- I bought the dream Volvo, the manual transmission, AWD, turbocharged, inline 5 cylinder, sport sedan. Unfortunately it seemed like it would need a mountain of work to get it back on the road so I let it go the next day for a few hundred over what I paid. Turns out it just needed a little work to sort out the mechanical issues and a lot of love in the cosmetic department. Jeremiah has been hard at work for 2 weeks and has this car mostly sorted out now. We decided to jump back in, take a look at the progress and go for a spin to see how it drives now.

I'm glad it went to a Volvo enthusiast. He seems very knowledgeable about these P2 Volvos. Too many S60/V70Rs have ended up in the hands of neglectful owners. These cars need tons of attention and care. It takes a very dedicated person to properly look after one of these cars and he seems like he's up for it.

jfv65 Just FYI that exterior color is called flash green metallic. Flash green/Atacama Rs fetch a pretty penny. They’re pretty much the most sought after color combo. The holy grail of R’s is a flash green and Atacama V70R with a 6 speed manual and the rear facing 3rd row seat option.

10 yrs ago I went to buy an S60R from a dealer I talked to on the phone. When I got there, the salesman said he sold it to someone 10 minutes before I got there. I almost killed him.

I’ve owned 4 Volvos and they are really great cars. Being European, they require maintenance, so if you’re coming from a Toyota or Honda, maybe this isn’t your cup of tea.
With that said, there are a ton of videos and 3 Volvo forums, I’m a fan of Matthew’s Volvo Site. I learned how to change brake pads, replaced a blower in the heating/ac system, abs module all from videos or reading these forums. Been to many junkyards pulling parts.
I have had some really unusual repairs to my Volvos, stuff that didn’t happen with other cars I’ve owned. Things like the AC Evaporator leaking in my S70, the master switch for my windows, and the ABS Module replacement; all of these are close to 100% failures on almost every S70. Goofy stuff like the visor breaking, cup holder breaking, rear torsion bar snapping. Replaced coil packs on my S60 twice. Gotta always use OEM Struts or those from a IPD or FCP, something about the cap at the top of the strut.
But the good news is that the automatics in the S60 and S70 are made by Asin, and along with the 5 cylinder engine, it is a bulletproof combination. Volvo has been making Turbos for a long time, so they are reliable. The standard 2005 S60 with the 2.5T low pressure turbo puts out 208 HP and is pretty zippy for a 3500 lb car, this is no lightweight. These cars have very low value and can be picked up for a song, yet they drive great and look awesome. I had the same clearcoat peel on my S70’s, but if you keep them waxed, the paint underneath is very good. Plus, you have the legendary Volvo safety with crumple zones and plenty of airbags. Gotta also add, the seats on the S70 are about the most comfortable I’ve ever had, I even slept in my car one night, there was no room at my brother in law’s hunting camp.
Old Volvo's never die. I have 2x XC70 (2006 & 2008 modell) and the newest 'only' has 420.000km on the clock. The look and drive like new. Volvo for life :-)

I have the 2007 S60 T2.5 and It's great. keep in mind I'm only 21 years old. It's got some issues tho. Like the fan kicks in super early, a rach and pinion major leak, and a trani minor leak. But It runs and drives absolutely phenomenal, and I love it.
Holako Aljbar My 1997 Volvo 850 also has a leaking steering rack. That seems to be a common problem with higher mileage Volvos.

I had an 05 S60 R for almost eight years..I have a B8.5 A4 now but think about my R I sold literally all the time. I fan out when I see them still like I did before I got mine. They are VERY complex animals though , and require an awesome balanced mechanic.
Yea knew a friend with an S60R and they are over engineered to the point that they get too complex for their own good when they start to wear. His was starting to need a lot of repairs I was fearing it was nearing end of itself around 200K miles my friend ended up having engine and trans rebuild and keeping it after I turned him down for the sale.
But instead of me buying his S60R I ended up getting an brand new XC70 T6 AWD wagon instead and I put over half a million miles on it since owning it about 10ish years... nothing wrong with it and drives, runs and feels like day 1 still... and she still pulls so strong and gives people huge surprise when I overtake them in their sportier cars racing for merging lanes or exits..

I got an 02 S60 2.4t and it has been a great car. Plenty of power and solid as a rock construction. Lots of them still on the road.

