How to become a Forester - Forestry Jobs, Forest Ecology, and other Environmental Jobs!

- Forestry jobs that allow you to work in forest ecology are sought after many people looking to find an environmental job.
This video is meant to hopefully give you the first steps on how to become a forester, and maybe even show you some new possibilities! There are all sorts of options that I don't go into in this video and I hope the links here help you explore those a bit more. Agencies like the Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service, National Parks Service, and Fish and Wildlife with the feds are a passion of mine since I struggled getting work within the feds for so long but depending on where you are and the type of work you're looking to get into there's a ton more possibilities.

Hey guys, I get a lot of questions for people who are specifically looking to get into forest work and I threw this video together to answer some of the most common types of questions people have as well as some cool links to help you guys found out more about things than I cover here. Just scratching the surface. Found out about this job area a few days ago. I am 20, just about to finish a degree in Media, but It doesnt interest me any more so I am looking for somthing more sutied to my interests. I love the outdoors, and nature (who doesn't?). This area of work honestly seems amazing, and I live in Canada with some amazing forests to work with. I need to research more, but I think I want to pursue this further. Kinda excited !

did you do it? The USFS has so many programs for people your age you should take advantage of that! They can get you paid summer work, housing, all that. And when you are done that experience is so valuable to them. One summer could get you set on a great career. You should look into if you haven't already.
I did not do it no. Almost did but took another path. Things have changed for me and now I might try somthing like this again. Thanks for the suggestions@@collinmc90 Alos I am in Canada so I would do a similar thing here

Just applied as a forestry aid. really hoping to hear back. If they don't I'm not giving up, I really think this is my calling. I'm 34. done a few different careers and never satisfied. I think this is the key.
Forestry doesn’t pay as much as it should unless you plan on doing Private Timber Harvesting for a company. It’s really as shame.

can you just into park ranger with a associates or a ranger school?
A park ranger is mostly a law enforcement officer. If you want to be in the woods you need to be a professional forester or a forestry technician

If you want to be a professional forester you need a forestry bachelor's degree. I had to move cities to go to the nearest accredited forestry school. Im a forester with the US Forest Service, been with the FS for 10 years. If youre willing to move you can climb the ladder.

If you are interested in working for the Feds as a Forester (0460 series) you need to make sure you meet the education requirement. That includes completing enough credits in three different categories (see USAJobs) to get the exact requirements. Other than that you can get your degree doesn't necessarily need to be in forestry, but it will be hard to meet the education requirement without it.
