Cute Christmas topper! Waylon Jennings is one real man. I could listen to him talk or sing all day. Underrated guitarist, too. Waylon feels like he might be dangerous.
Waylon and Willie, along with others, were called Outlaws for not doing country music the way Nashville did it.They were first called Outlaws bt Chet Flippo of Rolling Stone magazine and he got the term from Hazel Smith the secretary at Hillbilly Central,Tompall Glazers recording studio
I agree with you almost 100% of the time. There are 3 songs Waylon did I like another version better. Jamey Johnson Mental Revenge,Mickey Newbury Mobile Blue, and Whitey Morgan Just To Satisfy You.This one depends on who I last heard it by.Waylon is my favorite artist ever
Canadian blues icon Matt Minglewood did a great cover of this song as well, plus he tells a little "story" leading into it, explaining why he's catching the freight train. Check out his live performance from 2018.
If the world had the open mind and willingness to research the background and history of life that you have in your musical journey here on your channel, what a wonderful world we could have. Blessings to you and yours
Travis Tritt also covered this Marshal Tucker song. Travis can flat make you stomp your feet. Travis and Marty Stewart covers this song in Knoxville Tennessee. Man it is so good. Travis is not the original artist but he is by far the best artist to do this iconic song
Yes, Marshall Tucker Band did this first and I think their version is better, but Waylon does a good version of it. As for him being an outlaw, that just refers to him wanting his music to sound the way he wants it to, and him NOT letting some producer making it sound different. There was, and still is, the "Nashville sound", where record labels and producers have control of the music, where they would add in a lot of sounds to artists' music to match what they, the labels/producers, want it to sound like. They might bring in a full orchestra to play on one song if they thought it was needed, there are a LOT of country songs from the 60s and 70's like that, very over-produced. Waylon and a few others knew they didn't want their music to sound like that, so they rebelled against the established way of doing things and produced their own records the way they wanted them, and the establishment called outlaws.
