1000 1000 thankyous. It worked JUST like you said. I am 78 and I was EXHAUSTED after two passes on my lawn - and it didn't used to be that way. I suspected my AWD wasn't working properly, but I didn't know. I had tried to watch a few videos and they were so complicated I gave up. As they guy below says, your video saved my life 🙂 It was clear, I did it, and the AWD WORKS !!!! Thank you
Thanks for the video! My Husqvarna was doing the same thing and I thought I was going to have to replace the belt. After watching your video I adjusted the cable just like you showed, and it solved the issue! Thank you so much!
Husqvarna , poor desing, boys. Should be a shroud, covering those belts' pulleys. The older MTD, mower i have, Honda GCV 160 engine, HAS A SHROUD over that drive pulley. I just changed that belt, was stretched. Could have shortened the pull cable ; but, if its' stretched allready..../ changed it ! This mower, is front -wheel pull, only. Now, works like a ' charm '. Thank-you, DE Man, for this; and your hands-on labor ! (old guy)
I just picked one up the other day, 800 series. They tossed it in our community bulk pick up pile as it had a hole in the deck. I took it, used a piece of scrap aluminum and some roofing mastic and some sheet metal screws and patched it up. The mower started on the second pull, but the front wheels were the only ones working, and very weakly at best! Thank you for the insight on what was wrong. Working good now, but needs new wheels as these are nearly worn out.
You’re a life saver. Just got a used Jonsered AWD and can’t find jack on it. It’s the exact same mower, Huskvana just rebranded it after buying them out. I’m having this exact issue. Thank you so much.
THANK YOU!! Worked perfectly AFTER I figured out the other issue: grass packed in the belt housing on the front wheel. Used a long thin screwdriver to work out most of it. Wondering if canned air would get the rest or would pack it even more. But his worked. I also added a squirt of WD40 on the screw of the pulleys. Really a neat fix!
Very nice. Just mowed my lawn and was wondering what the issue was. I clean the underside of mine frequently, so I know this has to be the problem. Always looked down at that cable but never fooled with it. Next lawn I mow, I’m doing this before I start. Got very lucky and this was the first video I watched… Thanks.
Thank you. I've had this same mower for around 8 years and never did anything other than routine maintenance. Runs great but I notice it doesnt pull like it used to. I'll try to adjust the cable like you demonstrated. The mower in the video is missing the part that covers all the gears. Its no wonder they're having issues.
Mine is doing the same thing. Last year it wouldn't start, took it apart and cleaned it, ran and pulled like a champ last year. Wife mowed the grass twice and told me it was really hard to pull backwards. She wasn't letting go of the drive levers. Stripped it out. Now here we are.
Boy, tell me about it. I’ve been using mine the last few days without the self propel. That’s a heavy machine! My arms and shoulders feels like someone threw me down a flight of stairs. Hope these tips work.
Buddy of mine passed away. Went over to mow his family’s lawn today. Using his mower. I regret not stopping & searching for a fix during the time I was struggling. It was crazy heavy. RIP, Brian.
Yea my pos roommate had it break on him and of course didn't say anything... so when it was my turn to mow had to mow the entire damned yard with no drive....
Great video, I took my mower to find out this problem,he cut the cable ,and know he’s saying I need the cable box ,and stop mechanism, I gave him a brand new self-propelled cable thinking that he could replace it, I sure wish I had saw this video before I let him work on it. Lol.
I have the exact same model with the same issue. Mine had a worn belt and a seized pulley. I replaced the belt, three pulleys and the rear gear box tension spring. Also replaced the air filter, oil and blade. Total cost $70.00 and she could probably drag me if I fell down😂
Thanks so much this helped save me some money because I was going to take it to a shop to have it looked at and it would have cost me so much for a10 minute fix
