Just discovered this channel. Jazz music speaks to my heart ❤️. 70 year old here. Patricia Barber as much of a poet as piano player. Plays a lot of original material. A Chicago treasure. THANKS KENNY!
As usual another quality informative video...Carmen McRae!...My biggest fear in life is not having enough time to absorb, and listen to a lot of the great female jazz vocalist records that I haven't had a chance to get to yet...Carmen McRae & Betty Carter is one of my all time favorites!...Patricia Barber, her versions of " The Beat Goes On", "Use Me" and, "Black Magic Woman" put her on my pedestal awhile back ...Flora Purim!...WOW!...Chick Corea's "Light as Feather Album " in 1973 pointed me in the right direction...I was lucky enough to see her with Airto back in the late 70's at the Bottom Line in NYC...It was Bossa/Latin /Percussion Heaven!...and special thanks letting me know about Rosa Passos...Like I said somethings I missed out on, but there is still enough time.
I commented enthusiastically on the last Rosa Passos CD you did and I like this one even more. It's always a treat to see someone else highlighting great obscurities (relatively speaking) that I've been enjoying seemingly in a vacuum cut off from the sadly malnourished musical tastes of the rest of the world.
Love the Chris Connor back there. Betty Carter Droppin’ Things should get your attention. For something more modern, you should check out Gretchen Parlato Live in NYC. You won’t be disappointed.
Thanks again for the heads up, but oh Kenny! You caught me by surprise with that last selection. I immediately reached over to the bookcase beside the bed where I have over 40 CDs by (or featuring) Airto and Flora. Two stand outs for sound quality include "Däfos" and "Three-Way Mirror". Favorites for songs include "Humble People", "Carry On", "The Essetial Airto" ("Seeds On The Ground"), "Milestone Memories", "Milestone Memories", and "Slaves Mass" (Hermeto), and "Light as a Feather" (Chick). But my favorite all-time performance by her is the title track of Chick's first Return to Forever album. Thinking of Carmen McRae covering standards reminded me of a favorite late night CD, Salena Jones "Night Mood". I was floored to read in the liner notes that it was recorded in Ireland by Irish jazz musicians. Cheers Kenny!
Cheers to you and I hope all is well. "Carry On" is great album by Flora and Chick Corea and Return to Forever featuring Flora Purim and Stanley clarke was outstanding. I discovered Flora Purim when I was a teenager in high school and she remains one of my favorites 😊
@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews High School? Cool! It wasn't until my 2nd year of undergrad school, about 20 years old, when a friend in the music department introduced me. Speaking of Flora and Stanley ... even though Flora covered "Butterfly Dreams", my favorite is Stanley's original version on "Children of Forever" sung by the great Andy Bey. I might have mentioned this before, but I actually met Flora and Airto after a gig at the old (small cellar-dive) BlueNote Tokyo. I must have been over 50 at the time, but felt like a teenage groupie getting her and Airto's signature. That chat with them, and shaking hands with Herbie Hancock at the same club are the closest to the gods of music I've gotten. Thank god some of us still have ears! G'night from Japan.
It must have been cool meeting Flora and Airto in person. I did a video on that Stanley Clarke Children of Forever album, it's a fantastic album for sure.
@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews Yeah, I remember that Children of Forever reference. It was cool to meet them, butI wish I had been prepared to that I could ask cool questions rather than gush like a teenager.
Have enjoyed listening to the ‘Carmen Sings Monk’ album. That George Mraz certainly knows his way around an acoustic bass. If you have just over three minutes to spare, may I recommend you listen to ‘All Night Long’ sung by Nancy Wilson from the album ‘The Swingin’s Mutual’ featuring The George Shearing Quintet with Nancy Wilson.
I have a lot of Nancy Wilson albums but I do not have that one. I listened to the song on youtube and the performance was great vocally, backed by a nice Instrumental performance. Thank you very much for your recommendation ✌️
I'm up at 4:00A.M. and I just finished listening to two of your recommendations... the Rosa passos Ron Carter Entre Amigos album and the Patricia Barber Higher album. I would say you're right, they're pretty close to being a 10. If I had to liking them to a performance as far a sound and delivery. I would say both albums are in the realms of the Susannah Mccorkle From Bessie To Brazil album depending on what song you listen to. A couple of songs that are my favorites off the album are (Adeus America) and (Love). Before I forget (The People you never get to Love) is also very great. Enjoy.👍
Thanks for the recommendations, I will definitely check them out. I haven't heard the Carmen McRae record you recommended but my favorite to date has been Bittersweet with great accompanying guitar by Mundell Lowe. Another singer/recording not on your list I would recommend is Irene Kral's The Gentle Rain.
Kenny, Thanks for giving some more love to the female vocalists. I have the McCrae and Floria Purim. I only have the first CD of Rossa that you showed. I would really love to have the one you showed with Carter. I have some Barber CDs in my collection, but I wasn't aware of "Higher." I would love to add those to my collection. I have all of the Purim CDs you showed. I may have to leave some recommendations but I'll try to contain myself. Great video my brother.
I bought the Carmen McCrae three weeks ago. It’s excellent. Clifford Jordon was outstanding on that recording. I regret going to see Branford Marsalis instead of Clifford Jordan’s big band in Cincinnati
Kenny, I just thought of this and I think you would be the perfect person to do this video. I would love to see if you could do a video about female musicians. I know some, but I would like to see if you have any in that great collection of yours.

I appreciate that, thank you very much. Patricia Barber has a unique approach to jazz that is refreshing. Thank you very much for your comments 😊 ✌️

New names! Always love learning about new musical artists. Thanks, Kenny.
Wow the Ron Carter and Rosa Passos CD you recommend is fantastic and very relaxing in the best way possible! Great find!
I appreciate that 🙏...I hope that you enjoy the music 🎶 😊

Thank you very much for your comments on both Rossa Passos CDs. Thanks for listening to the music 😊🎶
I love love love Rosa Passos. I too have her fantastic Amarosa CD. I will be getting the Passos/Carter one!
What a great singer she is. Her performance with Ron Carter is great 👍 👌
Thank you for the recommendations, not a single one I knew before, but enjoyed every one of them!
Thank you for watching and listening to the music 🎶

Thank you very much for your recommendation 🎶
I love the vocals of Carol Sloane
Kenny: Yes, that Carmen McRae collection is fantastic. Need to look into Rosa Passos. Have some Patricia Barber, but not "Higher." Good post!
Thank you very much 😊✌️

Many thanks and good morning Kenny! Ilove hearing about releases I've never heard, and you always deliver ✌️🤘
My brother, thank you very much. I hope that you have a outstanding day ✌️
‘Glen Kellaway from the Basement’ often mentions ‘Café Blue’ by Patricia Barber as being excellent, performance and hi-fi wise. He has it on vinyl.
I have the Impex Records Patricia Barber LP and it's excellent 👌 👍 👏 🎶
One of my favorites is Lonnie Liston Smith

Wasn't "500 Miles High" originally sang by her on Chic Corea's Light As A Feather album?
What's the name of the singer you mentioned in one of your videos. I think it was 1960. I want to feature her on my radio show.
I'm not totally sure but it may have been Toni Harper.
