices. I found the Yaris cross to be unrefined in terms of drivetrain, but rode better compared to the Jazz. Jazz is a nicer car to live with for me.
The Jazz is a much nicer car, but even in the Crosstar version it doesn't have the Yaris Cross' ground clearance (if that's what you're after). Honda has more space for rear passengers, and I think their magic seats make up for the smaller boot.

One of the best reviewers on TH-cam. With all the small crossovers you drive which is the most comfortable/quiet, I spend up to 8 hours a day in the car and was looking at the T-cross but haven’t driven it yet. Any thoughts. Thanks.
The new Mokka (in higher trim) was remarkably quiet, albeit not the best thought-out. The T-Cross is a good all-rounder (just get the 1.5 with DSG, not the 1.0 manual). I like its practical interior, sliding rear bench, etc.
Thats a very good review and has helped me. Im in UK, but looking for a car for Spain, as l live part time there. This car came onto my radar just a few days ago, but your review has made me discount it already! Im looking at Kia Stonic, Hyudai Bayon and Kona, but can't decide! I need an auto and im attracted by the long warranties that Kia and Hyundai have. I was also considering the Ford Puma, but it only has a 24 month warranty in Spain, apparently! It must be an auto, whichever car I decide on. Which would you choose?
I have no experience with Ford, as they haven't been speaking to me in the last 3 years or so (apparently I don't like their cars enough). As far as Hyundai/KIA are concerned, they are basically the same. In Poland KIA gets longer warranty than Hyundai (7 vs. 5). If it's the same in Spain, it may help you make a choice. However I would advise to read the fine print, as some components may not be covered during the entire 7/5 year warranty period.
@@MarekDrives Thanks for the reply. Yes, basically the same company. One gives 7 years with 3 years roadside and the other 5 years of both, which is a bit strange given they are the same company. I can't believe Ford only give a 2 year warranty - it just doesn't make the car competitive for a private buyer. Funny they don't talk to you for 3 years - that's very childish of them.
Nice looking car. I had a couple of test drives in the Cross. Round town fine but the rear view camera is low resolution and the guide lines don't move! Seriously, 2021 my wife's 5 year old Jazz has a better system. The overall noise levels killed it for me wind, tyre and engine given the price and competition.
Wait, this aint Belgium :-) Wrote the comment as soon as I saw belgian number plates -) Car looks nice, btw and the review is as always detailed enough. Cheers
@@MarekDrives This car is all about consumption and you spent about 5 seconds talking about it. Also i would like to see a demonstration of the 4 wheel drive capabilities of the car (i don't think this car is all about boot space). Interior space for the front passengers (in relation to the hatchback). Manual version of the car. How this different body style works with the TNGA - B platform in every driving cornditions. Engine performance (in numbers).
If only they'd put the 3.5-litre 2GR-FE engine in it, like they did for a while in the Corolla (naming it the Blade Master). 206kW is quite a handful in a spongey front- wheel- drive Corolla body, but I do love mine.
Yes, but it's increasingly difficult to find an AWD CX-3. In some markets Mazda dropped the CX-3 altogether, and in others it's FWD only, because of price/emissions/making space for the CX-30.
As an Australian I enjoy seeing the differences but am also annoyed at the features you can have that I can’t The larger headunit and the armrest being my main wishes over here (which shouldn’t even be hard to implement)
Nothing, som Hi Lux are made in South Africa, topp notch cars. Gearboxes has been manufacured in Poland for many years, nothing wrong with them ,Corolla made in Turkie, total trouble free - ! Aygo in Tsjekkia ,France - Very relayeble cars
Made in France - oh dear hope the normally reliable Toyota know what they are doing. Normal Yaris also made in France is very tinny and doors don't clunk with a quality feel, more like a 1980s Ford fiesta Good review thanks
Seems like Toyota is failing to be simple and practical cars. Reliable I'm sure, but it just doesn't seem that up to date and/or well thought out in the practicality. Also it's horribly expensive, at least in my market. Top specification (not counting ST) Ford Puma is 10 grand cheaper than the top spec Yaris Cross. Even the ST is cheaper, even a mid spec Skoda Kodiaq is a couple grand cheaper than this! But even in the horrible base spec it's the same price as a top spec Captur, Puma or really any other b-crossover of a much higher specification.
Where's that? In Poland the base spec is among the cheapest (thanks to the non-hybrid engine variant). However most pre-ordered cars are mid/high spec, says Toyota.
@@MarekDrives The base spec here in Finland also has the non hybrid cheap system but even so it's 26k for the absolute base spec. Toyotas are much more expensive than competitors here for no apparent reason, Corolla, Camry and RAV4 too but the Yaris Cross is a new level of ridiculous.
