In 1965 my grandmother introduced me to catching sheep head on a cane pole with Barber I became the only sheep headmaster using cane pole and Barbara throughout the years
Ah the Lifetime Kayak! That thing is worth it's weight in gold. I have an expensive one no where near as sturdy as that thing was tossing a fly around. The only issues I ran into were high winds, broken handles, and you have to watch the plastic on the bottom. It gets thin. Great fishing!
I have seen quite a few kayakers use slip floats for sheepshead. You can get them in different sizes so you could use like a 1/4 oz split shot if you wanted more weight. AWESOME job on the BIG reds keeping them away from structure. CONGRATS on a really fine time fishing.
Awesome video. I would have quit after that first red being so happy. That’s pretty sweet to get that 2nd one right after. Good job! Got me motivated!!!
You are a master at keeping hooked fish out of pilings/structure! I wonder if the guy that owns that dock and Whaler knows how good the fishing is right out his back door off his dock. Great video.
Thank you! I've actually spoken to the owners on a few occasions while out there and they're quite aware of the honey hole their dock sits on! Thanks for watching
A real pleasure to watch your videos. Thanks for introducing me to a new technique. You come across as someone anyone would enjoy being around. Best wishes and a Merry Christmas to you and yours .
Thank you very much Keith, I really appreciate you watching and for your kind words! I hope you enjoy the new technique and that you continue to enjoy the videos! Have a great holiday season!
Your structure work on that class red is awesome! I’m 0 for 8 against bull reds in close to docks, it’s really tough sledding so I can appreciate your finesse bro. Great upload hope to see more PBs too!
Gere a crazy idea. Cheap slip float? Bobber stop a clasp swivel. Blow up partially a ballon. Tue it to the clasp. 100 ballons 99 cents. Its a really unique float when it gets hit.
That's a strike indicator for fly fishing that's why it doesn't support any weight. This is an absolutely awesome idea especially if you could dial it in a little better.
All I keep thinking when I see you battling those huge suckers pulling you in and around those docks/pilings is “get a micro power pole”…lol lol lol..Makes me nervous too lol lol
Yea man a few weeks ago I hooked in to what I thought was a massive black drum around a bridge pillar. When you hook in to a heavy fish you know it a decent size! He broke me off twice running under the bridge pillar..
That's brutal, I've had that happen to me more than a few times. You lift up and it's just dead weight then they start running and there's no slowing them down.
Was watching a video of guys fishing up north and wasting an entire fiddler or mud crab per Sheepshead. I liked your “Oyster in a baggy” technique better. Cheaper, reusable and easy to load up here in GA/north Florida.
@@MakeTimeForFishing I have ones that clip on the line so no stopper needed but I guess casting would get unwieldy if you had it set too deep, by the way those were two different reds IMO
I don't catch my own blue crabs no I usually get them live at a seafood market and use them same day and freeze the less. Or I buy them already frozen at the bait shop
Always great content. Well done and nice drum! Started following you because of the Tamarack kayak. :-) That's my fishing vessel too! You mentioned your cooler (and before as well). What size do you have? I'm guessing it fits within the milk crate?
Thank you! Yes it fits perfectly in my milk crate with enough room for a tackle tray as well. It's a Coleman 30 can soft cooler. Here's the link to the exact one if you're curious about the dimensions: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006HFBF7E?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image
@@MakeTimeForFishing Thanks! I keep a Coleman 16 can between my crate and seat. It's great for my waters, soft plastics, and snacks. Not so much for fish unless it's some freshwater crappie, bass, or sunfish though. Going to definitely invest in an upgrade and will use the link here when I do. Thanks again!
@@MakeTimeForFishing hope your vacation is going well. Just wanted to say I did order that cooler and it held my first ever redfish just fine. 21”. Pretty sure it can hold a full 27” red. 😁
@@MakeTimeForFishing video was okay, mostly hands and line and pole like most other anglers do on video. The 10 seconds where I got to c you (in the several videos I viewed) you NEVER CHANGE what ur wearing ! LOL
Do you still use or recommend the bellaire jigs for sheepshead? I usually use bottom sweepers but man are they expensive. Are the sheep sticker jigs a good alternative?
Oh yeah I definitely still use them! I get the same results as with jigs like the bottom sweeper but they're much much cheaper. Used them a bunch in my recent videos!
I actually got them from a Walmart in Colorado. Not sure of the name brand as they're just a generic foam peg bobber but they're meant for freshwater trout fishing If that helps. Really just match the weight you use to the bobber so it barely floats with the rig.
@@MakeTimeForFishing Thanks for the info. I checked and the cheapie generic ones from Haddrells with the slit have bored out pegs. They will work! Trying to make it easier to get my 7 yo on a sheepshead! Hope to see you out there. We live nearby these spots. Keep up the great work!
I think the name Black Drum is a turnoff from keeping them . I have eaten several Saltwater Species. The Black Drum was way better tasting than Red Snapper certainly better than Trout and Redfish . The only 1 i ever caught was the size of the 1st you caught . all it needed was butter . no salt, butter has plenty of salt for most fish. some green onion and a little mayonause mixed with sour creme . and of course a little lemon juice.
That sounded like your Bale wasn`t locked down and it let line out . Not the same Fish the black dot marking on first Fish is looking down the second Fish his marking is pointed back . Enjoyed it as always .
Great job landing those big Reds on such light tackle! I enjoyed the video!
Thank you!
How did he do that Is more like it . Under all that crap in the water .? Holy Moses.
I've fished that same kayak for a few years and I have to say, your Kayak/Dock management is unrivaled! I am impressed every time.
Thank you! Think I'll put it on my resumé

Phenomenal fish fighting and boat handling! Take good care of those big breeders after boating them- we need to keep them in the gene pool!

I use this rig with weighted floater in the Texas coast to catch sheephead and others on the jetties
Wow, is right!!!
Great video!
Thanks Richard! Glad you liked it!
No way you should’ve boated either one of those fish! Fantastic job! My hats off to you. Sub’ed.
Thats how i have been fishing for em for years for sheeps head so i could float rocks and oysterbeds in the current

BTW......awesome reds and black drum.
Blue crab did it again!! Nice work!
It's getting harder to use it now that the bait thieves are showing up but it can still produce!
Where do u get ur crabs
I get blue crabs at seafood places usually Marvin's in North Charleston
What?! How in the world did you not break off! Nice fish, congratulations!
The fish just cooperated nicely on this trip I got lucky!

niiiiiiiiiccccccccceeeeeeeeee fish and fights!

Such a good video I subscribed !!
Maybe don't use an ultra light setup for red fishing lol but you did handle them like a pro, good job
Good Shit
That black drum had a chuck bit out of his dorsal fin, eh?
Is the power knob worth it
I sure think so! Only $15 or $20 and it's much more comfortable to reel with in my opinion
What bait do you use? Loved the video btw man, keep up the good vids!
Thanks! I use either mud crabs or fiddler crabs depending on whether I have time to catch my own (mud crabs) or I have to buy them (fiddlers).
That’s the biggest black drum I’ve seen around here
Just moved here about 6 months ago. Been bass fishing on the Ashley by HHJ in my yak. If you want to meat up and fish let me know.

Where do you picking a small crab for bait
Black drum world record was caught in Delaware. 131lbs. Come up for a visit when the season is in full swing.
