    I use pan to make it clear that I like androgenous appearances as much as I like very masculine and very femanine appearances. I don't do it to redefine bi and I am comfortable with people calling me bi. I don't care what people call me, I just use what I use for clarification because I feel that it helps others understand that I just am attracted to what I'm attracted to and it doesn't seem to be in any way affected by how masculine or feminine someone appears. I think this term came about for a similar reason. It's there mainly to make it easier to explain it to people who think bi means I like femanine girls and masculine men when, in reality, there is no preset preference and I am very attracted to androgeny as well. So for me it means, I'm bisexual and I am visually attracted to the spectrum of appearances between masculine man and femanine woman.

      I think pansexual is the better description. Beyond masculine, feminine and androgynous appearances on traditional and opposing genders, the attraction could be any age group, any race, any personality. It’s vast and can shift from moment to moment. I can go through my day bouncing from attraction to attraction.

      Its all from blindness. People only see what outside. Most of the problem is from livitious in the bible as well. But it also says that if a woman sits anywhere on her menstrual cycle she's unclean and she should get a sheep and cut its neck and pour the blood on the priest robe. Lol so I would say the church has failed badly by not doing that. It also says to Sacrfice a child in order to be close to god😂 and also it says masturbation on the ground is unclean. All these things are not literal and what gives them the right to pick and choose ? Good luck to you💟

    As a struggling to-be-recognised-pansexual who has close a relationship with God, I really admire this! I'm glad she touched on the gender binary!! It wasn't all "hearts not parts" bull. Love this.

      can I ask you a question?? how can you be pansexual and still have close relationship to God? I've been struggling with this a long time (I'm also pansexual) and it made me kind of distance from God rather than what you are experiencing..I would love to take some advice for that, cause I don't actually like to be in that sort of dilemma..it is very difficult..by the way I was raised by the seventh day adventists church..

    • @BarbieTano
      @BarbieTano 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +mrsliahen94 well I was raised by Roman Catholic parents and I've had periods of doubt and questioning. But when I pray I feel safe and God has been good to me so I think I'm more faithful to God than any specific religion but I go by catholic. That's just me, it's a personal journey for everyone. However we worship that other power in any religion or way is valid and you are loved even if for now you choose not to, it's your decision 💖

    I like the video and understand the gender binary issue with the term bisexual. However I also feel this video makes the assumption that people who identify as bi don't believe in gender fluidity and loving all genders, which isn't nessisarily true. A lot of bisexual people (most) fit her pansexual discription and so I think to segregate the communities based on a term is splitting an already small and marginalized group of people.

    • @leftgrrl
      @leftgrrl 8 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Yeah. Given this way of defining pan involves redefining bisexuality and creates a replacement label for most bi people, on the grounds of a few bi people who don't want to date someone trans / genderqueer / etc ... surely for balance there need to be new labels to break down homo and hetero identities between the inclusive and the uptight. It's like bi is the least economically, sociologically, socially powerful of the "Big Three" so picked out as the easy one to be taken down.

    • @abbiesweeney7298
      @abbiesweeney7298 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Emmalyn Lindsey exactly, the reason why I identify as bisexual instead of pansexual is because pansexuality=bisexuality+gender blindness ie not really noticing/caring about the gender of a potential partner (its difficult to describe) in most cases, which I don't have. I would still be open to a relationship with someone who identifies outside of the gender binary :)

    • @arxmechanica

      Preach! I find this approach which imposes an externally defined definition of bi passively dismisses bisexuality as transphobic or, as you said, not believing in gender fluidity and loving all genders. Ironic given the purpose and context of her talk.

    • @-belue-6697
      @-belue-6697 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Emmalyn Lindsey...All she said was that Bi is loving only male or female genders...
      Panromantic (yes, I'm more interested in the romance first and the term is used 😊...I'm Panromantic)...Is finding more than male or female attractive...She just said that Bi doesn't fit her and Panromantic/Pansexual does because she can be attracted to more than the standard male or female. I don't feel she was dogging on being Bi at all...In fact, in my thinking...Bi and Panromantic are all in the same community...Each just have a different attraction...Nothing wrong with that. 😎

    This is literally the story of my life, except I didn't tell people I liked girls when I was young because I didn't know that was really a thing, when I came out at age 11 it was only to select people because I wanted to be sure my fragile self esteem wasn't hurt from people not accepting me. Thankfully, my sexuality wasn't once not accepted by anyone (at least so far)

    I can so relate to what she is saying.! My childhood was a mess because I loved boys and girls. Even as an adult i couldn't undestand way my gauge wouldn't sat in the male area of my compass. I recently learned the term "Pansexuality" and had an "Aha Moment"!
    That term truly encompasses how I feel about myself. I'm doing all I can to try and learn as much as I can about it so that I can efficiently articulate its viability to others. Thank you Jesse for contnuing that journey for me ;)

  • @kimwelch4652

    Functionally, I'm Pan, but politically I describe myself as Bi, because there's no 'P' in LGBTQ--and it already has too many letters. However, the video brings up a slightly different concept which is Panagape rather than Paneros. Who you are attracted to is important to you, but how you treat other people, whether you're attracted to them or not, is more important to society, the world, and your soul. Not everybody is Pansexual, but everybody should be Panagape.

    This is the problem with fake people. They portray themselves as "pro-life" but don't let one live if they are LGBTQIA+ or doesn't fit their expectations. These are the people in constant dilemma and with least understanding (or they don't want to understand) of the world. Love is love. And that's the only thing that can save humanity

    I wasn't born pansexual, I mean, how can I be born something that only exists in society? Gender is something created by us, an idea that has meaning only among us... What is a woman? How a woman looks? Women are not born with makeup, high-heels, long hair and jewelry... Do you think an ''heterosexual'' man is born feeling atracted to long hair? Common... Men are not born with a certain hair style, liking heroes and being closed to people... and it's funny that when a male, who was born an blank paper, decides to have long hair and wear jewelry he is called transvestite or cross-dresser, when these words were invented by us such as these objects and the idea that this is woman stuff... During my childhood I saw a lot of men wearing high heels on mangas or on the internet, I grew up seeing man on lingerie, women with short hair, tranvestites, watching gay animations, romances, reading fanfics... The funny thing is that I watched gay romances and didn't even knew the meaning of gay... It was just ordinary romance for me. I didn't examined this close, it was there, right? So it was natural, I thought. So by the time I was a teenager all genders were ok, if you have short hair, an penis ,an vagina, both, muscles, freckles, long hair, if you are black, asian, white, yellow, or decide to have an vagina or a penis or use makeup (or not) it doesn't matter... I am not saying I don't have my preferences, I do, I just won't let such small details be a barrier for me in my sexual or love life... I think everyone is born with the potencial to be anything, just like an artist is born with the potencial to paint, a person is born with the potencial to love and feel attracted to anyone. If I had not been raised the way I did, I would problaby be heterosexual, or at least bisexual, only liking binary people, but seeing all these things that I did, and learning to love each one of them there is no way I could be different.