I think have an older version of this mower HU800AWD. every time I let go of the handles the wheels wont roll backwards until i push the mower about 1 foot farther. Every time you stop you have to push it a bit more before you can pull it backwards. Done it since new.
I’m having the same problem. I took the pulleys off and made sure they would turn, then tried to do what you describe in the video. But when I go to activate the self propel my mower almost bogs down and it still won’t go. I loosened that pretty far and it still won’t go.
So im looking under mine because its doing the same thing as your video and I just noticed i only have one pulley showing? Is there something that would cover up the other two pulleys or something? Thank you in advance 🙏🏻❤️
Loosened it to the max, it helped a lot, but nowhere near capable of doing burn-outs. I guess I'll need to change the belt. It looks challenging tho. Any chance of doing a video changing one out?
I put a new belt on and it was bigger around than the old one . So needless to say, I too am back at square one. All the wheels kick in solid on mine when you lift up on the handle, taking the weight off the rear wheels slightly. Can’t figure out why because nothing in the powertrain looks like it’s been designed to alter its operation based on the amount of weight on any of the wheels or angle of deck. Lift it from the top of the rear baffle carefully in the rear and it still does it. None of the control cables look like they are doing anything when lifting the rear either.. hope your problem is just a stretched belt!
Thanks for a great video. My drive cable is adjusted properly but for some reason, the self-propelled feature is engaging without squeezing the drive handles. The mower will continue to pull until I release the bale and let the engine die. This happens spontaneously and frequently. Any suggestions for a fix would be appreciated.
Usually only my right front wheel and one back wheel pulls, the tires are worn so I added self tapping screws to add some traction, (tires are very expensive) I have the HU675AWD, The engine runs well, have the cable adjustment correct and belt is good. I replaced transmissions a couple of years ago along with cable. I am confused.
Yea I couldn't do this job like this. I would have been compelled to prevent future issues by cleaning all the grass out of the drive train area. Perfect time to try an upsell for a blade too. Oil change etc. Most people would rather get it all done at once.
I tried the adjustment like you called out but it didn't fix the problem. Inspected the idler pulleys, belt, cable, and cleaned out and lubed all the parts. I seems like the drive is disconnected some where but I can't find it. Do you have any ideas? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
My left wheel drive is total loose. The wheel it self is thight and I removed it. But the wheel Station ins totally loose and there is no screw to fix it anywhere. Is it only Held by the presses up bearing?
I have a husqvarna HU800 AWD. Slightly different than this model but the drive system is the same. My problem is when engaging the drive, it bogs the engine down, but the wheels dont drive. Ive tried that tension adjustment, but no joy, if i go counter clockwise it doesn't bog the engine, clockwise it bogs. All pulleys spin freely and the belt looks okay. Is it the rear or front transmission?
I see a lot of ppl having problems with these I’ve owned mine for 3 years never did any maintenance on it and it’s still running, everything works properly and I mowed an ache with this all this time I’m just now trying to tune it up just cause I feel like it’s time lol
The very first thing you want to do is pull plug wire, so someone doesn't start it. Not everyone knows, its just the right thing to do for you and mostly for others. I watched an older gentleman, who was mentally retarded, but was a very hard worker, he tipped his older mower over across, the street and was cleaning the underneath, I went running, just as I got there it started, I don't know if it was me for him to stand or the loaded underneath kept him from chopping his hands off. he replied " wow did you see that, it almost bit me" repeatedly, his didn't a kill lever on it but, I always do it reguardless
I was just given one of these from a neighbor because it wasn't driving. Two cranks and it's off to the races! Great instructional video.
Very cool!

