Brother what a perfect video for me right now. I drove over the peace and myakka river this last weekend and i thought dang i gotta get down there and explore. I live in Bradenton so its not far at all but i realized i don't know alot about fossil hunting. I mean i get it, scoop up some rock and gravel and search thru it, duh lol but theres got to be a right way to do it. Thats where this video comes in extremely handy. If i dont go hog hunting this weekend ill be in Arcadia searching for dinosaurs!!! Appreciate ya brother!!!
That's what it's up here for. I was hoping it would give people a fighting chance their first time out. If you want to do a deep dive, some of my other Fossil videos explain more and even say some other spots. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Good luck out there. Let me know if you have any questions.
Do you think if I were to head up or down river 5-10 miles the picking would be better?? Places less people have been. I'm a solo hunter so I can literally go anywhere and I have a small canoe with a trolling motor so I can get away from any crowd that may be there is my thinking
The further you can distance the better chance of finding deposits that others have not but the Arcadia section of the river gets heavy traffic through the whole area. Good news is there are a lot of fossils for everyone. I do have a lot of videos but most are just fun shorts to keep daily content rolling. My longer videos have a several fossil hunts.
Dude and I just finished your video and listen man your awesome! Because your very right about spots and it’s nice for someone to let the public know where to start. 10/10 video bro
Really appreciate that!! I'm glad our videos can help. When we started there wasn't much help on how to get into it because everyone wants to keep their spots secret.
Yeah man your right. Well there is a mineral/crystal Called Turgite / iridescent rainbow hematite from Graves Mountain in Lincolnton county, GA And it’s in my backyard basically. So if you ever get out there give me a shout and I’ll show y’all the ropes. No fossils out their but beautiful material and keep all you can find area (look it up on TH-cam just type Graves Mtn) open twice a year
Just took my boat and my family out yesterday for the first time! A little sketchy cause I have a 17ft bow rider so at points I had to lift the motor and push or pull the boat through the shallows but we found 43 shark teeth! No megs tho! Deff wanna go back and find the good hidden spots cause my 10 year old is dying to find a meg!
That's really exciting. I have been thinking about taking my 15ft skiff out on the river depending on water depths in the near future. Glad you had fun. I have made a couple videos sharing locations. Have you checked them out? Only a few months out from the start of the real fossil season!!
Cool video, thanks. I was just down there visiting my mom, and we took a fan boat ride, the driver said this year might be the best because all the banks got carved out after the hurricane flooded it
Greatly Appreciated! I knew peace river was the best place in FL to find megs but I had no idea where to start! Hoping to find a complete one soon! Found my first a week or so ago by Mayport Naval Base (Jacksonville, FL) little baby one, pretty cool!
That is awesome that you found a Megalodon tooth. I'm glad I could help and I have a video talking about another spot. (More spots will be revealed in the future) Good luck out there and if you have any questions feel free to let me know.
Yes, there are, but it is illegal to take them from the river unless you are native American, I believe. Check the regulations before you head out next time just to be 100% sure.
AMAZING video - I was happy to subscribe. Quick question, the peace river canoe rental company said there is no point in coming in the next few weeks because the water level of the river is still too high. In your opinion, is it worth it to walk along the river bank and snorkel in the water to look for shark teeth? Any advice you have would be much appreciated. Love the work - thank you!
If the water is high there wont be much river bank. That being said the river is at 4.5ft right now where it crosses under hwy 70 so there should be areas to explore. We will possibly be out on the river at some point in the next handful of days checking it out. If the water is high in an are you are in make sure to know if there are alligators around there were a lot last time we were out. Be safe and have fun. Thanks for watching.
@@TerraSharkTV Thanks for the quick reply. I will be on the lookout for your videos regardless. Worst case scenario i'll just go in February. Yes, alligators could make could make snorkeling challenging haha
I will hopefully be able to make some content for everyone to see by the end of the weekend and I will hopefully let you know how the river is behaving.
We did get out on the river today. Water is still high, and the banks that we used to recognize have definitely changed. But we were able to find some teeth and hopefully I can do some editing and post a video tomorrow.
@@TerraSharkTV Thanks for letting me know. Saw your video, it was great! Yeah, we'll probably hold off until February or March to avoid those gators haha
Planning a trip from fort myers. What state park and boat ramp is your last of the video? Me and my wife big mining nuts so have always wanted to go fossil hunting. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work.
We don't generally go to State parks for fossils. Just some of the county boat ramps. The one at Brownville boat ramp in Arcadia is great especially if you don't have a kayak/canoe. You can follow a trail right to the Fossil deposit. Parking at Brownville is $2 I believe. Just something to keep in mind to make sure to bring a little cash and grab the parking slip in the entrance for your car. Good luck out there. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
If you know, you know. Haha. Can't give up all of my spots but if you have been in these sections of river you begin to recognize things. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks so much for this video! We’ve found hundreds of shark teeth at Venice and Englewood beach but I really want to find a megalodon tooth! A couple questions. What’s the best time of year to go? Can there be alligators even when the water is super low to be on the lookout for? They sort of terrify me. 😬 Also, do new teeth wash in all the time or is what’s there been there, and there will be less and less the more that people find? Thanks so much!
The best time of year is December-March. Yes, there can be alligators year round. The low water level helps you to know where they are so you can keep an eye on them, though, and generally, they try to stay away from areas of higher people traffic. The river is always exposing a washing in newly exposed fossils, so you are sure to find some if you get into a good spot. Good luck out there. Over the next month or so, I'm trying to put a more comprehensive how-to video for the river. If you don't go by then, it may have some helpful tips for you.
@@TerraSharkTV if you do hope you could do a video of it. We have some good rivers and creeks but don’t know if they have a lot of fossils. Ocmulgee river, Altamaha….
www.georgiasfossils.com/23-coastal-ga-locations-1957.html Here is a map showing formation ages of certain areas of Georgia. And it looks like the Ocmulgee is a good place to find some Oligocene fossils like sand dollars and such.
People hold there fossil spots very close to their chest. It's ok that most want a secret spot to themselves but I wanted people to be able to go out for a day and have success. A lot of work goes in the scout for fossils and locations but we will all be better off the more people we can have enjoy and appreciate the hobby and history.

Can you pilot a jet ski up and around that waterway?
I have seen it during certain parts of the year. You just have to watch for obstacles in the shallows.
