  • You’ve submitted proposal after proposal and not getting any responses. You can’t keep spending money on more connects in order to apply to more jobs. You’re probably thinking that Upwork is too crowded and clients aren’t even seeing your proposals. Let’s discuss what’s missing from your cover letter and proposals so you understand why you’re not getting invites to interviews.

a week ago i decided to get on upwork as a music producer and a sound designer, i have a decent portfolio and years of experience and i knew its hard to find my way in, i even started super small so i can get started and make some reviews and grow a little, kept chasing small jobs that doesn't requires a lot.. and its not even working, i always try my best to write a decent cover letter for that job specifically but still no views or anything, and im lacking connects at this point and started feeling like its a waste of time and even a scam to make you buy connects and keep pursuing jobs for nothing..... ik im new to all of thing and the whole thing need lots of time and patience but tbh the algorithm and the connect system is a nerve wrecking. jobs requires minimum of 8 connects and you only get 10 connects a month... like how am i supposed to even try and apply for jobs..
this is my personal experience maybe others have a different story or maybe as a sound designer its harder to find your way in.... im still trying though and im gonna keep trying until i find my first job and share my experience and how it went.

There are less jobs on upwork for sound design but less competition too so there's opportunity there to stand out

What if there isn't much said on the job posting regarding budget. I see an average hourly rate paid but it was paid for just 1 hour of work. I am also able to see a bid range.

If there isn't any info on budget, that doesn't matter, all that's important in your interview in that you're telling them what your rate is and they'll let you know if it doesn't fit in their budget. Don't try to adjust your rates to match someone's budget, if they can't afford you then it's not a good fit. You can give them options where one is cheaper but you're also delivering less