I have the S60 and it had the same issue with the crank case breather system and the intercooler hose blowing off. Engine was covered is oil and sooth. Previous owner blocked the pvc rather than remove the intake manifold and replace the breather box. That one bolt under the manifold was a nightmare and was partially stripped by a previous mechanic. After getting those things fixed at a cost of €65 in parts and about ten hours over a weekend I got the whole think running beautifully and did a super cleanup on the engine bay. I love the five cyclinder turbo Volvo's.

They're awesome, superbly comfortable, surprisingly fast/fun and easy/not stupid expensive to work on for how good of a car it is. Great cars.
One of my favorite cars I ever owned. 2005 S60R, dad got it new, I bought from him at 40k miles, drove to nearly 150. such a good car. Mine was perfect though, and had the optional body kit, in metallic grey with sand interior. Now its with a volvo museum and even in better shape than I sold it a few years back.
I just bought one of these with 245k miles on it. It's a 2004 S60. Manual, in pretty good shape, just a few cosmetic things needed. Runs clean

Man, you guys are local to me - had my R for 7 years. Really love those cars - and really love seeing the Shelby Rampage in the background...
9:50 they cost $25 and are a pita - and the plastic fingers will break over time... but it's an easy fix. Also the 7 clips on the top of the bumper are nearly identical to the 5/16th ones - used those for years.
12:10 Bosch is oem on the plugs and really are the best in these cars - Volvo ones are obviously good too.
12:50 PCV by Satan - this is amazingly true.
14:00 blowing the intermediate hose is the clamp issue - it's a mess. the squirrelly on it front wheel drive only - 1 will bet bucks that the awd isn't working on it (and it isn't easy to tell...)
20:15 Hoping Jermiah sees this - Eibach isn't the only one making a lowering kit or coilovers for it - check out FCP Euro and the BC kit for them - He's right about there being only one strut available, and they quit selling it to the aftermarket - Volvo only on the 4C - great system when it's working, but no easy replacement other than Volvo or coilovers - gotta trick the 4C out so don't forget the electrical guts on them...

Actually I can agree from experience, my dad briefly had a 2001 emerald green S60 R. The problem was, that the ford parts were absolutely horrid. The fuses were very cheaply made and came off of a contour, the transmission came out of a Taurus and had as much durability as a piece of paper, and the starter motor often conked out without warning and it would never start consistently. It would also skip gears in regards to the weak transmission and cheaply made torque converter. It was so comfortable and had an excellent stereo, but it was a nightmare to live with. Monthly repair costs usually topped $800 before we had to say farewell.
Knowledge is power. Jeremiah sure is knowledgeable about these Volvo models...
My first car was a 04 S60 2.4. I absolutely loved that car, still miss it to this day.

@@elongatedpikachu4029 I seen people shim the blocks between the cylinder walls with feeler gauges from harbor freight for like 15 bucks and that pretty much fixes the cracking problem.
THISGUY a lot of the p2 Volvo’s have terrible transmission problems. Especially the t6 s80
I used to have a 2004 Volvo S60 with a turbocharged 5-cylinder but front-wheel drive and automatic transmission. It was black also and I really liked it. One of the keys for it also had a broken spring.
My daily is a 2000 S80 and I love volvos. Great stuff man. Keep this up!
Safe reliable, its hard to let go of a good car like that and if you do you will find a better and newer one, I have a 2004 Volvo S60R 120k paid $3425 brand new Cooper tires and new brakes and rotors were included, the guy had a dealership and just needed to sell this gem

Volvo’s are great cars.. my girlfriend has a 2004 S80 AWD with the turbo 5.. 225k miles and is still a rock solid car that’s pretty easy to maintain.

jason9022 they say ignorance is bliss.. but I’m one of those who need to know the health of my vehicles all times, I’m big on preventative maintenance.. I drive a ton of miles and long road trips.. fear of breaking down lol. My girlfriend says I’m too OCD about cars lol.
When I first got my R I had no clue what it was. I just saw that it was for sale and it was all wheel drive 2.5 L five cylinder with a turbo that’s the only thing that caught my attention. But when I got to the dealership the first day it just came in and didn’t even pass state inspection yet but I got to test drive it. Came back the next day and the guy told me I was just in time because I had 30 people ahead of me diedshe had 66,000 original miles excellent interior and had regular maintenance done.....year later coming to find out she’s most definitely a money pit but I enjoy her. One thing I’ll never forget when I left the dealership the guy that sold me the car told me “You’re truly one lucky ass man” till this day I hold his word to it.
I want to know more about that red Dodge Charger sitting behind it. My dad had a 1986 Shelby Charger with a turbo. Thing was pretty cool back in the day.
Monroe actually do 4C strut for S60r: C2501 front, C1501 rear. I bought S60r with the previous owner installed 4WD strut and it`s definitely not have S60r spirit. Then i install Monroe and in advanced mode its steer like a racing car. You should buy them too!

