Nice gameplay MK. Watched all parts and liked it. Game looks great. It looks shorter compared to Dead Island 1. Dead Island 1 had a huge story and gameplay time.
Yeah this game is a few hours but when I first played dead island 1 it took me 5 days to complete with side quests and after that it took me 3 days to complete it with side quests and the first one was way creepier than this one

This game has beautiful environments but the story was rushed hard especially the ending here.
I've followed the development cycle of this game. All of the different dev studios that touched it and the complete developmental restart from scratch. The change of hands certainly shows in the final product.
I hope those that buy this game do enjoy it but I have to say that i'm somewhat disappointed. Shouldn't be though; A lot of modern games feel rushed in one way or another.
Or the "ending" was a holdover for the DLC that will contain the "true ending".
Yeah,
THe ending is practically a non ending, the cycle of "move, new hideout, new people, new quest, move, repeat" seems pretty repetativve and mostly looks like game extension.
I know this game was in Devhell for conciderable time and og studio behind the series moved to their own project, but still

wait so the final boss is the doctor...the cure is tisha but are either gone or dead and the SHOULD HAVE BEEEN final bosses the 3 Numens are out there left to fight either for dead island 3 or for a dlc? and potentially the world to be saved? so....its just a zombie killing game without an end plot and just going over and over killing zombies with your powers trying new stuff and that....ok i think dead island 1 better by far also dying light 2 better by far

I think its because the immunity doesnt last forever. like reed said the autophage is like a human timer. sam has been immune for like, his whole life, and i guess the timers up (plus he didnt "awaken" like ryan did)

Definitely sounded like a different strain of zombification to me.
It's generally bad storytelling to introduce immunity that has qualifiers - because it causes the viewer to ponder questions like this and makes the writing seem inconsistent. Since medically it doesn't make much sense, you need something consistent to glue things together and pick up that slack.

Why can't games ever end satisfyingly anymore? Same with Atomic Heart, both flaccid chodes for endings with nary a resolution. Both soured me on the sequels we'll likely never get before they've even been greenlit. Good fucking riddance.

I get dead island never had top tier writing but really?? every type of zombie media has done the government bad trope
It's actually not that simple; The virus is most likely a variant of Pathogen HK from the previous game, which was a naturally born virus that was accidentally enhanced by the military. In the ending of Dead Island Riptide, it's heavily implied that the virus was able to make it's way west through the survivors from the original game unknowingly being infected while inside a boat. (This is even directly shown through some of the zombie types in Dead Island 2 being the exact same as the ones in the original Dead Island with some new additions: It's the same virus, different location.) Also, this has kind of been Dead Island's shtick since the first game: It's kind of meant to poke fun at zombie apocalypse stories while still being somewhat unique. (Moreso Dead Island 2.) This isn't exactly a Resident Evil 5 situation.
