Merrin's feels so...right. She's so sweet and she goes from seeing you as a rare critter to someone she truly loves. As a fellow animal lover myself, she's a wonderful character.

I was gonna buy the game regardless of romance/support options in general, so it makes me happy to know that I don't need to play female Alear and can still listen to Hiro Shimono's voice whilst supporting! >:]
God, the Alfred one is so great, both Wolfhard and Stalh/Mcinnis (depending on your Alear's gender) are really great in it. The whole thing seems an earnestly intimate little moment and the music compliments it perfectly. Also Alfred's like, the only person besides Kagetsu who drops an L-bomb, so him being the main lord kind of makes me feel like it's the "intended" Pact Ring convo in the same way that the main lords in 3H come across as such in their respective routes.
@@menajack I personally consider it that; most FE titles with Avatar Protagonists tend to prioritize S-Supporting the major Lords when possible (Chrom in Awakening, Dima in Azure Moon), and Alfred really is the deuteragonist of Engage, and its main Lord among the royals of Elyos, so it personally stands to reason that his paired ending (alongside the differences between his solo and unpaired ending) seems the most intentional. Obviously it's an opinion, but still, mwah.

I love the idea that Robin is Chrom's wife and Lucina's mother. Gosh, that is so good. As for Engage, I’m still at the beginning of the game, but I noticed that Alfred is especially highlighted compared to the other characters. That pleases me. He is my favorite since he was announced.
I don't know which guy I would give the ring to on my first playthrough. I'm glad these conversations don't change with Alear's gender, so we have a looot more m/m and f/f options compared to earlier games. (Even if some of them are ambiguous.) But yeah having more options also means the decision of who to go for is more difficult. I think I've narrowed it down to Diamant, Mauvier, and Louis.
honestly I like the fact that you can be in a relationship with anyone. Making it a pact ring still keeps the whole feel of the marriage aspect people liked from past games, but it also just is more inclusive for everyone. Plus it doenst even happen until the end of the game anyways, so its nice to have a little reward at the end
Inclusivity is a slippery slope, sometimes the core concept of inclusivity can lead to exclusivity. The trans movement pretty much undermines real biological women and is inherently misogynistic, there are times where things are done in the name of inclusivity only to exclude others who may have a difference of opinion, whether it be from firing someone from there job, or cancel culture in general.
I used the pact ring on Kagetsu because I love the English VA (Khoi Dao my beloved) but also because I just love his character altogether, and when he confessed his love I was just like 😭😭😭😭😭😭 Khoi Dao did a phenomenal job with the voice acting, as well as the MC’s VA too.
I was internally battling for 2 days if I should give the ring to Kagetsu or Diamant, I did end up giving it to Kagetsu, he just did such an amazing job overall with the voice and the S rank wake ups are sooooooo good.
I did the same exact thing with Clanne because my favorite voice actor Justin Briner voiced him and I love Clanne as a character. Also Justin is the reason why I want to be a voice actress too
I am really happy that they have fully flung open the doors and let you give The Pact ring to anybody. That being said something about a lot of these final cutscenes really rubbed me the wrong way. They just feel so formal and impersonal. Everyone constantly calling you divine one just puts up this wall between me and the character. It doesn't feel as genuine

Huh, just comb through the final picture of all the character, looking at where they put on the Pact Ring. Some put on their ring finger, some put in the middle finger and some don't. I'm guessing the middle finger wearers only consider you as a trusted companion and the wedding finger one are true love but this might my overclocked brain going berserk because Saphir was wearing it on her ring finger.
That's actually what they were going for. It's actually censorship, some characters, like Fogado for example, are more explicitly romantic in the JP version, but when it was translated to English, they ally-zoned him and moved the ring to his middle finger. They sucked ass at hiding the romance dialogue though cause why would you be embarrassed to call someone your ally, they shoulda censored that too if they really wanted to hide it💀
I don’t think it has a connection as in the original Japanese every character confesses love (even the kids) so it is more like a stylistic choice for the images themselves.