@@MarekDrives Yo. legit question. Why don't you reviewers ever review the base spec? I always feel like I am getting baited. I see a super nice car in a review and then I compare it to base version and it looks and I perceive it like a totally different car.
@@frankopanklaric these are press fleet cars. Carmakers usually present mid/high spec cars to the media, because they want to show the customers what's new. This is why you may want to upgrade your car in the first place. If you sit in a base spec Yaris this and previous gen, it's basically the same cheap plastic car. No reason to buy a new one for at least 2 generations. There are very few brands (actually I can only think of Ford) that make sense in lower spec. Most other brands are pretty much the same in low spec, and it's the high end options that make them stand out.
This is the only subcompact crossover I would choose, cos it has a 4WD option which is not available in the majority of its rivals. You can actually get a Yaris Cross with 4WD.
It is not real AWD. Only the electric motor powers the rear wheels, so its contribution depends on the computer of the car making the right decisions, and the battery having stored enough power to use it. Its horsepower is abysmal and is very noisy, slow, and low quality. You can't really go offroad with it, it is a city car that just sits higher. It is a TRASH car, literally one of the worst on the market, get a Hyundai Kona N-line AWD, you are going to get double the horsepower, far better AWD, in pretty much the same form factor and for less money.
I like your car reviews but toyota is doing well for a fuel economy but the problem is a cvt transmission and their entertainment touch screen it looks outdated and they need to improve their software like a Hyundai and Kia cars. But for cvt transmission can be with an 8 speed automatic it will be better for economy and less noisy.
You'd think someone in Toyota would have a look to see what else is out there. What a missed opportunity. Still, it makes it easy to disregard this monument to cheap plastic.
Biggest issue seems to be parking it somewhere and forgetting what it looks like. Maybe time for Toyota to look at other manufacturers for a bit of design flair.
"wait for the price to lower after launch..." *a wild energy crisis with War and hyperinflation* appears But yea have been keeping eye on Yaris Cross and Mazda CX30 :D
China Toyota incoming, best bs design for Europe. Quality of JDM is gone so the money not worth anymore. Whole car is approx 8-14k worth simple because it’s an Yaris.
I say as an Toyota fan: This is awful. Again! They should kick evryone out of the Toyota Design Center! Why need it have to this? Another mediocre plastic car from Toyota and not for little money. It is still full of ergonomic flaws like in the corolla. But for the presentation I give 5 stars of course like always! 😊
Looks disgusting. I do not understand Toyota. They nailed it with the regular Yaris, not to mention the GR version which is a masterpiece. The only AWD suv what I would drive which is actually not a joke on mediocre terrain is the Jeep Renegade (not even mentioned in the video).

I've driven the MiTo once, when it came out around 2008/9. Probably it was a turbo petrol. I can't remember. I've never even sat in once since then, and I've seen very few on the road. But as far as I can tell the Fiat diesels are pretty reliable, if maintained correctly.
@@MarekDrives thank you very much for your answer!! You are an important person for lots of people out there! 🙏
Keep it up!!
Thank you.
Hybrid? Toyota. Non-hybrid - the world is your oyster.
@@MarekDrives thanks for opinion 😀.
Cool info… video
Thanks 👍
wants this model saling in asia market ...love AWD+hybrid model
even it does, the posibility model that gonna lunch at asia market will be assembly in INDO and the exterior / interior are differences from european model,,,, ;(
Just curious, They have the same model as eUrop model, just difference for the options which is my preperable model than INO model.....anyway I couldn,t get the europ model here in Thailand just brought the model they have for sale , gray market is not suitable for me ....
Why is the exhaust hanging out like a downspout again. Looks so 80's
Awesome review as always👍this is a good car absolutely not for family not even as a second car.
Big demand for glass seats?
With that price they can walk off of a long pier. I guess I'm driving petrol till I die. Opel mokka, here I come.
So it was noisy or silent?
@@ckchristos Significant wind and tyre noise above 50mph.
Nice shoe laces!
They are! Thanks :-)
Welcome in Belgium Marek! How did you find it here?
Wait, this aint Belgium :-) Wrote the comment as soon as I saw belgian number plates -) Car looks nice, btw and the review is as always detailed enough. Cheers
Toyota Poland borrowed press cars from Toyota Europe for our local launch event :-)
after 14min 51sec., still waiting for the review to start... this is a presentation of the car - at best.
What's missing?
Mazda cx-30, Subaru crosstrek have awd versions too
They're bigger, more expensive. The Yaris Cross is based on a supermini, not a compact car.
