    What's the best crab lure for sheepshead?
    Last winter I was on a mission to find that out and now that sheepshead season is just around the corner, the mission is back on!
    I reviewed the Chasebaits Crusty Crab and Savage Gear Crab lures last year, but one lure that kept getting brought up in the TH-cam comments was the Cranka Crab.
    So in anticipation of sheepshead season, I've picked one of them up to check it out.
    Although I haven't put it to the test on the water yet, I've got some hunches about how it will perform and I'm sharing them in this video.
    You'll learn:
    - How the price of the Cranka Crab compares to other crab lures
    - The biggest potential downfall of this lure
    - What the top pros and cons of it are
    - And more
    Have you used this lure?
    What did you think?
    Let me know down in the comments!

    I’ve used all three of these crab patterns in Australia for over 12 months. Cranka out-fishes the others by miles.

    Echo anyone here who has used them in Australia. Bream are very similar to sheepshead IE love structure etc these crankas outfish other crab immitations heavily, largely due to the action of the floating claws. Particularly when the fish are picking at the claws. Just cast tight to features and gently work or leave it static. They seem to target bigger bream too. All the comp guys are fishing these heavily here

    most ABT tournaments in Australia are won on the cranka crab. Fact. They work very very well .

    This lure absolutely slays fish, there are plenty of how to use videos of anglers in Australia (where the lure is from) catching bream, very similar to sheep’s head. If you learn to use it, they work really well, & because the trebles float upside down they’re actually pretty snag resistant.. as far as the price goes, they’re no more expensive than any Japan made lure.

    Luke, what would you think about possibly doing a treble hook for circle hook switchout on one of these? Like you would with a topwater/twitch lure? Are the claws able to come off the treble hooks and switch over to a single hook?

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Circle hooks are generally not good for lures. When replacing treble hooks, I go with single inline replacement j-hooks. I do not think it's possible to change out the trebles on the cranka crab because the claws are attached to them and don't appear to be transferable.

    • @Saltstrong

      These crab lures typically require some nice inshore rods given that casting accuracy is very important when fishing tight to structure. Here's a video where we explain the details while fishing for sheepshead with crab lures: www.saltstrong.com/articles/catch-sheepshead-artificial-lures/

      ive been using them for a couple of yrs now and one thing not mentioned is you can replace the claws and legs for alot less than the cost of a new crab, if i have to buy a new cranka crab i usually buy a couple packs of different colour claws

    Since asking for this review last year, I have experienced another issue with these crabs. If you apply Pro Cure to the bottom of these, the smaller legs on the side will slide out of the body easily. SO, DO NOT APPLY PRO CURE TO THE BOTTOM OF THESE LURES.

    • @georgefisher1719

      There a chamber in front 2 holes inside were the scent goes ,so pro cure must be very strong with chemicals maybe ...

      We agree... just wanted to do this one now since many people have asked about this crab lure. Also, I didn't want to buy more than 1 so wanted to go ahead and get it on film in case I loose it to some submerged structure my first time using it (very likely given the 2 treble hooks).

  • @dharvey7124
    @dharvey7124 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The claws are replaceable. And they do snag slot. But sheepshead attack them and the trebles hook them. But again, the trebles snag easy.

  • @saltysnooker9693

    This isn’t a lure you fish on the bottom, this is a lure that you suspend along the pilings, the suspended fish come and pick it off 🙌👍