My favorite one is Pandreo. It is a genuine marriage proposal and they make is as direct and clear that they truly love eachother. Nintendo has really quit beating around the bush with with queer characters. Instead of queer bating us like with past characters (claude for example)

I used the pact ring on Clanne knowing him and Izuku have the same voice actor. Once he confessed to me I turned into a blushing mess, it's like a dream come true.
I like that you can romance everyone, but I feel like a lot of the “romance” line are watered down, like they don’t really seem romantic 🤷🏻♀️. Other than that I like this addition to FE, it’s not my favorite but it’s still pretty good.
Mauvier, Zelkov, Chloe are unironically sweet for me. Most of these are platonic which i understand considering theres a children. Otherwise that one particular site gonna explode and make a drama. Also love how MC got a voice. It adds more to this
Most of them were disappointing to be honest, but I really like Kagestu (so freakin cute), Alfred and Pandreos. Also it's so weird that all these guides say Diamant's is supposed to be romantic and Alcryst's is supposed to be platonic. To me it seems the opposite? Overall the support conversations were just a lot weaker/more meaningless than previous games, I hope they get deeper again in the next one. It almost feels like they know that and dont want us to see them between the other characters 😅, it's weird to me that we cant pair up in combat like we could in all the other ones but I guess maybe that's because of the Engage mechanic? Getting all the supports between the other characters has been really hard (I usuall like to see everything). I really liked all the character designs and Japanese voice acting though, especially the MC.
I’m so glad I did Kagestu’s! I went into expecting all of the supports to be platonic, so it actually made me blush a little when he dropped the L bomb. I like how the “plot” of his support wraps up with us meeting his parents!
as a queer fan of Fire Emblem since it's seventh game. Seeing the franchise fully allow the player to confess to any characters no matter the gender makes my heart melt. I'm so glad that they added this feature.
I was set on Alfred pretty early on in the game, but next playthrough I am absolutely going for Lapis. Her character is so great and she is a killing machine once you build her up.
Did anybody cringe at Rosado's confession? I did. "That deserves a like"? My brain was okay with this until THAT sentence, and just made cringe in disgust and disappointment. How about no? It was going well so far...🤦♂️
Bruh everyone raging in the comments over such a small detail of the game. Never seen people so mad about options before if you like girls have your MC date girls, like dudes date dudes, etc it really does not have to be more complicated than that they are choices for a reason
The only straight forward romance/lover situations in these confessions (Male to male) that are worth the pact ring are with Pandreo, Boucheron, Alfread, Mauvier, and Kagetsu. The others would just say "I want to fight by your side/were twin blades/steward/wanna protect you/thankful for your friendship/geniune ally and blah blah blah whatever..." Not worth giving the pact ring aside from the ones I mentioned.
The English cast did a great job (as always), but I really do feel like these bond ring conversations specifically were handled much better in Japanese. Amber's for instance is made way more romantic in the original dub. I'll do my second playthrough in English so I can more accurately compare the voice acting, but, for now, I'm satisfied with both languages.

I'm mainly talking about the voice acting itself (pauses, differences in intonation and so on). I do recommend checking out the JP dub, though. Japanese is my first language, so I'm not sure how obvious these things are to someone who doesn't speak Japanese, but Amber just sounds way more excited/giddy all throughout. His voice also fluctuates more. Differences that stood out the most to me: - When Alear remarks that he doesn't have a home, in Japanese, Amber stutters when he says that Alear's home is "right here", indicating he's a little nervous or embarrassed (because he's confessing). In English, he states it very matter-of-factly, as if he were referring to the Somniel. There's no hint of embarrassment or nervousness in his voice at all. - When asked what he means by "you do have a place to return to.. It's right here", in English he says "right here, beside me", while in Japanese, he says "IT'S ME. I AM YOUR HOME" lmao. He actually shouts it btw. - Then the whole scabbard/sheathe and sword analogy (hehe) is mostly the same, but in Japanese, he at one point says, "I'll preserve your precious existence/being" - Then, after Alear has offered Amber the ring, in English, Amber says "Yeah! I mean, yes! If that's your condition, count me in!", but in Japanese, he simply says "Yes, of course I accept! I will be a sword by your side (instead of a scabbard)". But again, the voice acting plays a bigger role for me than the actual dialogue. In Japanese, the lines are just delivered in a way that makes them seem way less open to platonic interpretation (even though even in English, Amber's is one of the more obviously romantic ones) Hope you have a nice day!
In awakening, Lucina can marry her cousin. In fates, corrin can marry his cousin. In three houses, byleth can marry the voice in their head or their daughter/mother/grandmother. In engage, YOU CAN MARRY YOUR SISTER.

