Coastal Agencies in 2024
มุมมอง 6วันที่ผ่านมา
The landscape of coastal management in California and the United States is characterized by a complex array of federal and state agencies, each with distinct roles and responsibilities. At the federal level, agencies such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) are key players in regulati...

Nice video.
Searching through TH-cam with the same conundrum! Best of luck!
I am a descendant of the Buras family. One day I plan to turn Buras into a big city.
Nice Methodology
This Video is
Very educative ❤❤
Great walk-through of the papers with constructive feedback on form, content, and use of AI. I also love the focus on revision. I would like to see an example that includes the data from class since that was one common note for improvement across the three papers. Thank you for sharing!
The video is very educative and well prepared

Great one
This is 1964.
Okay
Nice presentation,I have a question please, how do we use for microplastic degradation
Beautiful Presentations

What do you mean, it's gone?
no one else online is explaining Spatial Heterogeneity in such simple and understandable ways, yet still talking about really complex ideas. this was so clear and helpful!
Is it under water?.
This deck is just above water: the ports can be opened to fire guns. Next deck down is at/below waterline.
How did you transplant them?
We used Z-Spar marine epoxy to anchor the thalli bases into rock cracks/depressions. It worked fairly well. If they took within the first few hours, the epoxy seemed to hold them well.
Thanks for the video. But, the title should be "Re-growing" as this removal process will only cause the haole koa to grow back in two weeks. Stump removal or methods of how to deal with the stumps for eradication is the reason I'm here. Let me know how that goes and what you have come up with.

Plastic pollution in water bodies is a significant environmental concern. Plastics, especially single-use items like bottles, bags, and packaging materials, often find their way into rivers, lakes, and oceans through improper disposal, littering, or inadequate waste management systems. Once in the water, plastics can persist for years and break down into smaller fragments known as microplastics, which can be ingested by aquatic organisms, causing harm to marine life and potentially entering the food chain. Plastic pollution in water bodies has far-reaching consequences for ecosystems, human health, and the economy.
To obtain a homogeneous distribution of microplastic on the filter, the water samples is first homogenised it's placed vigorous stirring or ultrasonication at 30 - 50 0C for at least one night in order to improve the hydration of an microplastic present.
Great video! Thanks for visiting Bloomhouse, Sean! 🌼
I love Dale!!!!
Thanks for this knowledgeable video but, You haven't share which type of filter paper utilized in this experiment, so please share
first
Great song, thanks!
Is most of it from farms that are unnatural?
Not exactly sure about you question. Are you asking how much seafood comes from farmed sources?
@@ThePirateLab yes. How are these farmed fish fed and treated? I’ve seen horrific fish farms and I would not eat that!
where was the smolt from?
Wow❤
Hello, can I know how to measure the concentration of microplastic after this? I'm planning to do an experiment about this, but I don't know what to do next... looking forward to your reply!
Most basically, you will need a microscope so you could enumerate the concentration of particles per volume or per weight.
@@ThePirateLab but I don't have a light microscope...is compound microscope okay?
Sure...but it will take longer to process your samples as your field of view will be so zoomed in it may take a while to progress through the entire filter. It is totally possible, just a matter of time.
Thanks, helping me study.
"promo sm" 😁
Iam currently working on microplastics can you please share the research papers
You can find them all here: www.researchgate.net/profile/Sean_Anderson10
Fukushima killed the pacific, take them on the tour liars
Does the site offer any advanced search options? How can I search by title or by abstract???
Once you have an account, you can search for author, topic, title of publication, etc.
@@ThePirateLabIs there a way to do it specifically? Sites like ACM, IEEEExplore or JSTOR have advanced search where I can filter by title, metadata or publication. Also, how do I get only English articles in search results?
The search function is limited in that you can't focus on only keyword or abstract, etc. While you can limit the items being searched (theses, reports, etc.) and the time frame, you can't do more than that. This came originally as it was something of a social media tool for researchers (with search de-emphasized) and now the still-less sophisticated search tool seems related to the desire to drive folks towards the journals/publisher or keep them within their sphere.
Can I follow the same process for the sample of industrial effluent or wastewater treatment plants
Of course. We use essentially this same approach for just about everything/every matrix, save for air (the particles in our air sampling are directly deposited on the filter media and so don't require this step). Liquids go through this process. Sediments are put in a high density solution and then the supernatant is poured through the filters. Tissue samples are first digested (with H2O2, KOH, etc.) and then the resulting slurry passed through the filters. I would do a test run. If you filter is clogging too quickly with macro particles then try a test digestion and repeat the test.

Hey, I am working on similar project, have u made any progress?? Did u find any particular procedure for the microplastic analysis?
1- That’s an All Hazard Outdoor Warning Siren, AKA Civil Defense Siren. I’m saying this to emphasize to the viewers that sirens in Hawaii are not dedicated to just Tsunamis. 2-That particular siren on Honoapiilani Hwy (Federal Signal DSA 6/6) pictured in the video was broken long before the fire happened in Lahaina & would not have sounded even if the signal to activate it was sent out. The yellow siren atop the pole (EOWS 612) was “replaced” by the black speaker array mounted directly below it, unfortunately the new array was still nonfunctional due to what’s assumed to be controller/battery issues. 3-The siren in the heart of Lahaina (Federal Signal Modulator 3024H) near First Hawaiian Bank still would have been able to sound despite the cell service & power grid failure, because it had battery backup & satellite activation. It could have been activated with no grid power or cell service & provided crucial warning. 4- The other 2 sirens in Lahaina (Federal Signal RSH-10 Thunderbeam & STH-10) were grid power dependent, but still could have been activated via satellite before the power failed, if cell service was unavailable, because they were upgraded with both satellite & cellular activation antennas. As for what remains of the 4 sirens in Lahaina after the fire… •Lahaina Cannery Mall; Siren still stands undamaged (Federal Signal STH-10). •First Hawaiian Bank, corner of Papalaua St & Honoapiilani Hwy; Siren still stands but controls are damaged beyond repair (Federal Signal Modulator 3024H). •Malu Ulu Olele Park; Siren is destroyed, the wood pole snapped in half (Federal Signal RSH-10 Thunderbeam). •Honoapiilani Hwy near Hokiokio Pl; Siren still stands, nonfunctional due to controller issues (Federal Signal DSA 6/6).
Awesome! Thanks for the fantastic info! This was in the context of one of my class discussions about tsunami warning signaling in the context of the wildfire notification debate. Mahalo for all this excellent detail and clarification.
@@ThePirateLabAlways happy to help🤙🤙
@@oahusirensrip to that STH-10 near Kapunakea Street. The STH-10 in Napili is still active
Great video! Can people fish the river?
yes
The county labels those “all hazard sirens”
Thats by the boat not under
Ha! True in the vid! The humpbacks were going all around and at this point passed just to starboard, but they were definitely underneath us just prior. We are focused on collecting body condition and individual ID imagery for our analyses of mother-calf ecology and so rarely take fun images like this. But we happened to catch this close by pass this time.
Great job being proactive. One idea is to use the plug that comes with the Borate Rods. That way you can access and recharge with a new rod in the future without drilling new holes. Safe preservatives are a thing of the future.
Buongiorno 😊