I’m having rebuild an 09’ s60 2.5T that I’m rebuilding the front suspension from hitting a kernel on the right side with a glancing blow, and unfortunately I had to repair the wheels (should’ve bought new wheels) as the are Vossen wheels made from T6 aluminum which is HARD to weld. Now they need straightening, damn I went from awesome runner to crapola.
Oh and H&R DO make springs for this car. Not just eibach. Nice purchase!
Volvo made some amazing engines for about 10 years there, but when they got bought by the Chinese they focused their efforts on China. That's why they offer no engines over 2.0L today, cuz anything over that size is taxed prohibitively in China. The guy you sold it to is really knowledgeable RE Volvo's. I'm glad you sold it to him.
I think the current XC90 is really impressive but the whole “R-Design” line is a huge let down, not fast or fun. 🍻

I had the same problem with my Fiero GT. After I replaced the master and Slave Cylinders, spent hours trying to bleed the “air” out of the lines, I realized that one clip was missing from the shift cables. 🙄 I popped it in place and it shifted like butter !

I felt the same way with my 85 e30 318i I got that I rebuilt the head because the t stat was sticking and didn't trust the head gasket. I proted and polished the head and intake with a full aftermarket exhaust. I also put a cam in it as well I miss that thing to be honest because it was a fun little thing

I love this style of new vids you're doing but like I said before maybe re-name them or don't say you're "flipping cars" in a day or maybe just mask a little more of the info. The IRS and state departments do look on youtube pages believe it or not (just ask Dan or Randy from AutoAuctionRebuilds). What I mean is they will hit you hard for title-hopping if they see these vids. It's 5 a year under Kansas law so stay safe man. Really like these videos
You can run the AWD S60 nonR struts no problem. I did on my 2004. Connected resisitors to trick the computer to not throw a code and think that the electronic solenoids were there.
Can you elaborate a little please? you replaced all 4 struts? What brand? The front left strut on my '06 R has a faulty solenoid (per diagnostic) causing the whole 4C system to not function and display the "chassis settings service" message. Would be nice if I could somehow get that solenoid to wake up

You have to buy the S60R shocks because of the 3 suspension settings on the dash. All your shocks and struts are electronically controlled by the computer...I own 2 S60R's (2004 and 2007). The 2004 comes with 300HP and (I think) 250ftlbs of torque. The 2007 comes with 300HP and 298ftlbs of torque. Both have 17 lbs of boost from factory. Absolutely love this car. Would never get rid of it. The guy in the RT Charger was quite embarrassed when he couldn't beat me.
My 2004 Volvo S60R has 116k Miles (178K kilometres). I doubt I will ever sell it.

i bought my 07 S60R about a year and a half-2 years ago, and the previous owner was the worst owner of all time. i'm surprised he let it get to the condition it was in. i seriously hope he sticks to commuter cars like camrys and corollas instead of meticulously designed cars like these.
Reminds of a story my father told. In 1940 he had been seeing a Cord 810 (1936-1937, think Roll$ Royce of its day) parked in a yard for a year and never moved. He finally got up the nerve to approach the homeowner to ask about the car. Told it was broken - transmission(?) - he offered to buy (say $200 which was like 6 months pay then). He saved up, bought it, and had a friend tow it home. Diagnosed part needed in transmission ($50 another month's pay). Got it running and maintained for the next 10-years. Secret, front wheel drive, went great through Minnesota snow, also had power so made money pulling cars out of snow banks and off railroad tracks.
Putting S60R/V70R Front 4-Piston Calipers & BREMBO 09861411 rotors on any other P2 Volvo (even the XC90 or S80) makes for a nice (and comparatively inexpensive) bolt-on upgrade in stopping power.
Jeremiah seems like a cool guy hope he enjoys the car for many years to come

I rather see these type of videos and people who take care of cars and not ruin or smash them for stupid videos just to make views specially these old cars are just fabulous alot better then new cars alot better.

We have a 2011 C30 R with the Polestar chip and 14,000 miles (was my 5-mile work commute car for 4 years and now our around-town, pampered, fair weather driver). We also have a 2018 XC60 Polestar (took delivery in Sweden) that we drive just about everywhere. We’re definitely going to stay with Volvo. In a couple of years, we’ll most likely get the XC90.
