    I was trained to fly in a Cessna 150 in early 70’s……… In calm air and trimmed out……..you could make it climb or descent by leaning forward or leaning back…….Great trainer

      Hey thanks!!! I'm a CFI with about 970 hours--but I am a firm believer that hours and being a good pilot don't always correlate. I try my best to make them count, and I'm really blessed to be able to draw on the experience I have had so far.

      @@amywhite375 I am about to start flight training and building a H5 from plans. I am debating getting a 150 as well so my wife can eventually ride with me. I love your 150's paint scheme the white red and gold is my favorite for a 150. I used to use songs like you have here and later they came and claimed the rights to my videos just a FYI. Nice trip in a neat little plane.

    Love it. Just watched the first in the series and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great cross wind landing. Lovely scenery. I like the altimeter that shows 5,500 at the end of the runway. Where I live you can fly at 50' and not hit anything other than a low flying fighter (if you're unlucky). You have a lovely balanced style for your videos - great flying and great music.

    Long ago when I flew around Lexington I was also in a Cessna 159. In and out of Lex, LaGrande, Hermiston, Pendleton. Lex has no facilities and you had to make arrangements ahead of time if you wanted gas. I had a key card and never saw anybody at the airstrip. I had a great time and am enjoying your video

    Nice marathon trip you made, Amy! Great video editing. My first plane was a '77 C-152, which I really enjoyed! I got my instrument rating in it, and put it on leaseback for a while, but when the engine timed out, I sold it to a guy who had a new engine to put in it. You more or less wear a C-152 - very cozy! My next plane, which I still have, is a 2004 A1-B Husky - an awesome plane! I now have about 1100 hours in it - when I bought it, I only had about 10 hours of tailwheel time! My girlfriend (now wife) and I have flown it from NC to about 1/3 of the states (including coast to coast and to AK and back). It is a tricky plane to learn to fly well - which that pilot in your video at Driggs apparently discovered the hard way!
    It is really fantastic to have the freedom to fly all over this beautiful country in which we live!

    • @amywhite375

      No classes per se. Just a solid understanding of what mountains and terrain do to the wind and air, then trying to avoid any nasty situations. I flew a 172 with a friend in WA earlier in the year who talked in detail about where to fly and where not to fly when dealing with wind coming across ridges. Luckily my weather was good aside from headwinds.

    3:56: Nice landing on the grass runway at KDIJ due to the paved runway was occupied by an incident.
    Clearly it is specifically designated as a grass runway; your video shows the marker cones. I don't see that runway is listed in official publications, though. (I've been to airports where this is the case. There's a parallel grass that's landscaped as such but not on official publications).
    But how did you know about it? Did you just see the cone markers? Or did you call on the radio and they pointed you to the grass runway as an alternative?

    • @amywhite375
      @amywhite375  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There was a Cessna 182 (you can see him taxiing by the husky on that first shot) that announced taking off on the grass, and that's when I saw the cones. I was on my way to divert but I LOVE GRASS RUNWAYS so when I saw it I was like, "aw heck yeah."

    In 2 weeks I'll be flying a Tomahawk from FL to CA but I do not have your filming/editing skills. So maybe few little clips I'll be posting. What I record in my brain will be staying with me for the rest of my life.
    How did you prepared your route across the states? How did you know where to stop and find fuel or food or hotel? Was it all planned or just land and find out was all along your plan?

    • @amywhite375
      @amywhite375  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've flown many long distance cross countries. I can plan all I want, (and I do) but 90% of the time, the plan has always changed once I got going. (Usually weather reasons.) So, don't stress it. Fuel is denoted by the tick-marks around an airport on the sectional. Some airports have avgas but no Jet-A and are depicted without tickmarks. A quick glance at the AF/D will tell you. When I end up picking my airports on the fly, there is a system. I usually have a couple of airports picked out as the "end-of-day" goal that are in reasonable distance to reach by end of day and have appropriate facilities. (Hotel/A&P Mechanic on field, etc) I pick my way there one stop at a time. At EVERY STOP, (normally while I'm emptying my bladder) I CHECK THE WEATHER, pick or reconfirm my next airport choice, check its METAR, TAF, AF/D, remarks, comments & notams physical layout, distance, the calculate fuel reserves, and off I go. Takes 5 minutes on Foreflight.

    Amy, I am truly impressed! I have so many questions for you, that I possibly could not ask them all at once! First off, the plane. I have flown many 150/152's including Aerobat's, and none of them had both the wing landing light, and the nose cowl light. which model is yours? I find your 150, to be one of the prettiest ever, and I love the panel! I learned to fly 32 years ago, and would be right at home in your bird. Is it IFR certified? Did I see a KX-170B, and a KX-155, with a KMA audio panel with markers, as well as Glideslope/localizer? And, is there an ADF hiding behind your tablet? That is truly a fine "Commuter".

    • @amywhite375
      @amywhite375  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Howdy!! Thank you for the kind words. It is IFR certified, with the KX155 paired with the KI209 and the KX170b paired with the KI208. Correct on the KMA 24 audio panel. It works great. No ADF, thank goodness. The ammeter is back there. I lean over to take a peek at it every 10 minutes (unless I'm flying it from the right seat, which is pretty often.) I JUST installed the Stratus ESGi ADS-B Out, so it's looking pretty spiffy right now. Finally, the light mystery--nice catch on that!! It's SUPER bright and I love it. What happened was some hail damage in 1981 that prompted swapping the wings for that of an older model--and tada. I have all Whelen LEDs for landing lights. Draws almost no amps, and it's SO BRIGHT! I get remarks all the time and it never gets old. I love it. :D

      @@amywhite375 Yeah, LED landing lights are really nice and super-handy. I have one in the nose of my Mooney.

      8,000 hours of 150 time. A bot deaf, but a great aircraft. Thanks for the fun. CFI A/i

      Thanks! I was a wee rusty. I'm a commercial instrument pilot, plus CFI. Sitting at around 970 hours after this trip.

    That sure looked like the Tetons and Jackson Hole at around the three minute mark. Anyone know if that was indeed the case?

      It was.

      Amy White That’s awesome! I remember flying into Jackson Hole as a teenager, my first time east of the Mississippi, and stepping onto the tarmac that relatively little airport just amazed at how big those mountains seemed, and so close. It must have been beautiful flying over them in your Cessna.
      Thank for the comment too!
