Excellent choices. They are true jazz classics recordings. Don Cherry Where is Brooklyn should be included as a classic recording. The sound and the music hypnotizes me. Best time to listen to it is around midnights.
Hello George. First, let me wipe the drool from my chin as this was a very tasty collection of 8 classics! I must say that I'm a fan of all the artists you showed, but alas, I don't own any of these particular LP's. I have a few from Morgan, Shorter, Adderley, and Dolphy... mostly on jazz comps. Wonderful stuff, my friend. Thanks and have a good week. Cheers!
That beginning of the Hoarse Silver track was such a revelation when I first played it as all I could thing of was Steely Dan using that piano riff. You got me dancing this morning cooking breakfast with Moanin. Kat was unimpressed. I actually had all of these so I totally agree with you.
Scott I was trying to get into moanin for about a year and I just couldn't however over the past week it's started to click. I now love it. Along came betty is one of the best jazz songs I've ever heard. Top 10 favourite blue note songs in my opinion.
What an incredible line-up of albums. Totally agree on Out to Lunch - a little "out there" but totally listenable. I got the Duke Pearson Christmas album - you're right, it's a good one. I need to get Song For My Father. Thanks for the needle drops - they sounded great.
Cheers randy. I’m not a very Christmas person. But I really like duke Pearson it cam at a time when the classics weren’t really the best blue note lp in the catalog. The horance silver lp is great. G.
Hey George, love Art Blakey's Moanin' & you are correct about him being a great band leader - Lee Morgan was a fantastic trumpet player whose career ended way to soon, love Cornbread also - Ah yes, Wayne Shorter's Speak No Evil - Horace Silver does fine work with a slight Latin flair - Midnight Blue is outstanding for sure :)
Those are certainly 8 essentials for any jazz collection, not just Blue Note or Classic. Luckily I have all of the albums but I think only two are from the Classic series. The rest are other reissues from the 70s onwards. Nice picks George, Cheers Dale
You definitely picked some great albums. I really need to get the Moanin' album as I have a cheap copy from a cut-rate reissue label. I do have the Lee Morgan, Horace Silver and Sonny Clark albums. Now I know the ones I need. Take care.
Hi George. I have four of those - so I'm batting 500. Probably add The Sidewinder. The remaining schedule for the classic series doesn't grab me much but it has been a good run to get some (affordable) BN in the collection.
Hi Jeff. Yes. The classic series has been getting watered down. Especially in thee last few months. But as you say fantastic quality for the money. Sidewinder is a deffo.
How about these - Grachan Moncur - Evoution , Jackie McLean - Destination Out , Joe Henderson - Inner Urge , Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage , McCoy Tyner - The Real McCoy , Hank Mobley - No Room For Squares , Dexter Gordon - Go ! , and the great Wayne Shorter's stellar - Adam's Apple . All five star records in my humble opinion .
Good morning George. Nice to see you again. That Blakey album 'Moanin' sounds so so good on your stereo. Do you think adding an Icon Amp or something similar is essential for boosting sound? I love tubed amps. I still have my original tubed Supro guitar amp from the sixties. I would love to have original pressings of Speak No Evil and The Sidewinder. Both iconic jazz albums. Thank heavens that Blue Note is still releasing reissues. The Classic Series is the best. Love the label. Also love your updates. Wonderful eight George. Do you know if they are planning on releasing some new ones for 2022? The perfect video to end my morning VC viewing. Have a super dynamite day~ Rob/Boston
He rob. Yip there’s two classic coming out every month. I have icon audio and cary audio amps. A tube phono amp would probably better your sound quality. Boston must Java have a few fine Hifi shops always best to. Find a good shop and ask them of how to improve your system. Sometimes they will loan you stuff to try in your system. Keep rocking. G.
George another record I didn't like but now love is baby face willette face to face. Didn't like the organ at all. I now love it. Him and larry young are awesome.
Excellent choices. They are true jazz classics recordings. Don Cherry Where is Brooklyn should be included as a classic recording. The sound and the music hypnotizes me. Best time to listen to it is around midnights.
Hi thanks yes. I need to revise this. Love don cherry. Need his other two blue notes.

@@garyrobinson8665 jazz is like that though the more time you spend on it the more you hear. That’s why jazz is the best.
Nice one George. Like you I slowed down at the end of the year too. Hard to choose eight and to miss out Idle Moments or Maiden Voyage among others 🙂
Your right I be shown them before I love Herbie.

Don’t know if you have done one of these with your favorite Jazz albums of all time ? Would be interested to see that. Also best Tone poet releases.
Hi I done a tone poet a while back also top and fav 80s series.
Been going to do an all favourite at some point.

The Joe Henderson next month is a bolt on classic, Inner Urge.
