Regis Riley yeah he is more than a soldier and instrument of war now he has a choice if the clones didn't have them inhibitor chips they'd have likely disobeyed that order even if they were conditioned to follow that order some would follow it but some would disobey and it would cause chaos throughout the Grand Army of the Republic
I think this is the moment that transcended every other from this season for me. Rex is no longer a clone, he's simply a man.. who's saddened by the fact that everything he's ever loved is gone. All his morals, all his codes, all his family has been nothing more than a grand scheme that he played a part in. I can't imagine bearing that weight.
Camera Punk it probably felt like that for him at that moment and he had to live with it for 20 years, thinking it was a waste, until the events of the Original Trilogy, and Rebels.
Very good points, and ones that I have been wondering as both a fan and a writer. If you were a character in the SW galaxy and you discovered that not only was your Chancellor a Sith Lord but that he had been manipulating the Clone Wars on both sides and then managed to set the Jedi up as patsies which then allowed said Sith to commit Galaxy-wide genocide on the Jedi by turning the entire GAR against them, and then you realize it was all part of a millennia-long plan the Sith had to get rid of the Jedi and consolidate control over the entire Republic and turn it into an Empire, which they only would have been able to do by infiltrating every corner of the Republic’s infrastructure, slowly manipulating everything as the centuries would go by. Basically, everything you were brought up to believe in about the Galactic Republic was nothing but pure BS no thanks to the Sith. What would you as a Star Wars character do? What would your thought process be once you have those realizations?
If she didn't worry about getting Rex back, her focus would have been to leave, there go she would try to make it to the hanger (no other options) and Tax would be there because he knows thats her only exit. She would hide and have to make it to the controls. Im just imagining a scenario that isn't cannon. Some she dies immediately, others she doesn't. There is no "actually"
@@demosxn6722 Yeah, you can make the case either way that she would have gotten out or died quickly. Personally, I think she could have easily found a way to escape. But she needed Rex.
@@rosesweetcharlotte Yeah, I know, I dont think that leaving him would have ever crossed her mind. It was tough to see Jessy in this episode. That ending too. I had to take a second after watching it.
@@jcplays3842 I am glad that Rex is canonically on Endor in that attack with Han and survives all this. Part of me wants to think he was also in the last fleet in rise of skywalker.
@@lucasgibbs4050 Actually, the prequels show that the Jedi have strayed far from what they’re supposed to be. They’re not supposed to be lapdogs of an organisation like the Republic. They’re supposed to be independent peacekeepers and mediators. Vessels of the force. Extensions of the will of the Force. They are supposed to serve the Force alone. The Prequels show that the Jedi serve the Republic at the expense of serving the will of the Force. So in a way they’re not true Jedi at all anymore. After leaving the corrupt order. Ahsoka’s evolution is written in such a way that one could make the reasonable conclusion that Ahsoka is more of a Jedi than any of them in that she is closer to what a Jedi is supposed to be than anyone who serves the order at this time.
Obi-wan, Qui-Gon, Luke, Grogu (i guess) and Rey all seem to have a running for that title. Sure, Disney ruined Luke and made Rey and Grogu to be sold to the audience, but they're still incredibly pure.
Without those inhibitor chips, that would make this statement seem so hypocritically. With them, that makes the whole Order 66 situation a tragic irony.
When Ashoka took Rex’s helmet off to speak to him face to face. And Rex has tears in his eyes, this scene hit the feels hard. This would make an amazing movie.
It was an amazing 4 episodes . Honestly, this is the most satisfied and buzzing about star wars since I saw all 6 movies for the first time in 08 . Everything since then has been pretty meh and dead average at best. This arc makes me wannacwatch it again and again and my god how I feel sorry for the group within the fanbase who won't go near this series because its animated. This actually probably is the most enjoyable and emotional thing I've watched that's come from Lucas film . A definite 9.5/10 for me . I thought spider man into the spider verse was the best animated feature ever but this is equel to if not better
Rex keeping on his helmet because he doesn’t want Ahsoka to see him cry is so powerful. It kinda feel like it’s representative of alot of guys. We’re always told that real men don’t cry, to stay strong, no matter what. And Ahsoka taking it off is like telling that it IS okay. Even though he’s a clone bred for command and war, he’s also a living being.
It also means quite a lot for a clone to cry as they are bred to have a very high tolerance for stress. Meaning that if a clone is crying it is because they are in a extreme amount of emotional pain.
