Gold spoons are great baits to use in the winter.
They imitate baitfish and shrimp, you can fish them slow and close to the bottom where fish are feeding, and most of them are weedless so you can fish them tight to structure.
And best of all, fish love them!
In fact, I recently caught a slam while anchored up in one spot using a gold spoon.
In this video, I'm going to show you the best way to fish gold spoons in the winter so you can catch slams with them, too.
Have any questions about using gold spoons when the water is cold?
Let me know down in the comments!

I have Aqua Dream Spoons both 1/4 and 1/2 ounce sizes. Never got a chance to fish them. The Z-Man soft plastics have been awesome. Now I'm use the Redfish toad on a Chinlock hook. It has delivered when nothing else would.

Just ordered some spoons! Can’t wait to try them. PS do you use a swivel to minimize twist in the braid?

Some spoons you can use crane swivels, but it depends. Test the spoon, if it just wobbles and only half rotates, then you don't really need one. But, if they rotate fully, then you really should have one.
      Hope this helps.

One cool thing you can do with spoons is you can buy fishing lure tape or stickers and put them on the spoon. Kind of like the stuff you find on King Mackerel spoons. There are tons of cool reflective lure sticker patterns you can buy. You may have to cut some of the stickers to ideal size but even if it's not perfect it still looks great.

How to rig them + do you tie directly to main braided line or tie to mono leader?
(I’m not using swivels or snaps anymore)

Went down to SW Florida from Maryland last winter. Kayak fished 16 days and got 6 slams , snook every single day primarily using gold spoons

Last year, I spent 8 days fishing for redfish in South Texas. We had five experienced anglers and two boats. I used silver spoons about 85% of the time and the other four guys used gold spoons. Although we all caught untold numbers of trout, redfish, snook and even pompano, the silver spoons caught larger fish, consistently. So much so, the other guys bought handful of the silver spoons I was using for their Tackle bag. I know gold is the traditional favorite, but a large silver spoon such as a Nichol's 6.5" flutter spoon looks just like a large mullet bolting through the water.

I dont use a spoon much but may start throwing it again. Do you use a swivel with your spoon? I've heard line twist can be a problem.
Thanks Tony. Great vid and info as always.

@Salt Strong, what oz spoon do you recommend for fishing shallow water (5-8) inches for redfish for getting a far cast, and not having the weight affect the retrieve?

Try the pink on the flats or in stained water. The pink aqua dream is my secret weapon.

@@lnomolas3427 I find pinks to be more productive for me than chartreuse. I like pink in slightly stained waters of on the edge of flats. I killed some trout today with it.
