So I’ve been asked this before and the short answer is yes, but it’s harder than applying as a citizen. I work with people doing fed work non US that spent time doing school here. Funny enough the vast minority of jobs on BLM land is federal and you could find a ton of postings that are easier to get into potentially for public land in the US just by specifying an area you want to go to, kind of work you want to do, and maybe working to get a special status position(this last ones a guess but I used it to get hired and you could apply to the same programs). I hope there’s something helpful in here!

I might not have been listening because there is just so much I'm consuming about it all right now but I'm enjoying these videos!

Haha, so I just read both of your comments and it’s awesome that you’re looking into doing more outdoors kind of work. I have a couple of videos about park ranger jobs specifically (it’s essentially a catch all term for any people that work front facing in parks and some organizations give it to the back country people too). Depending on your education and experience(honestly just learning resume writing tips and tricks will make you realize how much relevant experience you can pull in from other jobs, I mean most rangers have to have pretty broad skills) I’d think about branching past just the NPS which is awesome but all public lands agencies offer recreation work like you probably are into. If you’re dead set on the Blue Ridge Mountains a good foot in the door might be looking at conservation corps work there or what seasonal openings you qualify for. Calling the office should generally help out. Just say you’re interested in becoming a ranger and would like to talk to one of the rangers in the office. Outside of that most of my videos are about fed work so far(you could look into forest service, probably way more of that around you) but you could also look into state jobs, county jobs, and there’s probably a ton more opportunities to get involved if recreations what you’re looking to get into. Kinda all over the place, hope this helps, if you have more specific questions let me know!

I’m applying to a youth conservation corp for this summer cause I want to become a Law Enforcement Ranger and it would be a helpful job for the future

Hey, so youth corps is definitely a good mood and can help you to various degrees with becoming a LEO. The big things though are probably going to get people involved in helping you with understanding hiring and resumes. In my conservation corps time we had people who wanted to do ranger LEO work legitimately get to do ride alongs and they really enjoyed it, all you have to do is ask your sponsors to try to plan it out a bit in advance and big people occasionally (not too much or you might not get anything haha). Depending on your age and the requirement you might be able to get a PLC status which might help with summer seasonals or first job in, but there’s a lot of variables and legitimately every corps term is different from what I’ve heard. I just hope you get to get in an office, see how it works, and see how many cool options there are in there. Maybe you don’t like it but that’s just as useful. Good luck on the work and it’s awesome you’re getting into it early!
