Stipe has not really spoken to the media in quite some time, and he basically confirms that he is still fighting Jon Jones next, gives a timeline, and gives his thoughts on Tom Aspinall as the interim champ! A lot of people complaint about Jon Jones holding up the Heavyweight devision and why he fighting Miocic. But, Jones is the Canelo of mma. This is a retirement money fight for Miocic. It is what it is. The UFC should have mandatories like boxing. They already have the same judging happening lol

Jon is ducking Aspinall so hard for this fight. Always loved Stipe but man this fight should not happen.
At this point, since Jones is refusing to unify the belt, and the UFC is unwilling to strip him or make him fight Tom, Tom Aspinall should publicly declare himself the true heavy-weight champion of the UFC, and that unlike Jon Jones, hes going to be defending his belt against actually active ranked competitors within his weight class.
I mean that’s kinda the case rn, everyone might recognize Jon jones as the “actual” champion for the heavyweight division but I think it’s safe to say who really is the champion at the heavyweight division. but ngl I think if Tom keeps on saying that he’s the actual champ and Jon jones isn’t a true champion, I have a feeling jones ego won’t let that slide and will probably fight Tom before retiring. Bc I think Tom aspinal will live in Jon jones head rent free if he keeps calling him out and never ends up fighting each other
@PabloLopez-po3bi The only chance that Tom has of making this fight happen is if he does exactly that: accusing Jon of ducking him, declaring himself the true champion and that he will be defending his belt unlike Jones.
Jon Jomes is the definition of a paper champion. He deliberately priced himself out of the market when talks of a fight with Francis Ngannou were in the discourse, basically waited for Francis to fight out his contract and leave, and now hes subbing his own interim champion to instead fight an out of prime Stipe who hasn't fought in years, who is 2 and 2 in his last 4 fights, who isnt even a serious competitor anymore. And now he wants Alex Pereira because he's a favorable matchup that would look good for his "legacy".
We don't need to see a Pereira vs Jones fight. Alex has a massive hole in his game which Jones could easily capitalize on: Alex's lack of defensive wrestling + Alex is smaller than Jones. Jones could just take him down and then wrestlefuck his way to a decision.

I’m not a fan of interim because by definition there usually isn’t an interim. This time it makes sense, but the titles need to be unified or the winner of Stipe/Jones should be stripped.

I think Jones vs Stipe is going to happen for sure. All of this is a pre negotiation for the storm thats next. Jones is not gunna retire, all of this is about what happens after Stipe. Dana's letting this happen BECAUSE it weakens Jons position. This is all on purpose, he is willing to take a hit himself, to put Jon in a bad position with fans.
Then he is gunna say a bunch of nasty shit after Stipe,, like ngannou level disrespect. He needs jon to feel salty, denied by the fans, while opening up the check book huge behind closed doors, it takes alot to get Jon to take this dangerous fight, more then money, but hes gunna need that too, all of this dana is aware of.

Oddly enough I'm interested in the JJ VS Stipe scrap. I think we will get to see how good or bad JJ really is at HW because Stipe although he's old is no pushover like Gane. If Jones wins I would love to see him fight Pereira at HW because it is the natural progression for the LHW goat to fight the LHW champ at HW it makes perfect sense to me. Aspinal doesn't interest me. He should fight Gane or Blaydes and stop whining.

Stipe is more concerned with fire fighting than mma fighting. They are both old and past their prime and jones is dc fat. Neither wants Tom or another new blood top ranked fighter clearly. Not a bad idea for either, but either unify the title or make it a legacy fight and move on.