@@SomeGuy-so3kk also he only cries for a few seconds and his breathing stays calm, love the fact that he is still ready to throw no matter what cs that's what soldiers do. As a soldier myself stress is very bad as it is a distraction from the fight which makes me love this scene.
If you watched Five's story arc, you would know that clones are engineered to be resistant to all kinds of stress that the war could throw at them. Rex is not only a clone, but is also a heavily experienced war veteran. The fact that he cries in this scene should convey just how devastated he is.
I was really hoping Ahsoka would maybe stroke his face or give him a little peck on the cheek. Not a romantic thing, but like a little sis trying to comfort a distraught older brother.
This is probably the worst scenario for Rex. The very fact that he admits that they have to kill his family because they're all programmed like the droids they immeasurably fought against, survived and disassociated with (especially in the face of Krell) has got to be killing him inside. Probably thought they would all go down together one way or another, but never like this. Him and a Jedi vs his now faceless family.
After Order 66, you never really see any clone’s face again except for Rex and maybe the ones flying the ship. In Star Wars, that’s equivalent to losing your humanity.
it's interesting if you think about it, chronologically rex is younger than ahsoka, yet biologically he is older. so in some instances he acts like a big brother to her, and in another (like here, trying to hide his tears) like younger. kinda interesting dynamic
It's the first time in the series I think I really thought about it. He really isn't very old at all and he is fated to die a pretty early death and all he's ever known is war.
@@LionKing-ui9po We know from AotC that production of the Jango Fett clones had started ten years before the events of that movie. The war took about three years. Rex is identified as being one of the older serving clones, but he is still only 13
Reminds me of too much of Darman from the Repiblic commando books. The first one played into the whole advanced aging process. Even when he looks like he's in his twenties he's as old as a school boy.
“Loyalty means everything to the clones.” Anakin is right. Rex’s loyalty towards Ahsoka means everything to him. He is willing to do the hardest thing he ever has to do which is to fight his brothers in arms to save a friend. I can’t imagine how torn up he is inside just admitting that his brothers don’t care about the two of them anymore.
It gets worse. Rex knows exactly how it felt to be under the chip's control, he knows how the other clones are feeling right now. And whatever that feeling was, it was bad enough for Rex to immediately decide that death was a better option for them than living that way
Loyalty also meant everything to Anakin that is why he understood the clones the most. however Anakin's dedication to loyalty to friends and loved ones is what in the end corrupted and twisted him because everyone betrayed him.
I’m not a person who cries about scenes but when Ashoka took his helmet off and there were tears in Rex’s eyes I lost it. Rex was willing to kill his own brothers to save Ashoka. But this was the beauty of this episode and of clone wars in general. It combined the scenes that make you cry but the scenes that make you laugh. This is what Disney needs to stick to!! Not necessarily Clone Wars but the moments where you feel for the characters but also enjoy a good laugh!
0:47-1:00 Rex’s shoulders falling in defeat after voicing his realization that the men he knew aren’t the ones down there ready to go down with the ship and take him and Ahsoka with them. And Ahsoka taking off Rex’s helmet to reveal not a battle-hardened clone trooper, but a battle-worn man who has soldiered through tremendous loss and anguish all in the name of a Republic doomed to fall by the hands of the very men he fought for and with for years. I am in such emotional pain.
you put it beautifully, and I'll be the first to admit I rarely ever cry but the last episode may have been the hardest I've held back my tears in a long while
What made this emotional to me was on second 47 or 48 when they cut to that shot of Ashoka and Rex staring at each other. Ashoka’s eyes widened and Rex’s head bows slightly and his shoulders relax. That body language speaks a thousand words with no words spoken. To think, their commander, their brother must betray them to do what’s right. Ashoka felt his pain with the force and she took his helmet off as to say, you’re not just a soldier, you’re a man with feelings and that is ok. A Jedi would not do what Ashoka did at that moment and a soldier that only cares about his duty would not shed a tear. They are more than that.
Darwin Umanzor, Rex was speaking the cold hard logical truth and his heart was breaking at the same time. I loved how Rex and Ahsoka were friends here, not captain and general.
Yeah but the thing is, most people just say "Yeah Clone Wars is the best thing in the entire universe!" Meanwhile they pretty much only mean S6 and S7. Because as a whole, CW isn't superb.