@@MarekDrives but the vitara you mentioned is very similar size to these, similar price wise too. I guess cx-3 is closer here as based on the Mazda 2
Yes, but it's increasingly difficult to find an AWD CX-3. In some markets Mazda dropped the CX-3 altogether, and in others it's FWD only, because of price/emissions/making space for the CX-30.
Maybe its a good car, but why call it Yaris ?
As an Australian I enjoy seeing the differences but am also annoyed at the features you can have that I can’t
The larger headunit and the armrest being my main wishes over here (which shouldn’t even be hard to implement)
This car has 260 hp?
Very good fuel consumption
It is like a mini rav4
I am not the biggest fan of the design, I'd rather get a normal Yaris or a Corolla
Thanks for watching!
Hi Marek, Yaris CROSS price is just big no-no...
Great review like always.
Btw when you will test new Duster EDC 150 HP ?
thx and cya :)
Thanks. Don't know. There are production delays, and client cars have priority over press cars.
@@MarekDrives ok thx, keep up great job 👍😀
Seems to be vastly underpowered, why isn't there a bigger engine option?
Because emissions.
How is it underpowered?
That's like complaining about the fuel consumption of a Ferrari.
@@lord_flashheart compared to my 2.0 chr it is very slow and the chr isn't a quick car either!
For 32k euro I could just buy a Tucson. The top trim seems crazy expensive.
In Poland they are riding the availability wave. The Yaris Cross is there for you to buy, whereas anything else you have to wait 9-18 months for.
@@MarekDrives same here in Romania. I've just resigned to not buying a new car until 2023.
@@Gilotopia probably a good call. If you don't need a car, hold off for a year or two.
@@MarekDrives But I'll still be watching your reviews in the meantime!
Chr more beautiful
This is the only subcompact crossover I would choose, cos it has a 4WD option which is not available in the majority of its rivals.
You can actually get a Yaris Cross with 4WD.
Yeah, but it's a hybrid setup, so not ideal either.
@@ΧρήστοςΔενέχεισημασία The Kona N Line AWD is not offered for sale here in the UK.
Another great review by Marek, now go on and order a Ford Puma.
I've ordered something else :)
@@MarekDrives Can’t wait to hear as an undecided SUV future buyer.
@@Taliskerop it's a crossover, but slightly bigger. I saw it on a lorry arriving at the dealer today. Jolly exciting!
@@MarekDrives Can’t wait for the revelation. Keep them coming.
Unfortunately, anything not manufactured in Japan will have quality & longevity issues.
In Australia They don't even have a hand rest. Shame
Yes, I've seen some Australia reviews, and they seem to be more budget cars than here in Europe.
Biggest issue seems to be parking it somewhere and forgetting what it looks like. Maybe time for Toyota to look at other manufacturers for a bit of design flair.
"wait for the price to lower after launch..."
*a wild energy crisis with War and hyperinflation* appears
But yea have been keeping eye on Yaris Cross and Mazda CX30 :D
LoL
This was the time vaccines were available, and it looked like we're out of the woods. Good old days :)
@@MarekDrivesENG they look so distant now....
if you want the best get a luxury car no need to criticize thats all.
China Toyota incoming, best bs design for Europe. Quality of JDM is gone so the money not worth anymore. Whole car is approx 8-14k worth simple because it’s an Yaris.
This is made in France, so hardly JDM :-)
@@MarekDrives yes I know I own a Yaris made in France, compared to Japan production is it trash. Sorry for the language.
As they say "pardon my French' :)
😊
Too small boot, too bad :)
I will never understand car journalists.
Loud 6 cylinder? Great!
Loud 3 cylinder! Bad!
It's the quality of sound. Would you rather listen to a loud symphony or a loud rattle?
Tunnel dials all the way. F**k the screen setup. Looks like 1990s lexus…
In this video we learned that Marek love moms
No one loves, like mom :)
Are you really comparing a Jeep with a Toyota?🤡
excellent exterior, cheap looking interior, slow - disappointing.
Fair enough!
Ah yes, when Marek's eyes go wide it means 1 of 2 things. Holy cow, this thing is a beast, I'm about to kill myself or OMG this is lame, let me out of this. Thanks for the amusing video Marek.
This car doesn't come to Canada but I would go for the larger car every time. So go buy a Sequoia.
I think you'll be getting the Corolla Cross soon.
@@MarekDrives oh my eyes are wide. Ie the 2nd option why eyes go wide. Hehe

Hi
Nie podoba mi się te nadwozie. Brzydka jak Toyota.
Bad mum joke..and cheesy review but you can do better I know.
