This is Boulder Spring (Little Bear) in Seminole Forest. This spring is magnitude 4 and runs into the Sulfur Run, which joins Seminole Creek. Seminole turns into Black Water Creek and then flows into the Wekiva River downstream from Katie’s Landing. The Wekiva River joins the dark waters St. Johns River and then journeys a couple hundred miles north to the Atlantic Ocean in Jacksonville. After heavy rains the water shed fills, trickles down through the soil and limestone and seeps into the aquifer. This rainwater seepage increases pressure on the water and springs began to increase output. When this process takes place, the carbonic acid in the rain deteriorates the limestone and dislodges shark’s teeth, stingray mouth plates, and other fossils. It is illegal to dig, but skimming or waving the surface is allowed. I do not remove artifacts or fossils from any lands or waterways in Florida without permission.