@@fistofram5526bullshit. seen the whole thing back to front and back again a million times and it is the best thing star wars has put out. it wouldn’t be so good without the support of the OG trilogy and the prequels, but it actually expands the world and immerses you in it. it shows anakins downfall. introduces one of the best, if not the best character ahsoka to the world. turns maul from a petty villain to one of the best characters in the SW universe. gives life to padme and anakins relationship to make his actions make way more sense. shows how the jedi council failed him and ahsoka far better than the prequels did so we see they are corrupt and imperfect themselves. it does so fucking much standalone it’s just good, but the support, exposition and justification it adds to the universe is far more than any other piece of star wars media
@@ayooobro Delusional, and probably just nostalgic. 30% of the clone wars is actual content that progresses and shows the story, the other 70% is just dumb filler with 0 sense. In fairness, Ahsoka also killed two clones when Order 66 first started. They both were caught completely off guard in the moment and were left with no other choice.
@@tig.v2374 was 3 clones, actually. When the squad of clones came into the bridge with jesse, ahsoka deflected a bolt at jesse, he dodged it and it nailed a clone.
@@tig.v2374 There's also context to consider. She only knew about the chip because Rex managed to drop a hint about Fives. Literally no one knew what was going on and the clones DID try to kill them. Self defense wasn't unwarranted in Yoda's or any other Jedi's case.
@@tig.v2374 @Tig. V Incorrect in this video th-cam.com/video/D8PSZ3M2SZA/w-d-xo.html Ashoka actually deflects the blaster bolts into the two clones arms. Thats why she closes the door. Its only when Jessie and the other clones come does she deflect a shot into a clones chest
For me, this was the scene that made the show. Not that it hadn't been great before. But that conversation, that music, that tear... this felt like such a pivotal encapsulation of the tragedy of the entire Clone Wars in a way no other scene had represented yet. This and the very last scene with you know who...
@invalid username It depends, not everything is black and white. Life is full of greys. Still is not like i'm a badass having to make though calls or whatever a man of action does. I doubt any of us would make a decision to survive.
You NEVER hear Rex talking like this EVER in the entire series. He has always been a bastion of loyalty, dependability, and concern. You never hear him sweating like this. Yes, there were some hairy moments, but none like THIS moment. To hear Rex talking this way is heartbreaking! There's no other way to put it. And what a touch of art when Ahsoka takes his helmet off and you see the tears... he wouldn't even LOOK at Ahsoka... gawd... It's so easy to forget that under all of that stoic, scarred armor is a terrified man fighting for his life... afraid of his own brothers at arms... his own family! The Great Jedi Purge is just an all-around tragedy. NO ONE was safe from stress, conflict, or consequence... not even Darth Sidious and he was the victor!
Clearly the chip once removed changed his perception of his own existence, just like it did with Fives. Though Fives wouldn't even be the best example, since he was always self aware and it meant a great deal for him to have the free will that droids didn't. Tup and Fives' final lines talking about a nightmare finally ending makes me think once Order 66 happens, they just snap, their consciousness fall asleep and they probably spectate their actions powerless as if they were having a terrible nightmare. The Carnage of Krell was also a strong episode for the clones and Rex, the moment they killed eachother thinking it was an enemy deception was heartbreaking, that's when we found out Rex's loyalty was truly towards his brothers. Rex's arc throughout the show was the best one, it led to this moment and to this particular scene. These episodes weren't a punch to the guts it was a stab to the heart..
This really is such a heartbreaking scene. For 7 seasons, we have seen that Rex was a proud trooper of the GAR. He was a leader who loved and deeply cared for his men. He was a man who would go to any lengths for his men. Who would never ask his brothers to do anything he wouldn't do himself. He was willing to disobey a direct order from a Jedi general to save Fives and Jesse from execution. He was willing to infiltrate a heavily defended Separatist facility to rescue Echo based on the mere implication that Echo was still alive. He was willing to board a Separatist shuttle midflight to rescue Tup. Hell, he led a mutiny against General Krell in order to avenge Waxer and the men of the 501st and 212th who died because of Krell's manipulations. Time and time again, we saw that Rex always put his men first, always fought alongside them, knew all their names, always shared their burdens. We saw that he would gladly die a thousand times for his comrades. More than almost anything, he loved the GAR and everything it stood for. The only thing that he perhaps loved as much was his friendship with Anakin and Ashoka. Both of whom shared the same burdens he did. But now, as the Republic that he had fought and sacrificed so hard for came crashing down, he now had to see that everything he loved was a lie. The men that he had led into battle, that he had gone so far for were now his enemies. The men who he had been willing to die for were now willing to kill him, and the only way he could see for him and Ashoka to come out alive was to kill them. Everything that Rex believed in, loyalty, duty, honor, all of it was a lie. The clones believed themselves to be better than droids, but now he saw that just like droids, they were programmed, programmed to fulfill an objective, even at the cost of their own lives. Like the cruiser they're in, Rex's whole world is crashing down.
