ESRM 462: Coastal Management’s Dew Drop Inn welcomes the great Harry Shearer for a fun, informal conversation about coastal management in the context of the failure of the Flood Protection System to protect the city of New Orleans as Hurricane Katrina struck the region in 2005 (19 years ago last month). Harry is a longtime resident of both SoCal and New Orleans and a tireless advocate for a clearer understanding of what happened before, during, and after Hurricane Katrina. He is particularly attuned to the institutional failings of agencies and organizations charged with protecting people and landscapes in New Orleans and the greater coastal zone area. A member of the groundbreaking 1970s comedy troupe Credibility Gap, Harry would go on to perform iconic roles in films like This Is Spinal Tap and A Mighty Wind and voice numerous characters on The Simpsons. He has hosted the weekly Le Show radio show/podcast for the past 40 years, wherein he satirizes the news, skewers politics and pop culture with timely sketches, and debuts hilarious songs all glued together with a fantastic weekly soundtrack often drawing from the gumbo that is NOLA. Harry has kindly met with many of our ESRM Service Learning classes while in New Orleans many times over the years.