It depends on the person it's being given to. Obviously they're not gonna have Alear marry children, so for them and a few others it's friendship. But for a good chunk of the cast it's very clearly romantic.
Its both, They're obviously not gona make you actually marry kids, but if you like those characters you still don't feel like they didn't allow you to be with them
You get a general feel with the gendered videos: Female supports: Guys going "OMG CENSORSHIP!! I WANT 11 YEAR OLD ANNA TO SAY THAT SHE'LL BE MY LOVER!!!" Male Supports: "Ew gays, KYS" & "Thank god they finally let us gays have more options than the sassy-fem-boi-twinks."
My thoughts are a bit nuanced, I dislike the censorship but only because of most convos felt platonic instead of romantic, at least let the adult one say love. The "everyone being bi" thing feels like it's one of the reasons why it's more platonic instead which sucks, and while I don't mind people having options it still feels weird that everyone in the army is gay because it doesn't make any sense lol but whatever
I'm kinda surprised that whether you're a male or female protagonist, you can confess both male and female characters so I'm completing the game as a female protagonist
Honestly despite the dialogue lacking the word "love" being said or expressed you can feel it in the way some of the characters react or the things they say being close enough to be take romantically. Biggest examples for me being Yunaka, Ivy, and Timerra. Though im still curious why they dropped S supports across the entire board cause as someone who's played for awhile and even gotten older games the best part has honestly been shipping characters together when it came to pair ups, especially for the massive boost from S supports... heck even seemed like that was going to be a thing in Engage since the A support between some units comes across as down right flirtatious at time. I hate to spoil myself, but its at least puts my nerves to rest that the dialogue well being very platonic can be interpreted as romantic.
Oh so that pact ring is the equivalent of a S rank in the old games? (I've only played awakening and fates to some degree.) But unfortunately alot of this dailogue sounds like you being friend zoned and quite a bit lol. But no lie though that howl at the beginning made me think I was about to get rickrolled or something XD.
There are some characters who don't explicitly say that they're romantically involved with you in the *s-rank* but they do in other sectors of the game, like wake-up calls. Like Mauvier doesn't say anything too explicit in his s-support, but he does in his wake-up chat where he says "You're the only one in my heart"
I hate how censored some of these are compared to the Japanese versions. Like, some are completely understandable (Jean and Anna for instance, as they're literal kids and shouldn't be admitting love to an adult), but then you have ones like Fogado, who outright says I love you in Japan, but it's censored to a forever ally in this. :/

It's hard to believe that their A-support had a lot more impact than their S-support. Just didn't feel like romance. More like a strong bond between two plain ol' comrades.

Huh, just comb through the final picture of all the character, looking at where they put on the Pact Ring. Some put on their ring finger, some put in the middle finger and some don't. I'm guessing the middle finger wearers only consider you as a trusted companion and the wedding finger one are true love but this might my overclocked brain going berserk because Saphir was wearing it on her ring finger.
That's actually what they were going for. It's actually censorship, some characters, like Fogado for example, are more explicitly romantic in the JP version, but when it was translated to English, they ally-zoned him and moved the ring to his middle finger. They sucked ass at hiding the romance dialogue though cause why would you be embarrassed to call someone your ally, they shoulda censored that too if they really wanted to hide it💀
I don’t think it has a connection as in the original Japanese every character confesses love (even the kids) so it is more like a stylistic choice for the images themselves.

My favorite one is Pandreo. It is a genuine marriage proposal and they make is as direct and clear that they truly love eachother. Nintendo has really quit beating around the bush with with queer characters. Instead of queer bating us like with past characters (claude for example)

I like that you can romance everyone, but I feel like a lot of the “romance” line are watered down, like they don’t really seem romantic 🤷🏻♀️. Other than that I like this addition to FE, it’s not my favorite but it’s still pretty good.

Mauvier, Zelkov, Chloe are unironically sweet for me. Most of these are platonic which i understand considering theres a children. Otherwise that one particular site gonna explode and make a drama. Also love how MC got a voice. It adds more to this
Most of them were disappointing to be honest, but I really like Kagestu (so freakin cute), Alfred and Pandreos. Also it's so weird that all these guides say Diamant's is supposed to be romantic and Alcryst's is supposed to be platonic. To me it seems the opposite? Overall the support conversations were just a lot weaker/more meaningless than previous games, I hope they get deeper again in the next one. It almost feels like they know that and dont want us to see them between the other characters 😅, it's weird to me that we cant pair up in combat like we could in all the other ones but I guess maybe that's because of the Engage mechanic? Getting all the supports between the other characters has been really hard (I usuall like to see everything). I really liked all the character designs and Japanese voice acting though, especially the MC.
I’m so glad I did Kagestu’s! I went into expecting all of the supports to be platonic, so it actually made me blush a little when he dropped the L bomb. I like how the “plot” of his support wraps up with us meeting his parents!
as a queer fan of Fire Emblem since it's seventh game. Seeing the franchise fully allow the player to confess to any characters no matter the gender makes my heart melt. I'm so glad that they added this feature.