@Dylan Attias it's not ironic. Loyalty does mean everything to the clones. Whether it's Rex or the rest of the company. Both are extremely loyal to their cause.
It gets extra sad when you consider that the first time they ever animated tears for this show was for Waxer after the Umbaran friendly fire scene. There's a very meta connection deep down there.
“I hate to tell you this, but they don’t care. This ship is going down. And those soldiers, my brothers, are willing to die and take you and me along with them!” -Rex That line brought me so close to tearing up. 😢But it was when Ahsoka removed Rex’s helmet to show he was actually crying that finally set off the waterworks for me. 😭
This quote is exactly why I came to this clip. I know it’s late, but I just find it so powerful and really representative of who Rex really is on the inside. On the outside, he’s just a badass clone. On the inside, he has extreme loyalty to not only the Republic, but to his brothers even though they turn against him. He’s right. Those clones ARE willing to die, and he feels so much emotion because of his tremendous loss experience that he cannot hold in the stress that he was designed to withstand. He cries. A battle hardened clone, crying.
Strong people also cry. We can only take so much before we finally either hit our limit or face something that we are never really prepared for. In this case, the reality that everything that Rex had fought and bleed so hard for had ultimately been all for nothing, as he could now see the writing on the wall, now that the propaganda has been stripped away. At that point, he knew that there was nothing left for him. The world that he knew was now long gone, while the new world that would take its place was just starting to sprout.
0:58 seeing Rex shed a tear because he knows how helpless the situation is, that’s what made me break in this scene. Ever since I was a kid, Rex was always one of my utmost favorite Star Wars characters.
@@realityisanillusion2312 Even worse, how many *other* clones were shedding tears under their helmets? Do you think Jesse was teary-eyed as he was accusing Rex of treason? That perhaps, their eyes were the only things left that you could still see their true feelings in, even as the chips forced their bodies and even their mouths to do and speak against their will?
Masks worn by villains in SW are supposed to prevent the audience from seeing their humanity. That’s why it’s significant when vader asks Luke to let him look on him with his own eyes
Literally one Of the most gut-wrenching moments in the final episode for Rex and Ahsoka, especially the former as literally he's conflicted on killing his own "brothers", especially Jesse. Just the emotions and expression in Rex's face surmise this scene at 0:59-1:03 on how saddened and broken he feels.😢😢

Rex went from just being another clone at the beginning of the Clone Wars to becoming one of my favourite characters. Absolutely brilliant writing and character development. 😭
"And this Soldiers.... My Brothers....." This is so Brutal when you think about it.....Rex know these Guys and he knows they are Good in there Hearts...
It would be an honor to be a clone in general, imagine you are a duplication of one of the most incredible men ever. And his legacy lives through you and your brothers. That’s a real honor
Rex: So we're just going to surrender? Admit defeat? Is that it? Imagine Rex has fought in one of the biggest war in galactic history and here is when he loses all hope and sees no future. But at the same time, he asks Ahsoka what will happen now because he knows somehow somewhere Ahsoka just like Anakin, will pull victory from the jaws of defeat. He said experience outranks everything but here he defers to Ahsoka...a kid almost "10 years younger than him" since Rex is 13 but with accelerated aging is 26 and Ahsoka is around 16 or 17. As always, she inspires those around her to more than what they think they can achieve. He believes in her just as she believes in him and their mutual trust is more than justified.
0:30 After he said that, i bet he's like i can't believe i just said that, we understand you Rex, and it's even more sad when you cry, we fell in love with the clones since the first episode of Clone Wars and all suddenly when Order 66 happens, it's a tragedy that all this time they did not know their true purposes and they being brainwashed because of the inhibitor chips.....
