      CAT really did a great job with "Shake Hands With Danger" video. It is a timeless classic that is every bit as applicable for today's technicians as well.

    I've been looking for this film for around 20 years, I can't believe I've finally found it!! As a kid I always loved heavy machinery and remember watching this along with "Shake Hands with Danger" & "Red: The Color of Danger" on repeat when I was around 8-10 years old. It brought a happy tear to my eye to finally watch it again after all those years! Thank you for the upload!

    If a wasp enter the cabin while you're inside, you:
    A. Slap wildly around to try to shoo the wasp out.
    B. Leave the cabin kicking & screaming.
    C. Ask your coworkers for help.
    D. Amputate an arm or two.

    We saw these videos as a young man , apprentices. In 1976 I began working at our Cat Dealer. Wow those made a huge impression and always came to mind when doing the work. Also we worked with older qualified mechanics that taught us safe procedures and we knew our risks before starting work.
    Flat level ground. Block tracks or wheels engage articulation lock. First hand experience from seasoned men we respected.
    Im 66 now just retired and still have all my fingers and never broke any bones or had a machine fall off unsafe stands. Proper cribbing or steel stands or I don’t go under that machine. I taught others the same as I was.
    Todays young guys get computer training. Omg those programs don’t teach the physical reality. The young are scared to ask at times.
    Please you guys don’t hesitate to ask if your not familiar with a task. No one would fault you but praise you for being SMART. Your life or others depends on it.
    We all wanna go home safe so don’t hesitate to ask. The more you learn the safer it gets but still new tasks need to be thought through carefully !
    Never forget how fast things can change !!!!

    • @JimMackHeavyEquipment
      @JimMackHeavyEquipment  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for sharing and thanks for the advice for new technicians, or any worker for that matter. You are right, it is far better to ask than to make a foolish mistake that can have life long consequences.
      I know training has changed and your right, there is far more computer training, but you might be glad to know that in the heavy equipment program I teach the high school kids still see great safety videos like this and Shaking Hands with Danger. These safety videos share a timeless message and are still a favorite among the students.

    at 16:41 thats not the only problem, that job is for a CRANE, not an excavator!!, the bucket is for digging!!!! NOT lifting loads by cables.

    • @JimMackHeavyEquipment
      @JimMackHeavyEquipment  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      While I agree with you that a crane might be better suited for setting manhole sections, the reality is it is almost always done with an excavator. They typically don't move the excavator out after digging the hole, to move a crane in and set the sections, and then swap the crane with an excavator again to backfill. The whole job can safely be done with an excavator and modern excavators do have load lift charts to indicate how much can safely be lifted in various positions.
