- The next set of trials for master photographer, Tim Kelly, was to take his new Godox gear outdoors for a test session. He took his single subject to a walking trail and another location with no photography assets, like fences, steps, or architecture, and created some studio-quality images. Watch Tim find his scene and create the lighting needed, using the available light, and adding his new location gear to produce studio-quality results!

Proof positive that you don't need super expensive equipment to create beautiful images. Thanks Tim.
Thanks for watching, Carleton!
Loved the video. And your style puts the subject at ease. Love how you are refining the light until you get it right. Thanks for posting.
Thank you very much for this series Mr. Kelly. I really enjoyed how you directed the shoot, your assistant and the model. Many great shots but my favourite was 18:56. Nicely done!
Really nice. Simple equipment that even I have! I like how you make a start and refine the situation. Thank you!
That's my simple way ... approaching all my images as a still life. Keep moving things until it comes together.
Awesomesauce! You're amazing. Wish I could pose people like you do so effortlessly. Thanx man!
Thanks!
You are amazingly good! 👍🏻👍🏻
This is such a helpful video Tim. You give lots of reminders throughout as you make little adjustments, and the behind scenes coverage is excellent. I've watched a number of your videos now and enjoy your pleasant manner and the relaxed way you deal with your subjects.
instablaster.
Love it!
Thanks, Ida.
Thank you!
Great shoot Tim. I have a pair of the same Godox 24" soft boxes and I'm very impressed with how well the work. My studio ceiling is only 8' and the flat lets me get the box higher than my octagons.
Yes, super convenient!
Another Great Tutorial from the Master. :).. Keep Up sir. Thank you.
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for another great video Tim!
Would love to see side-by-side photo comparisons from when you make those slight lighting adjustments, just so we can spot those subtle yet crucial differences!
True master at work
Thank you!
thank you,a nice photoshoot
This is a great lesson in how to communicate with the talent. Beautiful girl, and took direction really well.
For the love of god don't ever say "good girl" to a model lol
@@celljudge32 I missed that one! Absolutely agree with you about that lol
You're right - bad habit. But, she's not a model, just a young girl.
Good tutorial. Thank you
Thank you.
Thanks again sir
Your skills are amazing & i learned tons from you.
Thanks for your efforts and teachings.
Loved the B Roll showing the opening of the equipment and readying the camera.
Would love if the introduction talking part is Voice overed the part of the BROLL instead of music, so video length will be abit shorter
Looks like Phillipe Park in Safety Harbor, Fl.
No, it's up our way in Oviedo, I believe. Thanks for watching.
A very nice video well presented the only thing I would say was use sand bags on your stands.
We had them with us. (-:
If you're be yourself, they are mandatory!!
nice
I recently upgraded my flash system. I had Nikon only Sb700. Now I bought 2 godox v1 for key light. 1 Godox tt685 for background and kick light.
With 32" & 24" soft boxes, Bowens mount.
But using all 3 together need man power.
6 ft light stand can't take the weight of 80cm softbox. So right now I'm trying to achieve good shots using umbrella because I don't have assistants to control lightings.
Using Nikon D850 with Godox X2t.
Sounds like you just need some better light stands. Not too bad. With a Godox trigger, you should be able to do it! (-:
Amazing…!!1. at 9:25 I hoped you used some of the amazing bush as a foreground, it would blur out nicely with your talent being sharp and it was almost your height so you did not have to go down to use it, I love your videos
Oh you did that later on….Amazing photos..!!!
Even my gear (lenses, etc.) are suited for studio work. I just do the best I can with what I've got. If I did more outdoor work, I'd have faster and longer lenses, lightweight tripod etc.
Thanks for watching!
@@TimKellysMasterPhotoTechniques No doubt you are a master in your art…!!!
Tim, Thanks for another great example video. Were you able to do the shoot on one set of batteries or did you have to swap out during the shoot?
On the Godox, 200 frames at an average of 1/32 power, the batteries were still full.
@@TimKellysMasterPhotoTechniques Thanks
Great video! I am curious if know what the difference between the Godox V1 round head flash for canon and the Godox V1-C 2.4G TTL HSS Round Head Li-ion Camera Flash Speedlite Fr Canon EOS.
Good question! I have no idea. I just get what works for me and stick to it. Thanks for watching.
I notice you make your key light in manual mode. If we want to use possible maximum aperture and make a shallow depth field, I want to know how you estimate/setup your light power output? I know some advanced light meter can do for HSS. What's your way?
Since I know what I want the light to look like, I make that decision based on one or two tests. Modification is continual ... moving the light closer or further back ... feathering etc.
For me it's alot like cooking ... salt to taste.
Very nice. What setting on the camera, manual , internal light meter? Thanks.
Always MANUAL, ISO 100. 1/250th f/8 normal. Strobes are adjusted to add +1 stop to existing light.
Thank you so much. Good work. Question: Why didn't you shoot at F2.8 or wider for bokeh? ( High speed sync flash).
Whats your outdoor standard kelvin sir?
Of course I shoot RAW, so I can modify later, and I use a colorchecker. So, If I'm working with strobe plus daylight, or daylight plus strobe, it would be 5000k. Natural light only, I'll read the temp to get the look closer - but once again, RAW allows me to reset my center of color balance. Thanks for watching!
Is the Godox V1 powerfull enough for outdoor use ?
I'd say "Yes" in most circumstances. Matching full sun, however, like mid day beach portraits, probably easier with a bigger unit.
Thanks for watching, Johan!
I have the Godox V1, AD 200 and AD 400. I prefer the V1 to my Canon Speedlight, as its batteries run out of power very quickly. The AD 200 is also much more lightweight than the AD 400
Love the video! Hates when he says Good Girl 😟
I try not to do that anymore. (-: That was our first new video for TH-cam.
Nice but I think her hair light would of looked better if you had some CTO gel on it.
She is a beautiful girl
U must be using atleast ad 200 as main light v1 is not that powerful when using light modifiers
Thanks for the comment. You're right - I will get a model with more power and a good modeling light. This works well enough in a pinch. I have 5 or 6 Photogenic Powerlight 1200dr models, so I'm used to all the power I need. Plus a Vagabond batter supply for them.
Communicate with your audience!
Good..! But expecting something new from you Mr.Kelly..all these are so common...nothing new idea you'r sharing.! carry on
Thank you, yes, this is a fairly elementary exercise. I've just chosen to share this "testing of small lighting" experience - and it's good for many, but It won't keep me from more advanced studio work for long! Stay tuned.
Please do show us your ideas and take on photography!
If he hasn't done it before on his channel there's no reason he shouldn't. Just because it's not a new idea doesn't mean that fans of the channel can't benefit from the information right here. If his channel only focuses on advanced setups he'd alienate a whole bunch of viewers. It's great that he shows simple setups every now and then.
Man you instruct too much your staffs!
That's their JOB for many, many years. In the (indoor) studio, I don't have to say very much - they know what I want ... Thanks for watching.
That's the whole point of having assistants!
Great video as always but model is a bit boring, isn't she?
Not a model, just a lovely volunteer met right there at the shoot. She did well. I prefer real subjects (like clients) who aren't professional posers. (just my opinion). Thanks for watching!