It is possible. Until your loyalties begin to conflict. Rex was taught to be loyal to both the Republic that he fought for, along with the Jedi generals that he fought along side with. But it wasn't the republic that he built a strong familial relationship with. The clone wars is simply proof of the bonds that can only be formed on the battlefield
@@ethanharmer5151 It really isn't possible for a human being. Human Beings are emotional creatures. It's not possible for them to be loyal and unemotional at the same time. At best humans can suppress emotion, but not indefinitely.
0:47 Its not the body language of Rex fully realizing what he just said is 100% true Its not the fact that he was probably shedding a tear underneath his helmet. Its the fact until the moment Ahsoka took off his helmet you can see for even a split second after the removal that Rex maintained full eye contact with Ahsoka but then immediately turned away and broke it to try and not let Ahsoka see that the Captain that been through so much shit in this war, THIS is what downright almost broke him. Seeing his brothers succumb the horrible bio-organic programming of Order 66 and know they are going to try and achieve it or die trying. God this scene and the music choice just gives you a haymaker to the gut.
For me, he was the embodiment of a man for when I was a kid (still is) And to see him cry, damn it hurt so much. It hurts so much to see your hero cry.
@@MarvelDCFan4004 and to further deepen my sadness, I had always hoped that somehow, Rex wouldn't go through with order 66 (back then I didn't know about the inhibitor chips) and now, I'm not sure which would've hurt more.
What I find incredible about this final arc is that it portrays an event that we already know the outcome of and have already seen before, and yet it still manages to deeply sadden and completely shock me
That is the power of good storytelling. Stakes can be created in many ways within a story even though the outcome may be known from before (in this case Order 66 being inevitable).
These scenes and these characters are exactly why the Clone Wars is such an icon. Instead of relying on age old storytelling tricks designed for cheap and easy viewing (cough cough Rebels), this feels like a love story from the creators to the characters. It's not the ending they deserved, but it's played out so beautifully. The animation almost looks hand painted, the emotions are tangible and strike deep chords, and it never feels like we are watching TV. Their struggles feel real and so, so painful. It's one of the best examples of fiction, I think, to have ever been created, the Clone Wars and this final season. They deserved so much better in their lives, but it's been a privilege and an honor watching them grow.
Both series were literally created by the same person. The plot for Rebels was what The Clone Wars was going to be originally until Lucas came in an provided a bit of direction
“I used to believe that being a good soldier meant doing everything they told you. That’s how they engineered us but we’re not droids, we’re not programmed you have to learn to make your own decisions”
Yes, so right. If you have only seen the Clone Wars a couple times (can't imagine that) then you need to watch the 3 episode run with General Krell. Rex, Jesse, Fives & Tup realize that their survival depends on defying or dismissing loyalty in these deadly situations. Due to Krell purposefully exposing the clones to needless attack because the general is secretly working with Sidious. Krell's true mission is to kill as many soldiers as possible. This is a great representation of where loyalty can & should be questioned & where survival becomes the only option. One of the many reasons why our Captain Rex, is so deeply loved.
Yeah, this is no longer a war. This is just a scene between two people who have been dropped into hell and they need each other because...well, they need each other.
This scene. This scene right here is what emotionally broke me. This scene broke my then 20-year streak of not crying during emotional moments in media and I cried like a bitch. God this scene still hurts four years later.
My heart literally shattered when I saw this. Rex has always been a tough guy loyal and strong, but to see him so broken like this. It really rears you apart. For Rex this is just like Umbara, but in reverse.
Some guy on Reddit actually did it! I don’t know how he’s is called just go to prequelmemes and look for the 4 hour cut you will see the link Completely safe the guy is well known on the subreddit
www.reddit.com/r/PrequelMemes/comments/gdgbfj/my_4_hour_rots_and_cw_cut_is_officially_complete/? Don’t know if it has been deleted yet but i downloaded it
Clones are actually trained to handle insane amounts of stress, its why Rex was so level-headed even in very horrifying moments, this is probably the only time he's been so distraught to the point of literal tears.
The voicing of Rex... the intonation, the ranging... the fear the anger the helplessness all of it is there. When I saw him crying I lost it. Ahsoka on the hand... this scene is perfect to watch, to feel.
After everything Rex has been through, after all the battles he's fought, and all the brothers he has watched die this is the moment that breaks him. Realizing that his own brothers care nothing for their own lives.