I pulled one of these mowers out of the garbage. 6 years old and the owner said drive is not working. It is now. Works flawlessly.
Awesome
Thank you so much for the video. Backyard is a hill, about 25 deg incline (or more). You may have literally saved my life!
Glad it helped!

These things are tanks to try and push when the drive isn’t working
I agree I have for like 3 years now 😂
Definitely

7:30 -8:00 Counter clockwise was the easiest way to put it, there it is guys turn that feller a couple and adjust to taste. Brilliant thanks.
Incredible video. Very well done. Short and too the point. Thanks for taking the time to make and post this video.

Thank you so much for making this. I was about to order belts and pulleys when I saw your video. Worked like a champ!

I was about to put it in the shop
I really appreciate you! Working fine again!
Great video, thank you. Solved my problem and saved me a lot of time.

Awesome vide! I have a FWD only so will use this for guidance.
Right on!
Thanks so Much! How to raise the height on the handle . I have this mower. 64" tall and still too low . Its almost at mid thigh?
I think have an older version of this mower HU800AWD. every time I let go of the handles the wheels wont roll backwards until i push the mower about 1 foot farther. Every time you stop you have to push it a bit more before you can pull it backwards. Done it since new.

Sounds like sticking cable or wrong belt may be short.
Usually only my right front wheel and one back wheel pulls, the tires are worn so I added self tapping screws to add some traction, (tires are very expensive) I have the HU675AWD, The engine runs well, have the cable adjustment correct and belt is good. Great to hear!
Do you have a video or info on how to replace a broken crankshaft? Thanks
How do you change the belt
Yea I couldn't do this job like this. I would have been compelled to prevent future issues by cleaning all the grass out of the drive train area. Perfect time to try an upsell for a blade too. Oil change etc. Most people would rather get it all done at once.
What if the adjuster is all the way out? Drive pull is very weak. Would a new cable fix it up? Belt still looks like its in good shape.
Most likely worn belt or bad pulleys
I think I would have pressure washer underneath it really good and might even remove cover plus sharpen blades and balance 😊
Going to try this today. Thank you sir.
Best of luck!
Belt may be off the transmission
Dude thank you so much. This worked for me
Glad to hear it
The output shaft on the front transmission doesn't seem to be rotating with the input pulley shaft. This means the transmission is crap right?
Most likely if cables and belts in good order.
Just a suggestion, but you really should pull the spark plug wire prior to working underneath, especially if you are moving the blade by hand.
Tilting my HU800AWDH on its side, my front wheels turn in tandem but my rear wheels spin independently. Is my rear transmission broken?
Possible or cable is broken
How to replace the drive belt.
Hey thanks I thought it would need a belt. All I had to do was tighten it up.
Glad I could help
Great instructional video!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video. Thanks.
You are welcome!
Fixed mine thank you
Good to hear
Thank you. Back to mowing.
Have fun!
I have an older husqvarna awd mower that only has a single handle to activate the drive, and no way of adjusting the cable. Any suggestions?
Time for drive belt most likely
I think my cable is broke , how do you get to the bottm end of the cable?
Turn mower on its side
Already loosened the cable to max, still having weak pulling drive - guess I need a new belt?
Many Thanks!!!
You're welcome!
What is u already did that?
What if the pulleys don't move free?
Then probably has worn bearings.
They screw you on the lc221A. It doesn’t have that adjustment. I had to get a new belt and cable.
Excellent video!
Glad you liked it!
My left wheel drive is total loose. The wheel it self is thight and I removed it. But the wheel Station ins totally loose and there is no screw to fix it anywhere. Is it only Held by the presses up bearing?
Sounds like the adjuster asm and bearing is worn out.
My lawnmower gear box on top when I was changing the cable. Now I don't know where the parts go. Especially the 2 springs. Self propelled husqvarna.
Belts are probably jumped off or has bad idler pulleys
Great video...Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Fixed mine. Thanks!
Awesome
my cable come out how does the inside of box go back together
that the cable goes in where handles are
May need new cable if it's broken
6:26 Looks like, your cable / and/or belts, BOTH stretched.
How to install the nagger on this lawnmower
Took way too long to explain the fix but did explain finally.
Lol complains about free knowledge 🤦♂️

Shhhhhhhthanks dude
No problem
If i had to pay someone to do this work what would be cost ??
Probably around 50-80$
Mine has a little wheel as well as the cable top. Confusing. It’s a Honda
Super awesome
Thanks
I have had two drive cable fray between the deck and transmission drive lever after an hour. What could be wrong.
Adjustment maybe to tight
Any chance you can do a video on the same issue but the mower has a "non-adjustable" drive cable?
If I come across one yes.
you talk too much, you made this video 10x longer than was necessary. 🤣
Fast forward 😁
@@D-MAN107 my tablet is solar powered, it doesn’t have fast forward. 🤤

Why does my front wheels pull without pulling any levers!
Sounds like the belt is to tight or the cables is adjusted to tight.
I have a front wheel drive
I tried adjusting it yet no tension was developed.
Broken belt or cable most likely
@@D-MAN107 belt was too stretched out.
I did this but it did not help.
poor design, sorry ....
Just get to the freakin point man
🫡
Mines not spinning at all. Video didn’t help at all. Wasted 11 min
Probably has a broken belt or bad pulleys.
@@D-MAN107 nope it just wasn’t around one of them 😂 routed it right and fixed it
