  • AmeriCorps offers a host of benefits depending on what program you choose. We take a look at AmeriCorps NCCC, AmeriCorps Vista, and AmeriCorps State and National benefits and pay as well as job benefits!
    I personally did Americorps NCCC; however, I have put together my research about the three main branches of Americorps into this video!
    This video is new and I'll be working to fill it up with specific sources to help you get past the starting point that is this video. Leave a comment and I'll not only answer it the best I can but add useful links to the description!

    Great video! While the experience from these jobs can be amazing, the pay is almost always horrendous. Most of them pay minimum wage, or even WORSE. While I don't think you should get rich from a job like this, you shouldn't have to go on food stamps just to survive. The experience is tempting, but if you look hard, you can find another entry level job that will pay you a reasonable wage. If you are lucky enough to be a fresh high school grad or college student who can remain at home with family, then go for these jobs. You will gain wonderful experience and connections.

      I agree whole heartedly with people looking for entry level jobs that pay better. While doing my year with NCCC I saw literal hundreds of young adults that didn’t have a clue of what they could do after the program or what kind of jobs they’d actually be able to have help getting from the act of serving for a year+ and was just hoping to fill some gaps(as well as that fraction that are lost and just want to be involved in community service any way they can). I appreciate the comment though and agree.

    Class 27A - Southwest Alumni here....
    I am currently on my 3rd term as a VISTA. I did the State of National with Habitat AmeriCorps. Out of all my cumulative AmeriCorps experience I missed the NCCC the most due to the travel.
    Overall you are pretty spot on with your video. I wished the federal government gave preference to all AmeriCorps alums.
    Thanks for your service (ha).

    This was a great video with extremely useful information, but I also had to restart it 3 times because I kept getting distracted by what looks like a Sega Dreamcast in the background

    Hi! been watching your videos for a couple weeks now, just wanted to ask about the "non-federal loan debt". Does this include hospital and school bills? What do you mean by strapped with a lot of debt? Does this prevent me from entering/applying for the NCCC/Vista programs?

    • @ecologystorymode
      @ecologystorymode  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, appreciate you watching the videos! For non federal loan debts I (not very clearly) meant that I was able to pay off my school debt which had gone into collections that was not covered by my loans. Most of the time people only think of using the grant at the end of the program for student loans but you can pay school directly and use the money for other educational programs. americorps.gov/members-volunteers/faqs#:~:text=After%20I%20successfully%20complete%20my,my%20Segal%20AmeriCorps%20Education%20Award%3F&text=You%20can%20use%20it%20to,to%20repay%20qualified%20student%20loans. Maybe helpful? Also as for having debt you absolutely can still join. The mistake I made was I let my finances go to the crapper when I joined though, and something to seriously think of is how well you can handle being in americorps before you join. Mostly, people that dropped out of the program I saw had financial struggles and it makes it much harder to justify yourself when you ask “why am I here” throughout a service year. I was almost there myself. Hope this helps, a bit all over the place!

    I’m 25 going on 26 this june I applied for city year in 2019 right before the pandemic hit when I was 23 and then never bothered following up after hearing back from them because of the outbreak . Do you think they will reject my application for vista because of not following up before? Thanks!

    • @ecologystorymode
      @ecologystorymode  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, so my experience (each field office is different for americorps) is that you’d get a response or update no matter what your applications outcome was. This sounds like things got crazy and caught up during Covid, which most people were working remotely and things definitely did get scrambled early on when things were new. I’d give it another try and even better trying to figure out the local field office or sponsor and reaching out with your situation would be a good idea(the hotline can be more miss than hit sometimes). Good luck and I hope this is helpful. I know the dragging of time before doing americorps is a real bummer but if you’re still enthusiastic about it definitely there’s people that want the help!

      Hey, in the video I go through this, there is a grant that helps as well as some college courses that the program (depending on location and type of program) could offer during service for free, but they do not completely pay for college. americorps.gov/members-volunteers/your-benefits#:~:text=The%20Segal%20AmeriCorps%20Education%20Award,Awards%20with%20multiple%20service%20terms.