12 years later, I started watching the clone wars at the age of 7. I’m now 18 and looking back, this show.. this show was the reason why I fell in love with Star Wars the way I did. It’s so devastatingly sad that the journey and years of my childhood are now coming to end, what a journey it was.
Damn the animation is amazing. You can see the exact moment when Ahsoka senses not only is Rex upset but he’s scared. Scared for them and his brothers. It’s such a beautiful tragic scene.
The emotion in this scene is masterfully done. You can see the moment that Ashoka senses Rex crying and his sadness behind his helmet. She could read it in his body language not just his emotions through her sense in the force. The facial expressions are what make this.
When I saw the tears in his face, I could see the pain he was going through. Felt his pain. 7 seasons of rex and it all came down to this. Granted if you've seen the movies and rebels you know where it all leads, but it hurts to see it unfold. To see all the pain and suffering. Honestly, hands down the best 4 episodes out of all of CW.
That is his Jedi. His best friend. He was willing to kill them for her. And she knew how much it pain him to do it. The series ended with the most underrated thing in this whole show. Their friendship. The bond between a clone and his Jedi. That why Order 66 hits differently this time around. Because chances are they are not the only ones with this type of bond.
Not a bond between Clone and Jedi...no, this is all about a bond between two people who grew up together in war and who managed to come out the other side because they had each other.
This scene just breaks my heart everytime. Everything in this scene is flawless, the voice acting, the soundtrack, the animation is just brilliant. This is why Clone Wars will forever be the best of Star Wars for me. I feel like this is a show that everyone who loves Star Wars must whatch, not a want, must!
Andrei Sologon That’s why I think Ahsoka is so good. She has Anakin’s good heart, but not his lack of self control. She has Obi Wan’s wisdom, without his traditional rigidness. She took the best aspects of the Jedi and Anakin’s approach and it really shows here.
Xeta Because I’m sure there’s more she got from Obi Wan that I’m just missing right now. The creators spent a lot of time developing her character and I don’t want to discredit that just because I haven’t fully analyzed the character.

This scene literally shows that Ahsoka really is the purest force wielder ever.
And one of the best Jedi ever, if she was still one.

I think the Siege of Mandalore arc should have been a TV movie instead of 4 episodes.
This is the CW movie we deserved. Not the one that was only made to promote the show
I wouldn't be surprised if these episodes were released in theaters when it's safe to go back to the movies.
It’s AHSoka, not ASHoka! Why do people always spell it wrong! Also, this was one of, if not the saddest moment in my entire life.
Beautiful comment! 😁
It also means quite a lot for a clone to cry as they are bred to have a very high tolerance for stress. Meaning that if a clone is crying it is because they are in a extreme amount of emotional pain.
It should never be that real men don’t cry. In my opinion, the saying should go real men have the guts to cry

If you watched Five's story arc, you would know that clones are engineered to be resistant to all kinds of stress that the war could throw at them. Rex is not only a clone, but is also a heavily experienced war veteran. The fact that he cries in this scene should convey just how devastated he is.

@@Keen166 The ones flying the ship are all wearing Empire uniforms and look identical, whereas before, many clones had unique tattoos and haircuts.
it's interesting if you think about it, chronologically rex is younger than ahsoka, yet biologically he is older. so in some instances he acts like a big brother to her, and in another (like here, trying to hide his tears) like younger. kinda interesting dynamic
It's the first time in the series I think I really thought about it. He really isn't very old at all and he is fated to die a pretty early death and all he's ever known is war.

Beautiful comment!

We know they're both gonna survive and yet this arc was still one of the most stressful things I have seen in television
This show needs to win an Emmy for this episode and shattered alone
0:58 that music change when she takes his helmet off. Absolutely heartbreaking and powerful
I will never be able to watch that moment for the first time ever again and that makes me sad. God, that was such a powerful, powerful moment.
That slight slouch at 0:48 showing them coming to a realisation about how hopeless the situation is!
This show is so deep!

The first time I saw Rex's tear, I started SOBBING from the tragedy of it all, from his pain.
As a kid, Rex was my hero. He was the embodiment of a man. And to see my hero cry, hurts more than I can explain.
P0k3D0nd3M4cG Clone Wars is just so much better.
@@plartoota4584 Rebels still has plenty of beheadings and disembowelments
@@InfamousAWJ tragedy is what make the characters grow
@@P0k3D0nd3M4cG Nah. Rebels is simply If the clone wars had less money.