I was set on Alfred pretty early on in the game, but next playthrough I am absolutely going for Lapis. Her character is so great and she is a killing machine once you build her up.

The only straight forward romance/lover situations in these confessions (Male to male) that are worth the pact ring are with Pandreo, Boucheron, Alfread, Mauvier, and Kagetsu. The others would just say "I want to fight by your side/were twin blades/steward/wanna protect you/thankful for your friendship/geniune ally and blah blah blah whatever..." Not worth giving the pact ring aside from the ones I mentioned.
The English cast did a great job (as always), but I really do feel like these bond ring conversations specifically were handled much better in Japanese. Amber's for instance is made way more romantic in the original dub. I'll do my second playthrough in English so I can more accurately compare the voice acting, but, for now, I'm satisfied with both languages.

@@shonarts5583 No, I don't. The translation, while not completely accurate, still serves its purpose well enough imo. I'm mainly talking about the voice acting itself (pauses, differences in intonation and so on). I do recommend checking out the JP dub, though. Japanese is my first language, so I'm not sure how obvious these things are to someone who doesn't speak Japanese, but Amber just sounds way more excited/giddy all throughout. His voice also fluctuates more.
Differences that stood out the most to me:
- When Alear remarks that he doesn't have a home, in Japanese, Amber stutters when he says that Alear's home is "right here", indicating he's a little nervous or embarrassed (because he's confessing). In English, he states it very matter-of-factly, as if he were referring to the Somniel. There's no hint of embarrassment or nervousness in his voice at all.
- When asked what he means by "you do have a place to return to.. It's right here", in English he says "right here, beside me", while in Japanese, he says "IT'S ME. I AM YOUR HOME" lmao. He actually shouts it btw.
- Then the whole scabbard/sheathe and sword analogy (hehe) is mostly the same, but in Japanese, he at one point says, "I'll preserve your precious existence/being"
- Then, after Alear has offered Amber the ring, in English, Amber says "Yeah! I mean, yes! If that's your condition, count me in!", but in Japanese, he simply says "Yes, of course I accept! I will be a sword by your side (instead of a scabbard)".
But again, the voice acting plays a bigger role for me than the actual dialogue. In Japanese, the lines are just delivered in a way that makes them seem way less open to platonic interpretation (even though even in English, Amber's is one of the more obviously romantic ones)

It depends on the person it's being given to. Obviously they're not gonna have Alear marry children, so for them and a few others it's friendship. But for a good chunk of the cast it's very clearly romantic.

My thoughts are a bit nuanced, I dislike the censorship but only because of most convos felt platonic instead of romantic, at least let the adult one say love. The "everyone being bi" thing feels like it's one of the reasons why it's more platonic instead which sucks, and while I don't mind people having options it still feels weird that everyone in the army is gay because it doesn't make any sense lol but whatever
I'm kinda surprised that whether you're a male or female protagonist, you can confess both male and female characters so I'm completing the game as a female protagonist
Honestly despite the dialogue lacking the word "love" being said or expressed you can feel it in the way some of the characters react or the things they say being close enough to be take romantically. Biggest examples for me being Yunaka, Ivy, and Timerra.
Though im still curious why they dropped S supports across the entire board cause as someone who's played for awhile and even gotten older games the best part has honestly been shipping characters together when it came to pair ups, especially for the massive boost from S supports... heck even seemed like that was going to be a thing in Engage since the A support between some units comes across as down right flirtatious at time.
I hate to spoil myself, but its at least puts my nerves to rest that the dialogue well being very platonic can be interpreted as romantic.

There are some characters who don't explicitly say that they're romantically involved with you in the *s-rank* but they do in other sectors of the game, like wake-up calls. Like Mauvier doesn't say anything too explicit in his s-support, but he does in his wake-up chat where he says "You're the only one in my heart"

It's hard to believe that their A-support had a lot more impact than their S-support. Just didn't feel like romance. More like a strong bond between two plain ol' comrades.