This is only time as a Star Wars fan I shed a tear just like Rex.
I love how we can see Ahsoka sense his grief even before she takes off his helmet. Force empathy is an amazing feat.
Don't need the force to know when a friend is in pain.
@@dustinjones7458 yeah, but it makes it that much more intense
Dave filoni loves star wars.
And we as true fans, ought to be grateful for that.
Makes me wonder why doesn’t Filoni just take Kathleen Kennedy’s job.
Poor Rex, everything just came down on him and he couldn't help but feel overwhelmed, even for a Clone who's been through so much pain and loss.
This is the moment Rex became more than a soldier.
Yeah, this is no longer a war. This is just a scene between two people who have been dropped into hell and they need each other because...well, they need each other.
I agree
he always was
when rex cried I wanted to go down there and give him a big hug! also asoka's speech! amazingly done dave fillony! you have truly made a masterpiece
Do we need a live action Rex to appear in the Ahsoka series? yes.....yes we do
Fetts actor has been quoted as saying that he’s down to play any and all clones in live action
Oh skippy do I have some great news for you
You'll be pleased then.
This Star Wars kids show made me cry, yet not a single one of the movies ever did.
You're a good soldier, Rex, so is everyone of those men down there. They may be willing to die, but I am not the one who is going to kill them.
This scene. This scene right here is what emotionally broke me. This scene broke my then 20-year streak of not crying during emotional moments in media and I cried like a bitch. God this scene still hurts four years later.
I want to give them both a hug so bad. They didn't deserve this. None of them did.
This is easily one of the best scenes in Star Wars.
The beauty of innocence and the reality of life.
Rex crying really kicks u in the guts
My heart literally shattered when I saw this. Rex has always been a tough guy loyal and strong, but to see him so broken like this. It really rears you apart. For Rex this is just like Umbara, but in reverse.
Now imagine watching Revenge of the Sith with these episodes added in the movie
OH, I cant.
Defiantly George Lucas needs to

Man, comparing this scene with their first scene together really shows some of the best character development of all time.
This makes me wonder if there were other times that Rex cried but didn't take his helmet off.
Probably a lot...this makes everything worse!
Clones are actually trained to handle insane amounts of stress, its why Rex was so level-headed even in very horrifying moments, this is probably the only time he's been so distraught to the point of literal tears.
I truly love the dynamic these two have. This was one of the most heartbreaking scenes of the series and the writers pulled it off so well.
The voicing of Rex... the intonation, the ranging... the fear the anger the helplessness all of it is there. When I saw him crying I lost it. Ahsoka on the hand... this scene is perfect to watch, to feel.
Seeing Rex cry will make anyone cry. He's the best.
After everything Rex has been through, after all the battles he's fought, and all the brothers he has watched die this is the moment that breaks him. Realizing that his own brothers care nothing for their own lives.
This scene put me in actual physical pain
The voice acting from Captain Rex is just, I dont have words
The trail of the tear remains there for a few more seconds. Amazing attention to detail
Carly Crays Your description hurts way more 😭
She became such an awesome young woman! I am so proud of her :'-)
Coming back to watch this scene, it still hurts
Even though I didn't watch the Clone Wars, this and other moments still hit the feels
This was the scene that broke me. Seeing Rex cry, looking so broken and sad hit differently. And the soundtrack is so heartbreaking.
Meanwhile Obi-Wan and Yoda are slaughtering a lot of clones at the jedi temple
Andrei Sologon That’s why I think Ahsoka is so good. She has Anakin’s good heart, but not his lack of self control. She has Obi Wan’s wisdom, without his traditional rigidness. She took the best aspects of the Jedi and Anakin’s approach and it really shows here.
Xeta Because she can control her impulses and not let it get the better of her, which is something Obi Wan mastered.
Xeta It takes wisdom to know the value of self control. Only then can you truly acknowledge why it’s worth mastering, and improve yourself.
Xeta Because I’m sure there’s more she got from Obi Wan that I’m just missing right now. The creators spent a lot of time developing her character and I don’t want to discredit that just because I haven’t fully analyzed the character.
To be fair at the time, they didn’t know about the chips - and we don’t know if Lucas thought of them at the time.
This scene alone could have won an award
Seeing Rex cry is like seeing the toughest person you know cry, it fucks you up
